Death of Elder Jared Kenyon

Preacher of the Seventh Day Baptist Denomination for Many Years

Elder Jared Kenyon, who for many years has been a resident of Independence died at his home there Saturday night after an illness of ten days, with pneumonia.

Deceased would have been eighty nine years old March 30th, had he lived.  He came to Independence in 1885 and was a preacher for the Seventh Day Baptist denomination for twenty five years.  Twenty eight years ago he was compelled to give up preaching on account of old age.  His wife died twenty six years ago and since that time he has been living alone, with the exception of two years from 1904 to 1906 and during his late illness.

Rev. Kenyon possessed a very strong constitution and his friends were legion throughout the section.  He was known as one of the oldest Seventh Day Baptist preachers living in the country.

Deceased is survived by a brother, Daniel Kenyon of Minot, Ill., and a nephew. Geo. Kenyon of Shingle House Pa.  One son died while in the army.

The funeral was held this morning at eleven o’clock at the late home in Independence and interment was had in Independence Cemetery. Rev. A. G. Crofoot, of Independence officiated.
