OBITUARY (From Wellsville Daily Reporter)

 ALLENTOWN – Wilson F. “Bill” Layfield, 70, of Drum Road died Sunday Nov. 13. 2005) in Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville shortly after

admission.

 He was born Oct. 26, 1935, in Rixford. Pa., the son of Alpha and Dorothy (Fosmen) Layfield.

 He had resided in the Allentown area since 1954.    

 On Dec. 24, 1956, in Wellsville, he was married to Betty J. Yaw, who survives him.  He was a graduate of Wellsville High School and served in the U.S. Army ftom 1956 to 1958.        

 Since 1973 he had operated Bill’s Used Car Sales in Allentown and for several years was co-owner with his brother-in-law, Keith Hanchett in operating their own auto body shop.

 He was a member of the Scio Church of Christ.

 As an avid stock car driver he had raced for 52 consecutive years, and had won 25 track championships along with hundreds of other wins.

 Surviving besides his wife,  Betty J., are sons., Joe A. (Kimberly) Layfield of Bolivar, John P. (Christine) Layfield of Allentown, and Glen D. (July) Layfield of Scio; 13 grandchildren,  a brother, Herbert (Imo Jean) Layfield of Allentown; sisters, Harriett Dawn Vaughn of Birmingham, Ala.; and Audrey Hanchett of Allentown; several nieces and nephews.

 He was predeceased by a grandson, Garrett Dean Morris; a granddaughter,  Melissa Jean Layfield Morris and brothers, Gerald, Robert, Conrad, William R., H. Dean, and Raymond D. Layfield.

 Friends may call at the Mulholland-Crowell Funeral Horne in Wellsville on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.  Services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in the Scio Church of Christ, Glen Layfield, his son and pastor of the church will officiate. Burial with full military honors, will follow in the Maple Lawn Cemetery in Bolivar. Memorials may be made to the Melissa Morris Nursing Scholarship fund at Scio Central School.
