Marion McCarthy Lucas

 

Marion Lucas, Mother, Wife and Home Maker at 190 Early Street Wellsville NY was taken to a better place by her savior on February 25, (2007) from Highland Health Care Center, where she has been a resident since June 2002 due to Multiple Sclerosis. She was born April 23, 1923 in Olean, the daughter of Hazel (Brown) and James McCarthy. She married Preston “Roy” Lucas March 30 1956

Marion shared many fond memories of the German Town School, the Haskell Flats Church, Cuba High School, 4H as a member and leader, and as a Houghton College student, She was proud to have worked for Superintendent Robert Witter as the Friendship Central School Secretary for ten years. She loved and enjoyed her family, her friends, neighbors, and her roll as mother, homemaker and entertaining guest. She was an active member of the Wellsville First Methodist Church, where she had served as a Sunday School Teacher, Financial and Membership Secretary, as well as being a charter member of the Naomi Circle United Methodist Woman’s Society. She took satisfaction in her service as an Election Inspector; as the Lady, who advertised and took the calls for the Buffalo Good Will trucks, Wellsville visits; and as a Reach for Recovery, volunteer aid for the American Cancer Society, as a thirty-year survivor

She is survived by daughter Marcie (Larry) Robinson and grandson Eli of Ithaca, and Son Greg Lucas of Festus Missouri, three sisters Alice Harmelink, Sebring Fla. Charlotte (Sherwood) Johnson, Mill Creek Wash. and Nancy, Rochester, two brothers James McCarthy, Cuba and Matthew (Deana) McCarthy, Olean and several Nieces and Nephews. Her Parents and an older brother John, and grandson Alex Robinson predeceased her

There will be no visitation, a memorial service will be held at the Wellsville First United Methodist Church on Sunday March 4, at 3:30 PM.

Flowers are gratefully declined; Memorials can be made to First UMC Wellsville, American Cancer Society, or The Western NY Multiple Sclerosis Society.
