Cornelius O'Sullivan

One of Wellsville's Oldest Residents Died Thursday Night at His Home on Elm Street

 

Cornelius O'Sullivan died at his home, 52 Elm Street, at 8:15 o'clock Thursday evening, Sept 28, 1911, aged 91 years. Mr. O'Sullivan was born on July 28, 1820 in New Castle, Limerick County, Ireland, the son of David O'Sullivan and Mary Fitzmaurice. He came to this country in 1851, locating for a time in Waterbury, Conn., going from there to Addison, where he remained six years, and then came to Wellsville, having been a resident here for the past sixty years. He was at one time hotel keeper, but later engaged in the grocery business, being a member of the firm of O'Connor & O'Sullivan, Grocers. Mr. O'Sullivan married in 1853 Miss Katherine Lenehan, his wife dying on Feb 20th, 1903. He is survived by a son, Rev. John C. O'Sullivan, of Dodge City, Kan.; and two daughters; Mrs. John Desmond of Olean; and Mrs. Joseph S. Smith, of Wellsville; and by a sister, Mrs. Ann Mulvey of Eleven Mile, PA.

The funeral was held from Immaculate Conception Church on Monday morning at 10 o'clock, the Pastor, Rev. R. O'Brien officiating, and interment was in Sacred Heart.
