Olean Times Herald - Sept 30, 1931

 

George W. Reedy

 

George W. Reedy, eighty-seven year old Civil War Veteran, passed away Sunday at the home of his son, D.C. Reedy, 148 Grossman Avenue, after an illness of two weeks.

 

Mr. Reedy was born in Shippensville PA., May 12, 1844, and had lived in Olean for the last fifteen years.  He was a member of  PA. Company K 148th Infantry during the Civil War and served for three years with the company.  He was a member of Bayard Post G.A.R., this city.

 

Surviving are six sons, D.C. Reedy at whose home he died; Elmer Reedy, Forrest Reedy, Philadelphia; George Reedy, Sheffield Pa, William Reedy, Emporium; J K. Reedy, Butler, PA and one daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Lindsey, Sheffield, PA.

 

Arrangements for the funeral are incomplete.

 

(NOTE:  Mr. Reedy was buried in the Canaseraga Cemetery, in Canaseraga NY.  His grave is not marked with a headstone.  The American Legion has been honoring this veteran every year by placing a flag on his grave.)
