R. WELLS STOUT, age 77 of Wellsville,NY and Green Valley, AZ passed away peacefully at home on February 10, 2004. He was born on June 3, 1926 in Wellsville, the son of Wayne and Mildred (Wells) Stout. On October 17, 1947 in Cuba, NY he married Jeanne Mullin, who predeceased him on March 18, 1988. He was a graduate of WellsvilleHigh School, DickinsonJunior College, and SyracuseUniversity. He served in the US Navy during World War II. After graduation he returned home to run Stout Insurance Agency, founded by his father. He later merged with Brown Insurance Agency retiring from Brown & Stout in 1987. He was a former Allegany County Republican Chairman and a New York State Election Commissioner. He also served as Wellsville Town Republican Chairman; Republican County Committeeman; Administrative Assistant to Assemblyman Frank Walkley; Assistant Sergeant of Arms to the New York State Assembly; Assistant to State Chairman at National Republican Convention in 1972; Delegate at Large to Republican National Convention in 1976 and a former Allegany County Election Commissioner. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, a Life Member of the Wellsville Lions Club with 50 years of perfect attendance, a member of the Elks Club, and a Thirty-Second Degree Mason. He also belonged to the American Legion, The Moose Club and the Wellsville Country Club.

He is survived by his children Susan Stout of Wellsville, Sally (William) Orband of Binghamton, Kathryn (Thomas) Kennel of Rochester, Tracy (Roy) Sherman of Columbia, TN Steven (Donna) Stout of Wellsville and by his loving companion, Bonnie O’Hara and her children Deborah O’Hara and Jack O’Hara. He was a loving grandfather to Margaret Middaugh, Michael Middaugh, Jonathan Middaugh, Elizabeth Orband, Julie Orband, Megan Orband, Allison (John) Comeau, Geoffrey Gardner, Stephanie (Nick) Viglietta, Sara Stout, Kelly Stout, and Alice Rose Sherman, a granddaughter in-law, Rebecca Middaugh, and 7 great-grandchildren, his sisters Phyllis Stout of Ithaca, Hilda (Loyd) Thompson of Rochester, and Helen (Carl) Munro of Jackson Springs NC, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother: Carlton Stout and a grandson, Thomas Middaugh. Friends are invited to call on Friday, February 13 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00pm at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in Wellsville. The Wellsville Lions will conduct a service at 6:45pm and the Wellsville Elks Lodge will conduct a service at 8:45pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Eugene Ulrich at the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville on Saturday, February 14, 2004 at 9:00 am. Burial will be in the SacredHeartCemetery in Wellsville. Donations may be made to Home Care & Hospice, Wellsville or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
