OBITUARY
Martin G. Willis
Up near the eastern border of
the town of Angelica, Martin G.
Willis was born on April 11, 1852.
His parents Arunah and Abigail
Willis were among the early sett-
lers of that section and were of
that body of sturdy pioneers that
entered western New York when
it was yet a wilderness to rescue
the land for civilization. He
lived upon the farm for many
years and shortly after attaining
his majority, married Harriet
Shafter In 1880 and soon thereafter
came to the village of Angelica
to enter a mercantile business
for a short period, only to aban-
don it and go back to farming on
the place where he has lived for
thirty years or more and where
he died at the age of 75 years,
on October 24, after a losing bat-
tle with pneumonia of four days
duration. Of his father's family
consisting of four boys and four
girls, Daniel of Cambridge, Mary-
land, Mrs. Jane Farnum of Cana-
seraga and Mrs. Anrnette Palmer
of Forks, Washington only now
remain; the others were Arunah,
George, Mrs. Louisa Warner and
Mrs. Gehail Abbey. Of the mar-
riage seven children resulted: Ru
by, George, Herbert, Bethel, Mitty
Martin B. and Glenn. Early
in their married life they united
with the Methodist Church of An-
gelica. Mr. Willis was a member
of the Angelica Lodge of the I.O.
O.F. and of the Angelica Grange.
Of his family there remains to
mourn his loss, his widow, Her-
bert of Porto Rico, Bethel of Can-
aseraga, Mitty of Crittenden, Mar-
tin B. of Rochester, and Glenn at
the Willard hospital beside nine
grand children.
The funeral will be held at the
Methodist Church today(Thursday)
at two o'clock, the Rev. Titus
officiating. Music will be
furnished by the Methodist Choir
The burial service of the I.O.O.
F. will be used at the grave.
