GERALD E. LEONARD WILLIS, MI. -- Gerald E. Leonard, 61, of Willis, MI. died Wednesday (April 30, 2003) at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Ann Arbor, MI. He was born July 23, 1941 in Wellsville, NY. a son of the late James H. and Elsie G. (Tyler)Leonard. He was a member of Graceway Baptist Church, He was a self-employed contractor and enjoyed being a co-owner of the Perfect Image StylingSalon of Belleville, MI. He was the beloved husband of Louise A. (Giles) Leonard and the dear father of nine children,Debbie (Bart) Eaton of Georgia, Darlene (Terry) Gibson of Saline, MI., Diane (Jimmy)Peterman of Ohio, Denise Leonard of Ohio, Jerry (Dawn) Mills of Jerome, MI., Jimmy Mills, Jodi(Mark) Argo, Karen (J.W.) Brown all of Belleville and Gail Ianni of Westland, MI. andgrandfather to 24 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.He was the brother of Edward (Hilda) Leonard of Ypsilanti, MI., Herman Leonard of PennYan,NY., Richard Leonard of Lawrenceville, PA., Clifford (Jeannette) Leonard of Woodhull, NY.,Frederick (Linda) Leonard of Wellsville and one sister Jeannette Ketchner of Bakersfield, CA.He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Arthur Leonard and a granddaughterJessica Nicole Leonard. A funeral service was held Sunday May 4, 2003 at the David C. Brown Funeral Home with Pastor James Southward officiating.
VIRGINIA L. HARRIS ANGELICA-- Virginia L. Harris of 88 East Main Street, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2003 in the St. James Hospital in Hornell, following illness.Born May 17, 1923 in West Field, PA she was a daughter of George H. & Eva Mack Wood. On August 20, 1943 in Wellsville she Married Manley G. Harris, who survives. Mrs. Harris was a 1941 graduate of West Field Central School Class of 1941. She along with her husband owned and operated the Harris Grocery Store in Angelica from 1949-1987. Mrs. Harris was a member of the Angelica Chapter #241 Order of the Eastern Star where she was a Royal Matron in 1960, 1974 & 1975 and Past District Deputy in 1982. She enjoyed gardening, reading, talking walks, cooking and most of all taking care of her family and especially her great granddaughter. Surving Mrs. Harris besides her husband are a daughter Judy H. Treichler and husband James, a granddaughter Jackie T. Greene and husband David, and a great granddaughter Genevieve Marie Greene. Mrs. Harris was pre-deceased by a brother Donald Wood and a sister Lella Fizwater. Friends will be received on Saturday, May 10, 2003 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in the Mulholland-Crowell Funeral Home, Inc. 296 N. Main Street, Wellsville, NY where funeral and committal services will be held on Monday, May 12, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. The Rev. Gerald D. Clark, Pastor of the Farmersville Center Community Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Until The Day Dawn Cemetary, Angelica. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Angelica Hose Co.
IDA MAE BLACK WELLSVILLE -- Ida Mae Black, 79, of 25 South Brooklyn Avenue died Sunday (May 4, 2003) at Jones Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was born March 30, 1924, in Wellsville, a daughter of Garfield Black and Myrtle (Hull) Black. Ida Mae was a 1942 graduate of Wellsville High School and during World War II she was employed by the Curtis Aircraft company in Buffalo. She was a former employee of the Sinclair Refinery, in Wellsville, and in 1952 she moved to California where she was employed by Encyclopedia Britannica. She later was an Administrative Assistant for Hycon Manufacturing Company in Pasadena, CA. She returned to Wellsville to care for her mother and was employed at Dresser-Rand Corp. in Wellsville, as a secretary in the Engineering Department. She retired in 1986. She was a member of the Christian Temple Church, in Wellsville, and enjoyed music, reading, antiques and watching professional tennis. She was predeceased by two brothers, Garfield H. Black Jr., and Nathaniel H. "Nate" Black. Friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc., in Wellsville, where a funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday. The Reverend Anna Shirey will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellsville. Memorials may be made to the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps or to the Jones Memorial Hospital Memorial Fund.
Sandra M. Moag GENESEE, PA. -- Sandra M. "Sandy" Moag, 59, of Genesee, Pa. died Wednesday (May 7, 2003) in her home. She was born January 7, 1944 in Wellsville, N.Y., a daughter of Howard H. and Kathleen A. Lane Empson. On October 6, 1962, in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Wellsville, she married William J. "Bill" Moag, who survives her. She was a homemaker and lifelong area resident. Surviving besides her husband are: two sons, Mike (Barb) Moag of Ellisburg, Pa. and Mark E. (Vicki) Moag of West Bingham, Pa.; a daughter, Vicki K. (Kevin) Cramer of Wellsville; seven granchildren, Chad Glover, Kevin Cramer Jr., Heather Cramer, Tiffany Moag, Mike "Buddy" Moag, Aurora Downey, and Julius Moag; a sister, Carole (Lyle) Gee of Natalia, Tx; three brothers, Gary L. (Amy) Empson of West Bingham, Pa., Edward H. (Betty) Empson of Elmira Heights, and Donald R. (Lee) Empson of Ronkonkoma; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by a daughter, Sherri, on March 4, 1966. Friends may call today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Benjamin R. Olney Funeral Home in Ulysses, Pa., where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Rev. William W. Allen will officiate. Burial will be in the Ulysses Cemetary. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
MURIELLA V. DOLPH ANDOVER -- Muriella V. Dolph, 90, of 487 State Route 417 East died Sunday (May 4, 2003) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. She was born April 8, 1913, in the Town of Wirt, a daughter of John T. LeBar and Hazel M. (Sanford) LeBar. On October 8, 1928, in Scio, she married Byron A. Dolph who predeceased her on August 4, 1990. Muriella was a former resident of the Brown Road, in Wellsville, Alaska, Erie, PA. and moved to Andover in 1982. She was employed as a crane operator in Buffalo during World War II, operated a proprietary home in Stannards for several years and was a caregiver at various nursing homes in Wellsville. Surviving are one brother Leslie (Carol) Monahan of Andover, five grandchildren, Elaine (Clair) Slawson of Ulysses, PA., Linda (Randy) Young of Hornell, David Dolph of Hornell, John Dolph of Dansville, and Timothy Dolph of Avon, nine great grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one son, Keith W. Dolph on November 3, 1980, and five brothers and sisters, LaDorna Pendleton, Arnold LeBar, Phyllis Carlin, Russell Monahan and Ronald Monahan. Friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 7 p.m.. to 9 p.m. at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc., in Wellsville, where a funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday. The Reverend Carl Kemp will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Andover. Memorials may be made to the SPCA Serving Allegany County.
Maurice L. Field SCIO -- Maurice L. "Morey" Field, 73, of 4051 Pine Street, Scio died Wednesday (May 7, 2003) at home following an illness. He was born June 8, 1929 in Salamanca, a son of Loren and Pearl Luce Field. In 1949 he married Doris Mildred Milks, who predeceased him in 1959. On April 29, 1961 in Scio, he married Kay Karr, sho survives. Mr. Field was a 1947 graduate of Salamanca High School. He served in the U.S. Army from January 18, 1952 to January 17, 1954. Mr. Field was a meat cutter at Loblaws in Wellsville and in Johnson City where he lived for three years. He returned to Scio and worked for Fancher Furniture in Salamanca for a number of years. In 1965 he went to work for Dresser-Rand in Wellsville on and off for 30 years. Also during that time he owned and operated Field Food Grocery Store in Scio from 1965 to 1989. Mr. Field retired from Dresser-Rand in 1995. Mr. Field was a minister of the Institute of Devin Metaphysical Research (IDMR). He was an avid snowmibiler, snow skier; enjoyed both cross-country motorcycling and trial riding. Mr. Field was a member of the Scio Volunteer Fire Department and the Amity Pathfinders. Surviving Mr. Field are: three sons, Larry M. (Sandra) Field, Dennis B. (Sheila) Field, and Loren S. Field of Scio; a daughter, Lynnette K. (William) Armstrong of Scio; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a brother, Dana (Virginia) Field of Westons Mills; two sisters, Myrtle (Ed) Blackmon of Kill Buck and Irene Hutchinson of Little Valley; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Field was predeceased by two sisters, Margaret Blackmon and infant Ronda Field. Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Mulholland-Crowell Funeral Home Inc. in Wellsville, where funeral and committal services will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. Mr. Field's son Dennis Field, who is a minister of the Arkport branch of the IDMR will officiate. Burial will be in the Fairlawn Cemetary in Scio. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice. RICHARD ALLAN HOWARD MESQUITE, TX. -- Richard Allan Howard, 53, died Wednesday (April 23, 2003) in Mesquite. He was born June 29, 1949 , in Cuba, NY. a son of Lloyd E. Howard and Eva M. Morton. On July 9, 1983, in Little Genesee, NY. he married Gloria J. Weimer who survives. Mr. Howard is also survived by a son, Jonathan (Tammy) Howard and four daughters, Dawna (Jeffrey) Pryor of Dallas, TX., Tracy (Douglas) Golish of Comwall, NY. ,Tammy (J. Carlos) Delgado of Dallas, and Tara (Jeffrey) Hunt of Allentown, NY. In addition Mr. Howard is survived by five grandsons, and eight granddaughters, four sisters, Eva M. Howard of Wellsville, NY., Cheryl A. Fleming of Allegany, NY., Sonya K. Morris of Wellsville, Connie Howells of Friendship, NY., three brothers, Lawrence Hardbuck of Danbury, CT., Everett Mulkin of Seattle, WA., and Roy Howard of Oceanside, CA., his grandmother Hazel Morton (age 102) of Rushford, NY. and a favorite aunt, Ruth Hurd of Richburg, NY. He was predeceased by his parents. Rick was a police officer for nine years and worked in the oil fields of Allegany County, NY. Upon moving to Texas, Rick entered the construction business doing excavation and demolition. Rick was an avid shooter and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He taught all of his grandchildren to enjoy shooting and loved to take them to the range to shoot "golfballs," his idea of golf. He was a member of the Muzzle Loaders Association of Dallas and the Terrell Gun Club Terrell, TX., He became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on July 26, 1992. Rick and Gloria were sealed in the Dallas Temple on September 4, 1993. Rick served as Young Mens Secretary, Stake Missionary, Asst. Ward Mission Leader, Ward Mission Leader and Elders Quorum President in the Church. He believed his greatest calling was that of Stake Volunteer Prison Coordinator. Rick had visited at the Seagoville Federal Prison since 1995. Rick will be missed by all that knew and loved him. A funeral service was held April 26, 2003 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Mesquite, with the Bishop Michael Norton officiating. Burial was in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, Dallas. Donations may be made to the National Rifle Association or a charity of the donor's choice. SUSIE D. BAKER ANDOVER -- Susie D. Baker, 96, passed away peacefully Tuesday (May 6, 2003) at the Highland Health Care Center, Wellsville. She was born March 15, 1907, in Andover, to George and Hattie Fuller Baker. In 1925, she graduated from Andover Central School. On June 4, 1933 she married Roger Baker who predeceased her on February 25, 1977. She worked for several years at the Andover Silk Mill as a quiller. Later, she devoted herself to the task of wife and homemaker. Mrs. Baker is survived by four daughters, Jackie Baker of Rochester, Lorraine Baker of Dundee, Jeanie Baker of Andover and Rosamond Hulse of Portville and seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by two sisters, Doris Graves and Eleanor Lunn, one brother Howard Baker and one grandson, Tracey Hulse. Susie was an avid reader and impressed many with her talent at sketching people. Friends may call on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Baker-Swan Funeral Home, 7 Church Street, Andover. A funeral service will be held immediately following visiting hours at 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. The Reverend David Truscott of the First Baptist Church of Andover will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Andover at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Andover or to the Andover Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 726, Andover, NY., 14806 LEON H. ROESKE BELMONT -- Leon H. Roeske, 86, of 4982 Route 19 South, died Tuesday (May 6, 2003) at Jones Memorial Hospital. He was born August 1, 1916 in Wellsville, a son of Otto Roeske and Adeline (Heinke) Roeske. On June 28, 1941, in Friendship, he was married to Olga Mohar who survives. He attended Wellsville High School. He was employed as a Maintenance Superintendent at Moore Steam Turbine and then Dresser Rand from 1934 to 1978. He was a member of the St. Mary's Church in Belmont. Surviving, including his wife, are two sons, David Roeske of Modesto, CA., Thomas (Sandy) Roeske of Vancouver, WA., two daughters, Judy DeMarte of Wellsville and Patricia (Bruce) Townsend of Belmont, 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren, a brother, Ebert Roeske of Belmont and a sister, Anita Harrell of Allentown, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Otto and Eli Roeske and two sisters, Clara Kalota and Margaret Dunn. There will be no prior visitation. Friends may attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Friday (May 9, 2003) at the St. Mary's Church in Belmont with the Reverend Dennis Mancuso officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Belmont. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Belmont. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Church. WILFRED "Bill" J. SCHNEIDER SCIO -- Wilfred "Bill" J. Schneider, 73, died Tuesday (March 18, 2003). He was a son of the late Wilfred Schneider and Virginia Pasquale. He attended school in Scio. He married Duretta (Bailey) Schneider who survives. The Schneiders are charter and for several years, were active members of the Western New York Steam Gas and Steam Association in Alexander, NY. Survivors in addition to his wife who lives in Moultrie, GA. are, five children, Ivy Stewart of Lake Wales, FL., Wayne of CA., Laurence of Ocala, FL., Wilfred L. of Orlando, FL., and Laurel Cotton of Chapel Hill, NC and eight grandchildren.
CLIFFORD C. GREEN WELLSVILLE -- Clifford C. Green, 87, passed away Sunday (May 11, 2003) in the Highland Healthcare Center. Born January 11, 1916, in Sharon Township, Pa. she was a son of Chester and Hazel Bump Green. OnSept. 8, 1973 in Wellsville he married Jean Galutia who survives. Mr. Green worked in the oil field, logged timber and worked construction for Otis Eastern and Joyce Brothers both of Wellsville. Mr. Green also worked for Jackson and White drilling water wells. He retired from the Green Thumb Program where he worked for the Belmont Housing Action Corp. and as a maintenance helper at the Wellsville High School. Mr. Green enjoyed gardening, farming and horse pulling. he especially enjoyed spending time with his best friend Prince. Mr. Green was a past President of the "Dads of Foreign Service Veterans" through the VFW Post 2530. Surviving Mr. Greene besides his wife are five daughters, Barb (Robert) Stuck of Newport Richie, FL., Rebecca (Elmer) Rogers of Zephyr Hills, FL., Linda (Mchael) Williams of West Valley, FL., Sharon Chase of Commerce City, CO., Janice (Ronald) Yocum of Franklinville, six sons Clifford (Hollie) Green of Machias, Matthew (Toni) Wlasniewski of Hamburg, Timothy Wlasniewski of Syracuse, Theodore (Renda) Wlasniewski of Andover, Thomas (Sue) Wlasniewski of Belmont, Joel (Terry) Wlasniewski of Andover, thirty-two grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, two brothers Wade Green, Clyde (Polly) Greene of Cuba and many nieces and nephews and cousins. Mr Green was pre-deceased by a brother Arnold Green and two sisters Marion Madison and Mildred Whitehill all of Wellsville. ELIZABETH LYNN "FERRARO" HURLBURT KNOXVILLE, TN. -- Elizabeth Lynn "Ferraro" Hurlburt, 15, passed away Sunday (May 11, 2003). Elizabeth was a student at Bearden High School where she played on the soccer team, belonged to the Tennessee Valley Futbol Soccer Team "Impact" and the Family Bowl. She is survived by her parents, Joseph and Constance Ferraro, a bother, Matthew Ferraro, a sister, Stephanie Allen Drake, paternal grandparents Pat and Ralph Ferraro, maternal Grandmother Katherine Scherer, maternal Grandfather and Grandmother Kay and Richard Rifenburg, aunts, Virginia Eckert and Jolene Rifenburg, uncle Richard Rifenburg, numerous other aunts and uncles, one niece and two nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday May 14 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Highland Memorial Funeral Home, 5315 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN. , 37919 and from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Bearden High School auditorium. NINA TORREY Loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great-grandmother CERES -- F. Nina Torrey, 91, of Ceres, died Sunday (May 11, 2003) in the Cuba Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility following a long illness. Born January 22, 1912, in Little Genesee, she was a daughter of the late Archie L. and Sadie Mascho Loucks. On May 1, 1927, in Little Genesee, she married Adrian Bruce Torrey, who died Dec. 24, 1989. Mrs. Torrey was employed by Alca Corp. in Olean until her retirement. She was a member of the Ceres United Methodist Church and the Order of Eastern Star in Bolivar. She enjoyed crocheting, decorating cakes, bowling and her family. Surviving are four sons, Adrian L. (Ethelruth) Torrey of Olean, E. Bruce (Lea) Torrey and Wayne L. (Thelma) Torrey both of Zephyrhills, FL., and Timothy D. (Dorothy) Torrey of Barboursville, VA., a daughter Jerrie L. LaFever of Bolivar, 20 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, two brothers, Cornelius (Irene) Loucks of Ceres and Arnold L. (Maxine) Loucks of Theodore, AL., three sisters, Etta White of Niagara Falls, Constance Leverett of Shinglehouse, PA. and Maritta Williams of Cheektowaga and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Shirley J. Blakeslee and two sisters, Beulah Fuller and Viola Taylor.
