Return to: Angelica Raceway Home Page The photos presented in this Wittie Collection pages are from the original negatives done by the late Dick Wittie, Photographer, from Andover, NY Dick traveled to many racetracks as a professional photographer of the day and officially represented many of the tracks. Below is a photo of Dick (at left) in his usual white garb shown here. (Update: Keith Day of Texas and former car owner & driver at the Perry & Holland tracks, as well as others reports--"THE DRIVER OF CAR 25 AT PERRY IS DON DANIELS AND HIS MECHANIC WAS PHIL KELLY BOTH FROM PERRY, I HEARD PHIL DIED BUT DON'T KNOW ABOUT DON, WE USED TO PIT BESIDE HIM AT HOLLAND AND PERRY, HE WAS RUNNING A BIG GEMMY WITH A WAYNE HORNING HEAD WHICH AT THAT TIME WAS FAST IF THEY COULD KEEP IT TOGETHER, THE HEAD WAS SPECIAL HAD INTAKE ON ONE SIDE AND EXHAUSTED THE OPPOSITE SIDE. PHIL KELLY AND GANG WERE OUT SNOWMOBILING AND PHIL RAN INTO A GUY WIRE FROM A LIGHT POLE AND BROKE NECK."
The negatives are owned by Dick's widow, Neva Wittie, and son Marty Wittie. It is through their generosity that we are able to share the photos. The original negatives were loaned to William A. Greene of Andover who has painstakingly restored them to as close as original form and produced the works shown here. I personally thank Neva and family for allowing us to publish them here for perhaps the first time as a collection. Most of the photos have no caption since we at the website do not know who the drivers and people photographed are. If you know anyone (for certain) in any of these photos we will be very happy to hear from you so we can fill in the details. PLEASE IDENTIFY THE PHOTO BY NUMBER SO WE KNOW EXACTLY WHICH ONE YOU REFER TO. Ron Taylor, Webmaster; email: RON TAYLOR
