Car 55 Who Are You?

Identified..........see below

"Hi Ron, Looks like the driver/owner of the # 55 stock car was the very good driver Hank Chaffee who ran out of Dundee, NY.  Hank drove many of the tracks in Allegany County but mainly Cuba Lake Raceway in the mid 50's.  Several have e-mailed me confirming this information.  I still say the man in the white shirt on the far side of the car with the bill of his cap turned up looks like the great Dean Layfield.  As your readers will remember Dean raced at many of the same tracks in Allegany County that Hank did so that puts more credence that Dean is the man in the picture.

Note: 3/2007; In a letter from Granddaughter of Hank Chaffee, she noted that according to wife of Hank and their son, Hank drove #55 alright, but only in red and white color.  If you note in the photos of Wellsville Raceway, one of the photos of the Full Line-up, there are two #55 cars, one is red & white and one is Brown and Creme as the above car.  Looks like the mystery continues for the car.
