Roadbed to be Utilized.
Willet L. Ward and E. J. Potter of Wellsville spent a couple of days in Bolivar this week in the interest of a proposed electric road to connect
Wellsville and Bolivar. The matter was discussed informally with the village trustees at the regular meeting Monday evening and the question of granting a franchise will probably be
considered soon. The scheme is to utilize the abandoned roadbed of the old Bradford, Eldred & Cuba railroad which will save all expense of grading for the entire route. It is thought that
the right of way can be secured for a very nominal sum, much of it for al-most nothing as it is waste land.
The villages of Wellsville and Bolivar will be asked to grant a reasonable franchise for the use of the streets on which it is proposed to run
cars. Mr. Ward in conversation with the writer stated that only a conditional franchise would be asked of the Bolivar trustees, one that can be revoked if the line is not built within a
specified time. Mr. Ward says that New York capitalists stand ready to advance the money to build and equip the line as soon as the franchises and right of way are secured. The electricity
will be generated by powerful gas engines and Mr. Ward is very confident that the scheme would be a paying one.
Here in Bolivar there is a division of opinion as to the benefit that Bolivar would derive from a trolley line connection with Wellsville. Some
business men fear that it would be a detriment to them while many others are confident that it would be a good thing for Bolivar from any standpoint.
