Trains have played an important part in the history of Allegany County from the beginning of the 1800's when the Erie Railroad started laying track...(See "The Railroad"

On this & the pages that follow are shown pictures taken in Allegany County of Trains thru the years.  Some are at unknown locations and others are easily identifiable.  If you spot a location of any un-captioned picture please drop me an email & I will credit that photo id to you. (email: Picture ID

Photos are from a part of personal collection of William A. Greene of Andover.  Also, a few have been added from the collections of Dan Nicholson, Richard Palmer & others, with thanks.

One of the most obvious scenes of the Erie Railroad in Allegany County was the trestle bridge near Belfast,NY.  It seems a great void exists when those of us who were accustomed to seeing this now drive through the area... Here is a postcard rendering of the giant bridge with two locomotives heading toward each other.......hope there were two tracks!
