Bradford-Eldred-Cuba Railroad

This page will contain info about "my favorite" railroad, BEC RR, which ran thru my hometown, Allentown c1881 to 1893.  Updates will be added as obtained.  Ron Taylor

Thanks to "Bubba", (Bill Greene, Andover) with credit to a January 1893 edition of Andover News, Andover NY.

"The B.E. & C. Closed"

"Friday's Wellsville Reporter says: Frank M. Baker of Addison, agent for Receiver T. C. Platt of the B. E. & C. ran the last trip over the road this morning and traffic will be abandoned hereafter.

The courts issued an order last Friday closing the road, owing to the fact that the business has not been sufficient to keep the road in operation.

This will be a bad blow to Allentown.  Bolivar can stand it, for she has a road to Olean.  Wellsville too will suffer by the abandonment.  Forty men are still on the pay-roll and these will all be thrown out of employment.

The B. E. & C. will probably be sold on Jan. 25 and just what will become of it then is unknown."
