INFO: U.S. Army, Captain of Co. E, 5th Regiment of the New Jersey National Guard, including the period of time during which the regiment was on the Mexican border. He organized the machine gun company of the 5th regiment when the United States entered World War I. The 5th became the 114th Regiment and Captain Doran was transferred from that to Company of the 111th Machine Gun Battalion, 2nd Division. He also served some time with the Signal Corps while in France. All info came from his obituary in the Andover News.

Received the Distinguished Service Cross for extraordinary heroism in action near St. Juvin, France on 10/16/1918. Pvt. Duffy, with another soldier, voluntarily made several trips out into "No Man’s Land", under heavy fire and carried 8 wounded men to cover. ( from "Heroes All" by Harry R. Stringer, P:133). Also fought at Toul Margache, St. Mihel, and Moluse Argonne in France. Served overseas from 5/1/1918 to 4/14/1919. Promoted to Pfc. 6/21/1918. Discharged 5/23/1919. K all thru its war activities, both on the Mexican border before WWI and from 10/20/1917 to 3/31/1919 in WWI. He saw much fighting and "was a real soldier." He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received during the war. Discharged after the war. Andover News.

INFO: Served with the YMCA. Enlisted 2/1/1918. Sent directly to France. Served at Vosges Mts., Alsace Lorraine, Neufchateu, Cornimont, and Gerardemer. Then at Marcelles. He received injuries while carrying the wounded from the battle fields of France, from which he never recovered. Returned to the U.S. 12/-/1919. Served in Hoboken N.J. and then in Panama.
