Bolivar Auto Firm

Marks 40th Year

Bolivar—The Ferris and Forbes automobile agency here, Allegany County’s oldest Ford dealership, marks the 40th anniversary of its founding during the month of August.

The agency was opened in 1933 by Glenn Ferris who was joined by his son, Shirley, in 1946.  The two generations became a three-generation business in 1969 when Thomas Ferris, son of Shirley and grandson of Glenn, joined the business.

The agency handles both Ford and Mercury automobiles.

The business originated in a small brick building on Main St. here, expanding to its present facilities as years went by.  Recently the company opened a branch Ford outlet in Cuba.

The “Forbes” in the agency name refers to the late Dr. Robert N. Forbes of Allegany who was associated with the firm in its earlier years when it was a branch of the Forbes Ford agency in Olean.  The Forbes Motor Agency was once located at 811-819 W. State Street, Olean.  (From Olean Times Herald – August, 1973)
