MOON SHANTY BRIDGE

The bridge south of the Cheese factory in Obi (the one where Walt Fitzgerald nearly lost his life) called the "Moon Shanty Bridge" received it's name from a man named MOON who shantied there and hunted deer.

The story is told that a early settler by the name of MOON lived what is now called Obi and was sleeping in a field at night.  One night while sleeping a panther came and started covering him up with leaves.

He lay quiet pretending to be asleep knowing that the panther intended to return with cubs and teach them how to kill him.  He waited until the panther left and made himself scarce!

He later built a shanty at this location and it became known as "Moon Shanty Bridge."
