Schools of the Town of  Wellsville

"Wellsville Free Academy"

Photo from archives of Dyke Street Museum.  Per Shirley Engle, "The school was on Main Street site and was, I think, the third on that site.  It was built in 1876 following the burning of an earlier school.  It was known as the Wellsville Free Academy, later the Wellsville Union School Academy.  In 1885 a large addition was built and I think the picture shows it with the addition.  This school burned in 1891 and was replaced by a new one."
