Biographical Sketch

Capt. Charles W. Wells

Among the names of those whose homes were once in the Ausable Valley, who have attained positions of large responsibility and influence in business, social or political circles, that of Charles W. Wells, now of Saginaw, Mich., is deserving of favorable notice.

Mr. Wells is a good illustration of the privilege and opportunity which are the birthright of the American boy, and of the large success which is possible when that opportunity is thoroughly understood and is grasped by an intelligent hand and a faithful heart.

He was born in Upper Jay, July 16th, 1841, and was brought up among the usual surroundings of a country boy in those days.

He began his business career in the employ of the Rogers'. Served with honor in the Army of the Union, enlisting as a private and returning as captain in the 118th. Went West, accumulated a fortune by his own talent as a business man, and is now recognized as one of the leading citizens in the state of Michigan.

Was a Harrison presidential elector, and has been honored with many responsible positions in his state.
