     The town of Copake was active in furnishing troops and money during the late war.  It furnished a total of one hundred and sixty-six men, and raised money as follows,

In 1862, on credit of the town................................$3,800.00

In 1863, by town tax................................................1,557.00

In 1864 by town tax................................................41,666.82

In 1865 by town tax................................................. 1,822.10

In 1865 on credit of the town..................................21,363.00

                               Total........................................$70,208.92

 

     Of this amount $65,773.12 was paid out as bounties for volunteers, and $ll22.50 for expenses of enlisting them.  The State refunded to the town the sum of $21,100 of this amount.

     The town bonds issued were sixteen in number, and of various amounts, ranging from $300 to $5000 each.  The gross amount of the bonds was $21,363.
