BIOGRAPHY OF SAMUEL RANKIN (1848-1891) 

   

     Samuel was the son of Charles and Margaret Rankin, who were born in Ireland.

He had siblings, Mary (Rebecca), Jennie (Jane), and Maggie (Margaret).

Sam and his siblings are named in the will of their father, dated 7 October 1879.

Samuel died 16 November 1891 at 44 yrs. 

He married Mary A. (1853-1925).  Samuel and Mary are buried at Hudson City Cemetery along with two children, Lizzie and Lester, who both died young.

 

     Samuel Rankin, b. about 1846, joined on 28 December 1864, at Troy, NY, Co. A, NY 6th Cavalry, Regiment, mustered out 17 June 1865, transferred to Co. A., 2nd, Regiment on 17 June 1865. On 9 August 1865, he was mustered out of the service, at Louisville, Kentucky

     From his pension application card, his wife was Mary, pension file date, Oct 22, 1888. App. #676.301, Cert. #557.777, and Mary's App #534.666 and Cert. #346.277.
