Family Ground

CLASSIFICATION: Family ground.
LOCATION: On Plymouth Hill Farm, Dover Plains, in 1914, the property of Horatio N. Bain.
CONDITION: In an open Field.
INSCRIPTION: 1 in number. Copied August 30, 1914, by J. W. Poucher, M. D. A local recluse requested that when he died he should be buried alone in the field.

South Dover Ground

CLASSIFICATION: Community ground.
LOCATION: At South Dover, (Wingdale).
CONDITION: Well cared for.
INSCRIPTIONS: 204 in number. Copied August, 19, 1913, by J. W. Poucher, M. D., and Miss Grace L. Jones.
REMARKS: The "First Baptist Church of Dover" was organized 1757, built the "Red Meeting House" at South Dover in 1758. This burial ground lies a little to the west of the site of the meeting house and was probably begun by the meeting house congregation either as a churchyard or a community ground. The first pastor of this church, Samuel Waldo, is buried in this ground.
