Bishop Colton appointed the Rev. Cornelius Fischer to organize a new parish near the eastern city line, September 9, 1913. Father Fischer rented a hall on Genesee Street in which he said the first Mass for his new congregation the following Sunday.
He bought land for the new church, and started a combination building which was ready for the midnight Mass, Christmas, 1914. The school was started about the same time.
