Bishop Turner commissioned the Rev. James Howley, May 7, 1927 to establish a new parish in South Buffalo. Father Howley bought a tract of land, June 11, 1927, and held the first Mass here on July 4, 1927. He started a temporary church, and he said Mass within the roofless walls on the Sunday following.
