Tax Roll of 1800 - The first tax roll prepared for the territory west of the Genesee river, "and then all included in the vast township of Northampton," bears date of October 6, 1800. The names of only twelve taxable dwellers within the Holland Purchase appear on the roll. Four of these were Buffalonians - Johnston, Middaugh, Palmer, and Lane. The little hamlet cannot have been held as of much consequence by the collector of taxes, for the total amount he could collect there under that assessment was $4.55, divided as follows:
