LABREESE, SMITH posted by Lynda Smith on Tuesday, August 13, 1996

We are searching for my grandfather, Wilfried (sp.) Robert SMITH. It is our understanding that he was born in Tonawanda, New York on approximately April 27, 1857, or more likely, 1869. The story goes that he ran away when he was a child and changed his name, but there is no proof of this either way. He married Dorothy Mae (May) LABREESE in Lyons, now Clinton, Iowa in 1899. They had three sons, LeRoi Lincoln, born Feb. 09, 1902 in Lyons, now Clinton, Iowa; Earl Wilfrid, born Sept 213, 1904 in Minneapolis, Minnesota; Ivor Ingomar (my dad), born April 25, 1909 in Lady Smith, British Columbia, and a daughter, Dorothy May, born in 1912 in Collingwood, Vancouver, BC. She died in Washington state in 1916. Wilfried Robert SMITH wrote books (partly poetry and prose) under that name, W. R. SMITH, Platinum Bill and W. H. Ozzee (Ossee). He was a newspaper publisher in Washington state and California and Oregon. He was also a "faith healer"/doctor. Thank you very much for any help you can give.

Searching for the parents of Silas HARVEY Sr. b. 1795 Mass. Our first record of him is when he was inducted into the NY. State Militia "for the defense of Clarence" in Oct. 1813. He served in Capt. Calvin Fillmore's Co., Lt. Almond Ford's Plt. He was mustered at Black Rock, and a few days later went north Fort Niagara, where he "volunteered to cross over and occupy Fort George. He was discharged at Buffalo in December 1813 "a few days before the British burned it." If anyone has any knowledge of these HARVEY's or any other early Harveys, Lockes, or Shencks in the area, I would be greatly interested.
