George BROWN was born near Niagara Falls, NY in 1791 the son of Samuel BROWN b. ca 1754 and an unknown wife. Other siblings were Samuel Jr., Rachel, and Joshua b. 1790. I am looking for any information on an Edward DIESTELMEYER. The family name is sometimes spelled DISTELMEYER. According to the 1871 Ontario Census he was born around 1857 in Germany where he was born. He came to Waterloo County, Ontario, Canada, around 1860-61. He married Carolina RAU on May 4, 1880, in Berlin, Ontario (now called Kitchener). They had a daughter, Lissette M. DIESTELMEYER, who was born Sept. 8, 1885 in Berlin, Ontario. The family moved to Buffalo at an unknown date. The last reference to Edward DIESTELMEYER comes from an obituary for his father, John Carl 'Charles' DIESTELMEYER, in 1913. It said that Edward was living in Buffalo, New York, at the time of his father's death. How long the family lived in Buffalo is not known.

Martin Luther ROOT youngest of 9 children b. 09 Oct 1837 in Erie Co., NY ("near Buffalo"). Parents names unknown, but mother was a widow at time of death ca. 1872. Older brother Adolphis M. ROOT (b 1829 NY) "only brother living at that time". Sister Sarah ROOT (b 09 Jan 1824 NY) married 27 Nov 1848 in Warren, IL. Adolphis in Burlington, IA by 1860, where Sarah died 29 Sep 1856, so reason to suspect that they left NY by mid-1850s. M.L. enlisted Union forces in IL & by 1870 married & settled in Homer, IA. Looking for connections in Erie Co. before 1860.

My grandfather, Matthew AMERICA, emigrated from Germany to the US between 1860-1880, married an American and they had eight children, five boys and three girls. they lived in a German-speaking neighborhood in Buffalo and some of the children attended a German-speaking grammar school. My father, Aloysius (Jack) AMERICA worked for the Larkin Co. for many years as well as the Bell Aircraft Co.
