This town, embracing township No. 4 of the eleven towns, was formed from Mexico, by an act of March 14, 1800, including all that part of the present town of Denmark north of Deer river. It received its name from General Henry Champion, of Colchester, Connecticut, who was on e of the early proprietors of this town, and also very extensively interested in land in Ohio and in the western part of the State.
