relentless death has come again,
resless, pale, terrible King,
His silent shaft over peace has slain
and cut in twain life's slender string.
Behold ,what scenes of anguish rise,
As death projects his awful rod,
But soon he drops his hostile gauge
And open the way that leads to God.
Sure, to the mansions of the blest,
When infant innocence ascends,
Some angel, brighter than the rest
Their spirits upward flight attends.
On wings of light and love they rise,
Beyond where stars in splendor roll;
Till some fair sister in the skies
Meets and receives the kindred soul.
There on the Mount of Heavenly rest,
like Verdant flowers ,immortal bloom,
In robes of light divinely dressed
and fixed in there eternal home.
