KING - Just after the Herald went to press last Friday, the news reached this village of the tragic death of Carl H. KING, the 19 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry B. KING of Hathaway's Corners. The young man had long been afflicted with an incurable heart trouble and just before his death, suffered also from insomnia. despondent over the condition of his health, he swallowed an ounce of carbolic acid, which caused almost instant death.

Deceased was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. KING. He was a young man of kindly disposition and manner and had many friends. Despite his physical condition he was very helpful to his parents about the farm and home. He is survived by his parents, four sisters, Miss Blanche, a teacher in the West High school, Rochester; Miss Mildred, who teaches in Oswego; Mrs. Clarence HARDELL of Rochester and Miss Cora, and a brother, Seth. The two latter reside with their parents.

Funeral services were held at the family home at 3 o'clock, Sunday afternoon, the Rev. George E. FINLEY, pastor of the Canandaigua Baptist church, officiating. Interment was made in the South Farmington cemetery.

BULLIS - The funeral of Mrs. Sara M. BULLIS (widow of Jonathan), who died on Thursday, March 29th, was held from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles GREEN in Macedon, Saturday, (cut off)

Farmington, Jan. 3 - The death of Miss Mary J. SMITH, of this town, occurred in the home of her niece, Mrs. George ALLEN, at Clyde, on Sunday afternoon (Jan 2nd), after an illness of only three weeks. Miss SMITH was the daughter of the late Elwood and Joanna SMITH and had always lived in this town, with the exception of a few years spent in Clyde. She was born in this town on September 18, 1847 and was 68 years old. In early life she was a successful teacher in the schools of this town. She leaves one sister, Mrs. Albert PADGHAM, of this town and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held on Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock from her late home in Farmington.

Caroline H. HERENDEEN, widow and sole Legatee, and W. C. ELLIS are named as the executors of the estate of Charles H. HERENEDEEN, the will having just been admitted to probate. Mr. HERENDEEN died in the town of Manchester on February 3rd. The value of the estate is given as $6,200.

HERENDEEN - Charles H. HERENDEEN, a member of one of the early Quaker families of Farmington, died at his home in Shortsville on Thursday night of last week. The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, and burial was made in South Farmington Cemetery.

Mr. HERENDEEN'S great grandfather and grandfather, were Quakers, and came to the town of Farmington in 1790, buying the HERENDEEN farm, which has remained in the family, continuously, until this winter, from Phelps and Gorham (purchase). On this farm, Charles H. HERENDEEN was born, June 13, 1840, a son of the late W. Wilkinson and Caroline Arnold HERENDEEN, and there he lived until April 1915, when failing health force him to give up active life and he moved into the village of Shortsville.

He was first married to Miss Julia NEWTON, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Proctor NEWTON of Shortsville, who died in April 1897. On June 10, 1903, he married Miss Carrie MERSEREAU, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George MERSEREAU of Farmington.

He was well known in the Masonic circles, was a past master of Canandaigua Lodge, F and AM, a member of Excelsior Chapter, RAM of Canandaigua; a member of Zenobia Commandery, Palmyra; of Damascus Temple, Mystic Shrine of Rochester, a member of Palmyra Council, and a member of Manchester Grange, Patrons of Husbandry.

He was prominent politically, having always been a staunch Democrat and an untiring worker for his party. In 1892, he was elected supervisor from the town of Farmington, a strong Republican town, and held that office for several terms. His father, W. Wilkinson HERENDEEN ,was appointed major genial of militia by Secretary of State, William H. SEWARD.

He leaves his wife and two young children, Donald and Doris, all of Shortsville.

became the wife of William Randall, who died in 1896. To them 10 children were born and all but one are living. Mrs. Randall leaves two daughters, Mrs. Fred Knowles of South Solon, Ohio, and Mrs. Elizabeth Howland, of Manchester, and seven sons, Edward H. of Farmington, Walter and Frank, of Canandaigua, Durfee, Herbert W., Wilkinson H., and John Randall, all of Farmington. She also leaves nineteen grandchildren, and twenty one great grandchildren. The funeral was held from the family home, Tuesday afternoon, and interment was made in South Farmington cemetery.

A pretty wedding took place at the HERENDEEN homestead in the town of Farmington on Sunday afternoon, when Ruth HERENDEEN, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles HERENDEEN was united in marriage to Charles CASWELL of Brockport. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Walter St. JOHN, pastor (cut off)

Death of Former Farmington Resident - The death of Lewis QUACKENBUSH, 69 years of age, occurred in his late home in Penn Yan at 3 o'clock pm on June 28. Mr. QUACKENBUSH leave his wife Caroline Barnes QUACKENBUSH of Penn Yan; two brothers and one sister and one cousin, Edgar B. CASE of Victor.

Mrs. QUACKENBUSH is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert BARNES, residents of Farmington, where her girlhood was passed and her married too place many years ago. The funeral was held from the home in Penn Yan and his remains were taken to Farmington, where the burial took place in the Farmington Cemetery. (Chapel Cemetery)

DEATH - William F. HOWE died at his home in Farmington Sunday morning, February 18th, after a long illness. He was born in Ireland, Aug 21, 1846 and came with his parents to this country at an early age. On August 30, 1862, he enlisted at Macedon in Co. B, 160th Regiment. He served in the Department of the Gulf of Mexico and the Department of Virginia, serving through Shenandoah and Virginia campaigns and at the battles of Winchester and Cedar Creek. He was a witness of General SHERIDAN'S famous ride through the Shenandoah Valley. Mr. HOWE was honorable discharged at Savannah, GA, Nov 1, 1865. On December 26, 1868, he married Miss Margaret CUNNINGHAM, besides whom he leaves one daughter, Mrs. Eugene F. MC FARLAND, of Rochester; one son, John HOWE of Macedon; on grandson, Bartholomew MC FARLAND and two sisters, Mrs. Mary WEBB of Fairport and Mrs. John MALONEY of Macedon. The funeral was held in St. Patrick's church, Macedon, Thursday, with interment in Palmyra.

+ The death of Mrs. Hannah RANDALL, widow of James, occurred Tuesday morning about 6 o'clock in the home of Mrs. Minnie SIMMONS in Canandaigua. Mrs. RANDALL was born in England on July 5, 1840. She came to this country in 1850, when 10 years of age, with a large number of immigrants (cut off)

(and this one) Ontario Co. Journal, Feb 1917 - At Canandaigua, Feb 20, 1917, Mrs. Hannah RANDALL, aged 76 years. Interment at Shortsville. Mrs. Hannah RANDALL, aged 76 years, passed away at the home of Mrs. Minnie SIMMONS, Telyea street, on Tuesday. There survive three sons, Orrin J., Edward T. and Harvey D. RANDALL, of Farmington. The funeral services were held at South Farmington chapel yesterday. Interment at Shortsville.

Mrs. Hannah RANDALL, who came to this country with her parents in 1850 and settled in Farmington, died in Canandaigua, Tuesday (Feb 20), aged 77 years. She resided in Farmington until last November. Mrs. RANDALL leaves three sons, Orrin J., Edward T, and Harry D., and two grandchildren, Margaret and Leon ROMISER, children of her deceased daughter, all of Farmington.

James C. Padgham - The death of James C. Padgham, a highly respected and lifelong resident of the town of Farmington, occurred last week Thursday at St. Mary's hospital, Rochester, following an operation. His age was 58 years. Mr. Padgham was prominent as a citizen, taking interest in all things of a worth to the community. He was a member of Farmington Grange, of the M. E. church at South Farmington, and president of the cemetery association of that place. Possessing a good tenor voice, he sung in the choir at different times in many churches, and had sung at nearly two hundred funerals. Genial and friendly in disposition, he leaves a wide circle of friends. The survivors are his wife, Mrs. Carrie Haines Padgham, one son, Gilbert H. Padgham, four grandchildren, Jennie, Elizabeth, Leonard and James, one sister, Mrs. Joseph Tuttle, and three brothers, Albert, of this town, Gilbert L., of Grand Ledge, Mich., and Henry, of Victor. The funeral services were held at 3 o'clock on Monday afternoon from the South Perinton M. E. church, Rev. J. W. Allatt, of Victor, officiating. The burial followed in the cemetery at South Perinton.

OBITUARY - Padgham

The death of James C. Padgham of Farmington occurred at his home about five miles east of this village on Thursday afternoon, April 19th. Mr. Padgham had recently undergone an operation for a serious intestinal trouble. With the exception of one year when he lived in Macedon, Mr. Padgham's home during his entire life was in the town of Farmington, where he was born on December 9th, 1858.

He was married, January 10, 1881, to Miss Carried Haynes of Macedon, who survives him. Mr. Padgham was a prosperous farmer, a member of the South Perininton Cemetery Association and a helpful member of the Farmington Grange. He had a fine tenor voice and often sang in church choirs. Mrs. Padgham also has musical ability and they have been in frequent demand upon occasions when music was desired, having sung at more than two hundred funerals.

Besides his wife, Mr. Padgham is survived by one son, Gilbert Padgham of Farmington, three brothers, Albert of Farmington, Henry of Victor and Gilbert of Grand Ledge, Mich., one sister, Mrs. Joseph Tuttle of Tuttle's Station, Farmington, and four grandchildren, Jennie, Elizabeth, Leonard and James, all of Farmington.

Funeral services were held at the family home at 2:30 o'clock, Monday afternoon, and at 3 o'clock at the South Perinton Methodist

church. Rev. James W. Allatt of Victor officiated, assisted by Rev. E. A. Mathews of Perry, a former pastor of the South Perinton church. Interment was made in the South Perinton cemetery.

+ Unknown Paper Sept 27, 1917 - Mrs. Anne E. HERENDEEN - We read with regret of the death of Mrs.. Anne E. HERENDEEN, relict of Durfee HERENDEEN, which occurred at her home in the township of Farmington, at 1:45 o'clock on Sunday afternoon. She was aged 75 years.

Mrs. HERENDEEN was born in the township of Farmington during the year of 1841, her parents being pioneer settlers in this section. She is survived by a son, Louis D. HERENDEEN of Farmington; a grandson, Howard HERENDEEN of Canandaigua; two sisters, Mrs. Sarah CRANDALL of Canandaigua, and Mrs. Abbie WHITE of Brockport, and a brother, John SMITH of Rochester. The funeral services were held from her late home on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock.

+ Unknown Paper - Sudden Death of Mrs. A. E. S. HERRENDEEN at her Sister's Home - Victor, Sept 24. - Mrs. Anna E. SMITH HERRENDEEN, aged 75 years, died suddenly at 1:30 o'clock Sunday morning at the home of her sister, Mrs. Nellie CRANDALL of Canandaigua, where Mrs. HERRENDEEN went for a visit on Saturday. Mrs. HERRENDEEN was, in her girlhood, Anna E. SMITH. Her husband, the late Durfee HERRENDEEN, passed away several years ago, at the HERRENDEEN homestead, a landmark, situated in the town of Farmington, about four miles east of Victor, where nearly their entire married life had been passed.

She is survived by one son, Lewis D. HERRENDEEN of Farmington; one grandson, Howard D. HEREENDEEN and one great grandson, Edward Lewis HERRENDEEN, both of Canandaigua; also two sisters, Mrs. Nellie CRANDALL of Canandaigua and Mrs. A. T. WHITE of Fairport, and one brother, J. Q. SMITH of Rochester. The funeral services will be held Tuesday, in charge of Rev. Reuben PAYNE of Farmington. Interment will be made in the family lot in South Farmington Cemetery.

+ Unknown Paper - Mrs. Anna HERENDEEN, widow of the late Durfee HERENDEEN, a former resident of Manchester, died at her home in Farmington on Sunday, Sept. 23, at the age of 75 years. She was born in Farmington Township in 1841 and has always lived in this vicinity. The survivors are are a son. Louis D. HERENDEEN, of Farmington; a grandson, Howard HERENDEEN of Canandaigua, two sisters, Mrs. Sarah CRANDALL of Canandaigua, and Mrs. Abbie WHITE of Brockport; and a brother, John SMITH, of Rochester. The funeral was held from her home at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon.

+ Unknown Paper - Farmington - Mrs. Anna E. HERENDEEN died suddenly last Sunday morning at the home of her sister, Mrs. Nellie CRANDALL of Canandaigua, where she had gone on Saturday for a visit. Although she was not in the best of health, her sudden demise came as a shock to her friends and relatives. She was born in this town, Dec. 25, 1842, and was the widow of Durfee HERENDEEN, who died several years ago. Nearly their entire married life was spent on the old HERENDEEN homestead at Woodworths corners,, about 3 miles southwest of this village. Since her husband's death, Mrs. HERENEDEEN had resided with her son, Lewis D. HERENDEEN. She was a woman who had many friends, beloved for her estimable character and amiable qualities. she is survived by her son, one grandson, Howard D. HERENDEEN, one great grandson, Edward Lewis HERENDEEN, both of Canandaigua; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie CRANDALL of Canandaigua and Mrs. Artemus T. WHITE of Fairport, and one brother, John Q. SMITH of Rochester. The funeral was held from her late home in this town, Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Reuben J. PAYNE. Interment was in the South Farmington cemetery.

+ Unknown Paper - Oct 9, 1917 Victor - Sept 29 - The death of Mrs. Anna E. HERENDEEN occurred suddenly, Sunday morning, Sept. 23rd, at 1:30 o'clock at the home of her sister, Mrs. Nellie CRANDALL in Canandaigua. Mrs. HERENDEEN went from her home in Farmington, Saturday, to make her sister a visit, and whiles her health was not of the best, her sudden death was a great shock to her relatives and friends. Mrs. HERENEDEEN was was born in Dec 25, 1842. she was the widow of Durfee HERENDEEN, and nearly their entire married life was spent on the old HERENDEEN homestead, a well known landmark in the town of Farmington, about 4 miles east of Victor. Since her husband's death, several years ago, Mrs. HERENDEEN had lived on the old farm with her only son L. D. HERENDEEN. She was a woman of fine character and beloved by a wide circle of friends. Besides her son, Mrs. HERENDEEN is survived by a grandson, Howard D. HERENDEEN and great grandson, Edward Lewis HERENDEEN, both of Canandaigua; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie CRANDALL of Canandaigua and Mrs. A. T. WHITE of Fairport, and a brother, J. Q. SMITH of Rochester. Funeral services were held at the homestead, Tuesday afternoon in charge of Rev. Reuben PAYNE, of the Friends faith, and a close friend of the family. Interment was in the family lot in the South Farmington cemetery.

MARRIAGE - GERLACH - PENOYER - Hobert GERLACH of Farmington, and Miss Minnie PENOYER, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. John C. PENOYER, of Cheshire, were married at the Baptist parsonage in Canandaigua on Wednesday afternoon, Dec 19, by the Rev. George E. FINLAY. Mr. & Mrs. Ernest KEISTER were the attendants, and immediately after the ceremony, Mr. & Mrs. GERLACH left for a short wedding trip. Their many friends join in extending best wishes and hearty congratulations to this popular young couple.

ALLEN - Mrs. Jennie ALLEN, wife of Ellery G. ALLEN, died at the family home in Farmington, about 9 o'clock Sunday evening, January 27th. Mrs. ALLEN was a daughter of Ichabod and Catherine Case BRIGGS, and was born in the town of Arcadia, August 1, 1845. When she was a small child, her parents moved to Macedon, where she lived until her marriage, April 14, 1870, to Ellery G. ALLEN, who survives her. She is also survived by two daughters, Mrs. Frank HAW.... (cut off) (buried in North Farmington Cemetery)

GEORGE WILLIAM GRINNELL

George William Grinnell died at the advanced age of 84 years at his home in Farmington, last week Wednesday (6th) afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Mr. Grinnell had been a resident of Farmington practically all his life. He was the son of Morris and Margaret Grinnell, and was born in the house where he died, on September 4, 1833. He is the last of nine children. In 1860 he was married to Miss Elizabeth Bauschur at Newark. Returning to Farmington, they commenced housekeeping in an old pioneer log house, owned by George Mayo, where they lived for some years.

Besides his wife, he leaves five daughters, Mrs. Hart Gillis, Mrs. William Powers, and Mrs. William Webster, all of Farmington, Mrs. James Gillis of Victor, and Mrs. Zack Boswell, of Canandaigua, and one son, George Grinnell, Jr., of Farmington. There are also nineteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The funeral services were held at the family home at 2 o'clock on Saturday afternoon, Rev. Reuben Payne, Quaker minister of Farmington, officiating. The interment was made in the Hixsite cemetery in Farmington.

Lloyd Kotteker, of the U. S. Army, who is a member of the Ammunition Train, returned to camp on Thursday, following an extended furlough at his home in Chapin and in Shortsville. He was seriously injured about Christmas time by being thrown from an auto truck that was struck by a railroad train, demolishing the truck and instantly killing the driver. He was confined to a hospital for many weeks as a result of the injury to his back. He has been offered an honorable discharge by Uncle Sam, but the young man refuses to give up the service. A number of young people from this village were entertained at his home in Chapin last Friday evening, at a party given by his mother in his honor.

+ Farmington - April 1 - The death of Mrs. Mary A. Browning HERENDEEN occurred last week, Monday, March 25, at her late home. Mrs. HERENDEEN was the daughter of Joseph Morey BROWNING and Mary Stone BROWNING. The MOREY ancestors built the ship, Constitution, from which the poem, "Old Ironsides at Anchor Lay in the Harbor of Mahon," was founded. She was born in Coxsackie on March 20, 1836, and was 82 years old. She was untied in marriage to James W. HERENDEEN, who died in 1875. His funeral was held 43 years ago on the same day of the same month upon which Mrs. HERENDEEN'S was held. She is survived by seven children, Rev. James Hallett HERENDEEN, pastor of the Episcopal church at Honeoye Falls; Mrs. Mary S. CALKINS of East Bloomfield; Mrs. Edson MC LOUTH of this town; Miss Josephine Mc LOUTH of this town; Miss Jane Effie HERENDEEN of New York city; Joseph M. B. HERENDEEN and Richard HERENDEEN of this town, and 25 grand children. The funeral was held at her late home on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Herbert L. GAYLORD, pastor of the Episcopal church of Canandaigua. Interment was made in the North Farmington cemetery.

+ Obituary (stamped Mar 28, 1918) - Mrs. Mary Alice HERENDEEN died at her home in Farmington, Monday afternoon, March 25, 1918, aged 82 years. She is survived by three sons, Rev. James H. HERENDEEN of Honeoye Falls, and Richard and Joseph both of Farmington; four daughters, Mrs. Mary S. CAULKINS, East Bloomfield, Mrs. Edison MC LOUTH, Misses Josephine M. and Jane E. of Farmington; also a brother, John A. BROWNING, and a sister, Frances M. BROWNING, also of Farmington. The funeral was held from the late home this afternoon. Burial in the Friends Cemetery.

+ Mrs. Mary A. Browning HERENDEEN died at her late home , Monday afternoon of last week, aged 82. She is survived by 7 children, Rev. James Hallet HERENDEEN, pastor of the Episcopal church at Honeoye Falls, Mrs. Mary S. CALKKINS of East Bloomfield, Mrs. Edson MC LOUTH of this town, Miss Josephine who resides at home, Miss Jane Effie HERENEDEEN of New York City and Joseph M. B. and Richard HERENDEEN of this town and 25 grandchildren. The funeral was held at her late home on Thursday afternoon.

The death of Mary Alice Herendeen, widow of the late James Wilkinson Herendeen, occurred at her home in Farmington on Monday, March 25th. Mary Alice Browning was born in Coxsackie on March 20th, 1836. She was brought up in New York City, moving in 1858 to the house in Farmington where she died. She was married to James Wilkinson Herendeen in 1860 in Zion church, Palmyra, of which she has been a communicant for 60 years. She lived at Brownsville, in the town of Farmington, from 1865 to 1891. Mrs. Herendeen was greatly interested in the building and maintenance of the Church of the Good Shepherd, in Victor, and she and her family are well known by the older residents of this section. Mrs. Herendeen is survived by seven children, Rev. James Hallett, rector of St. John's church in Honeoye Falls, Mary Sophia Calkins, of East Bloomfield, Elizabeth Vania, Mrs. Edson McLouth, Josephine Morey, Jane Eflie, Joseph Morey Browning, and Richard Wilkinson, all of the town of Farmington, by 25 grandchildren, and by a brother and a sister, John N. and Miss Frances M. Browning, of Farmington. Funeral services were held at the home Thursday afternoon, Rev. Dr. Gaylord of Canandaigua officiating. Interment was made in the Friends burying ground at North Farmington.

OBITUARY - Samuel R. Mason, a prominent business man of this place, died at his home on Canandaigua Street, Monday, December 9, 1918, aged 69 years. Mr. Mason had been in failing health for several years. Mr. Mason came to Palmyra from Farmington in 1884, where his early life was spent. Although of a quiet retiring disposition, Mr. Mason had many friends who will greatly miss him. He was for many years associated with George Bennett in the produce business, and owing to ill health retired from business about one year ago. Beside his wife he leaves a son, Edward Mason, and a daughter, Mrs. A. K. Lansing of Cambridge, N. Y., also five grandchildren, Dorothy and Gardner Mason, and Arthur, Samuel and Elizabeth Lansing. The funeral was held from the late home Wednesday afternoon, Rev. G. H. Hubbard officiating.

Mrs. Mary Tuttle HERENDEEN, entered into rest on Wednesday, April 16, 1919, at 5:30 a.m., at the family home in the town of Farmington. She was aged 58 years, 10 months, and 26 days. She has been in poor health for the past two years. Mrs. Mary A. Tuttle HERENDEEN was a daughter of Anson and Amanda Smith TUTTLE and was born on May 20, 1861, in the town of Farmington. On February 23, 1887, she was united in marriage to Charles W. HERENDEEN. To them were born 6 children, Mrs. Elizabeth MC LOUTH of Farmington; Mrs. Mabel HOWLAND of Manchester; Edward HERENDEEN of Farmington; Mrs. Ruth CASWELL of East Rochester, Miss Anna HERENDEEN and Dewey HERENDEEN of Farmington.

Besides the six children and her husband, Charles W. HERENDEEN, she leaves two brothers, Joseph TUTTLE and Richard TUTTLE of Farmington. She attended school in Perry, NY and united with the Presbyterian Church in the same place. The funeral services will be held at her late home this Friday afternoon, at 2 o'clock and will be private. They will be conducted by the Rev. Reuben PAYNE and the interment will be made in the South Farmington cemetery.

Mrs. Elizabeth HERENDEEN, widow of Wilkinson HERENDEEN of Farmington, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry MULLIGAN in Rochester on Sunday morning at the advanced age of 82 years.

Mrs. HERENDEEN was born in Ontario, Wayne county, on September 16, 1837, a daughter of the late Elanson and Elizabeth Stewart GOODNOW. She was married on February 10, 1858, to Wilkinson HERENDEEN ,and went to Farmington to make her home. She lived in that township until after Mr. HERENDEEN'S death, during the year of 1910, when she went to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. MULLIGAN in Rochester. She was the sole survivor of a family of ten children.

Besides Mrs. MILLIGAN, she leaves another daughter, Mrs. Murray N. MASON of Shortsville and one son, Charles W. HERENDEEN, of Farmington; also 9 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

A prayer service was held at the MULLIGAN home in Rochester on Tuesday afternoon, after which the remains were brought to the South Farmington Chapel, where the funeral services were held. The Rev. Robert J. DRYSDALE officiated. The interment was made in the family plot in the South Farmington Cemetery.

Shortsville - Dec. 30. The marriage of Mr. Charles W. HERENDEEN and Miss Stella PADGHAM, both of Farmington, too place at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert PADGHAM, in that town at 2 o'clock this afternoon. Mr. HERENDEEN is a well known resident of this vicinity, a brother of Mrs. Murray N. MASON of Shortsville and Mrs. Harry MULLIGAN of Rochester. The bride is a trained nurse. After a wedding trip, Mr. and Mrs. PADGHAM (error, should be HERENDEEN) will reside in Farmington.
