Besides her husband, she is survived by twelve children, John, Clement and Leo, of Rochester, Charles of Geneva, Arthur of Macedon, Albert of Shortsville, James, Francie and Howard of Victor, Mrs. Julia Tobin of East Bloomfield, Mrs. D. S. McMillan of Long Island, Mrs. Earl Broderick of Victor, 37 grandchildren and one great grandchild, two sisters and one brother, Mrs. John Driscoll of Lima, Mrs. Charles Broomfield of Shortsville, and John O'Rourke of Rochester.

+ ROWLEY - Herbert ROWLEY, a former resident of Victor, passes away at his home in East Randolph, NY, Saturday, January 13, 1934, in his 83rd year. Mr. ROWLEY had been in very poor health for some time, his condition being partly due to injuries received in an automobile accident. He retained his interest in Victor and was an interested reader of the Herald. The surviving relatives are a daughter, Miss Edith ROWLEY of Meadville, Pa.; a son, Ernest ROWLEY of Jamestown, and a sister, Miss Leilah H. ROWLEY of Pasadena, Calif. Funeral services were held form his late home, January 16th.

+ TUTTLE - Edna Irene TUTTLE, 13 years old, entered into rest at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William W. TUTTLE, Monday, January 15, 1934, after a painful illness of more than two years. Besides her parents, she is survived by two sisters and five brothers; Theodore, Mildred, Waldo, Lillian, Frederick, Arthur and Richard. Edna was born in South Portland, Me., where Mrs. TUTTLE'S family still lives. Private funeral services were held from the home, Wednesday afternoon and burial was made in the Boughton Hill cemetery.

+ The birthday anniversary of Joseph FARRELL, formerly local chief of police, was pleasantly observed, Sunday, at the home of his sister, Mrs. Eugene WILKINSON, where Mr. and Mrs. FARRELL and their daughter, Madeline, were dinner guests. Mr. FARRELL who has been in poor health for some time, was able to enjoy the family gathering.

+ Miss M. Ruth O'NEILL entertained Mrs. Julia GARLICK, Miss M. Dorothy O'NEILL, who teaches near Honeoye and Donald GARLICK, at Sunday dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carl D. SMITH, with whom she is making her home. Miss O'NEILL is taking a course in typewriting at the Canandaigua Business school.

+ The 5th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur PULSE of Rochester was pleasantly celebrated Tuesday evening, January 16, 1934, at t the home of Mrs. PULSE'S parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. T. BENNETT, were 25 friends of the couple congregated for a surprise visit. The guests who came from Rochester, Shortsville, Honeoye Falls, Canandaigua and Victor, brought gifts appropriate to the "wooden wedding" and refreshments which were served at 11 o'clock. Cards furnished entertainment.

+ Cornelius James PEER, for several years superintendent of the Locke Insulator factory, passed away at his home on Maple avenue, aged 33 years.

+ Help was scarce and good men were demanding from $25 to $30 per month and board, for farm work.

+ A team driven by Charles BLAZEY, Jr., dashed from the drinking fountain across the street and crashed into one of the large plates of glass windows of the Gallup Block.

+ On March 7th, Victor Grange held its last meeting in Valentown Hall. Victor Village had been chosen as the future meeting places, as Victor and Mertensia Granges were about to consolidate.

+ Hiram T. WILCOX returned home Saturday, after having been in the Thompson Memorial hospital from Thursday afternoon, suffering from the effects of having been overcome by smoke while helping to fight the fire that gutted the K of C building in Canandaigua, that afternoon. Joseph LORTSCHER was kept at the hospital over Thursday night, also suffering from the effects of smoke.

+ Mr. and Mrs. William SCHRADER entertained at 6 o'clock dinner, Sunday, in honor of Warren SCHRADER who was confirmed with a class of nine, Sunday morning, at the Lutheran church in Pittsford. The dinner guests were Mr. and Mrs. Lewis SCHRADER, Miss Lena SCHRADER, Mr. and Mrs. Walter LEISTEN and family of Pittsford, Miss Blonda HERRMAN and Fred J. PETERS of Rochester and Herbert HERRMANN of Victor.

+ Twenty two minutes after Hobart College students reported to Geneva police that some of their fraternity houses had been burglarized, a "magazine salesman", was arrested near Canandaigua sub-station of the state police and admitted the thefts. Keep the stranger salesmen out of your houses and place your magazine orders with the Victor Herald Subscription Agency. (my note - I wonder if this was done just to get more subscriptions for the newspaper and not a true story at all, since no names were published)

+ Mrs. George W. BOUGHTON and Fred E. BROWN, whose marriage will take place at the Macedon Universalitst church on Easter Sunday, have been the guests of honor at pre-nuptial events as follows: A tea and shower given by Miss Ruth C. EWER at her home on March 15th; a dinner party given by Mr. and Mrs. Frank A. EWER on March 28th and a large dinner party given by Mr. and Mrs. Carl BENNETT on March 29th.

+ The condition of Edward B. PHILLIPS, who is in the Thompson Memorial hospital for treatment for ulcers of the stomach, is improved and his steady progress toward recovery is expected. A blood transfusion was given, last Saturday, with his brother, Raymond, as donor of the fluid. Five examinations were made of those who offered to supply the blood and another brother, Charles and a sister, Mariah, were found to be acceptable in case another transfusion in thought desirable in order to hasten recovery.

+ The first loan secured in Ontario county from the Home Owners' Loan association, has been granted to Melvin COHICK of this village on his home on School street.

The surviving relatives are a daughter, Miss M. Elizabeth McMahon of Victor, four sons, J. Milton of Fairport, Charles J. of Rochester, William H. and Jerome E. of Victor, six grandchildren, H. Madeline and J. Milton, Jr., of Fairport, Charles J. II, of Rochester, Betty and Bernice and Mary L. McMahon of Victor, two sisters, Mrs. Mary McCrofie and Mrs. Frank Haney, and one brother, Thomas McMahon, all of Victor.

Romeyn W. Brace Of Pioneer Family Dies In 88th Year

Romeyn Williams Brace, a lifelong and well known resident of Victor, passed away at his home on East Main Street, Saturday, April 28, 1934, in his 88th year. Mr. Brace had been ill for several years, suffering from an incurable heart trouble which had confined him to his home for three years and four months preceding his death.
He was a patient, even a cheerful, invalid, and when able to see his friends they found him a very interesting conversationalist, his reminiscences of his long life here being both informative and entertaining.
Born in Victor, November 30, 1846, Mr. Brace was the son of Thomas Beach and Margaret Jackson Brace, and a descendant of a family that became identified with Victor in 1793, when his great grandfather, Elisha Brace, and family came here from Stockbridge, Mass. The pioneer was accompanied by his father Joseph Brace, and his brothers and sisters. Four square miles of land in this town were secured by the family, which has been represented here ever since. Major Williams Brace, a son of Elisha and grandfather of Romeyn Williams Brace, served in the War of 1812, and remained in military service until 1826, when he resigned his commission and returned to his farms on Brace Street.
Romeyn Williams Brace also followed the occupation of farming in this township, as the three preceding generations had done. In 1875, his father and he purchased a hardware store in this village, later adding farm machinery, and he continued in business until 1904. He then became a representative of the Hydraulic Press Manufacturing Company of Ohio, and followed the occupation of salesman until ill health forced him to retire.
He married, December 11, 1867, to Miss Mary Emeline Alverson, who passed away September 21, 1930. During his declining years, Mr. Brace was given devoted care by his daughter, Mrs. Birdella Brace Longyear, who survives him, together with a son, Romeyn T. Brace, also of Victor. Another son, Leon W. died December 27, 1906.
Private funeral services at the family home, Monday afternoon, were conducted by the Rev. Nelson L. Lobdell of the Universalist faith, with which Mr. Brace and his family have for generations been affiliated. Burial was made in Boughton Hill Cemetery.

FLYNN - Mrs. Anna FLYNN entered into rest Tuesday, June 19, 1934. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. William GARLICK of Victor, N. Y.; one son, William FLYNN of Fishers Station; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will take place from her home Fishers Station, on Friday morning at 8:30 o'clock and at 9 o'clock from St. Patrick's Church, Victor, N. Y. Interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

40 Years Ago: Extensive improvements were being made in E. S. BERRY'S flour mill.

+ A 4th of July celebration at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank S. GALLUP was attended by about 140 persons, ranging in age from 1 to more that 70 years.

+ Dr. A. M. MEAD was vice president of a newly organized training school for nurses in connection with Dr. BEAHAN'S hospital in Canandaigua.

+ A reception was held at the home of Dr. MEAD in honor of William G. BROWN, who was going to Monroe, Orange County, after having made his home with his brother, C. L. BROWN, for several years.

+ Sellick SMITH, for 14 years a popular conductor on the Auburn branch, had been made depot master in Rochester.

20 Years Ago: Norman GOURLAY died July 2nd, at the home of his son, Mark C. GOURLAY, in Farmington.

10 Years Ago: Miss Estelle L. GUINAN of Mertensia and Howard M. LYNAUGH of Canandaigua, had been married June 28th, in St. Patrick's Church here.

+ Miss Lillian ROSE, who has been seriously ill with rheumatism for two weeks past, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest ROSE, is greatly improved.

+ Walter J. LEARY and family will move, October 1st, from W. F. KEATING'S house adjacent tot he bank building, to the GUNNISON house on East Main street, now owned by E. J. EISENMANN.

+ Miss Anna NOWACK returned home Tuesday, after having been in Thompson Memorial hospital in Canandaigua for about a week for observation and treatment. Her condition is somewhat improved.

+ R. L. HULBURT, who had his tonsils removed at the Thompson Memorial hospital in Canandaigua, last week Thursday, has recovered sufficiently to be on part time duty in the State Bank of Victor during the past few days.

+ Mrs. James COLLIGAN, who has been ill for several weeks, suffering from optic neuritis, was taken to Thompson Memorial hospital in Canandaigua, Monday morning for treatment. She is reported as slowly improving.

+ Miss Hester C. WALLACE of the Victor High School faculty, is improving after having suffered from a severe attack of asthma. Her sister, Mrs. De Forrest MILLS of Seneca Falls, has been with her at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. R. CORNFORD, during a part of her illness. Mrs. C. A. MOORE is acting as substitute teacher.

+ Mr. and Mrs.. C. A. MOORE and Mr. and Mrs. L. A. RUGG spent Sunday in Corning.

+ Rev. and Mrs. John C. MABUCE of Corning were luncheon guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. MOORE, Monday.

+ Mrs. Menzo VAN VOORHIS and Mrs. O. L. POLHEMUS gave a 1 o'clock bridge luncheon at the home of Mrs. VAN VOORHIS, Tuesday.

+ Mrs. Carl D. SMITH and Miss M. Ruth O'NEIL visited Mrs. SMITH'S mother, Mrs. M. A. HARRIS in Perry, over Thursday night.

+ Miss Williamine HILL, for several years a teacher in the Caledonia High School, is taking a course of study at the Rochester School of Commerce.

+ Mr. and Mrs. E. B. PUTNAM of Laningsburg, Mich., and Hugh MOULTON of Ovid, were guests of their niece, Mrs. Winfred NELSON, over the weekend.

+ Mrs. Dana RANDLES of Ogdensburg was a weekend guest of Mrs. Raymond BREWER and family. On Sunday they motored to Elmira and visited some of their former classmates in Elmira College.

+ The state convention of the New York League of Women Voters is to be held at the Hotel Seneca in Rochester, November 21 - 23rd. Mrs. Stafford WARREN, Monroe county chairman, and Mrs. Alfred G. LEWIS of Geneva, regional director, are the hostesses.

+ Miss Mary E. GUINAN of Rochester, John W. GUINAN of Honeoye Falls, Mrs. Emmet KEEFE and son, Laurence, left Sunday night for Washington, DC, where on Tuesday morning, Laurence entered the Catholic University as a junior. The others of the party returned Wednesday night.

+ Mr. and Mrs. Francis MC CRONE of Niagara Falls, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. DAILEY of Pittsburgh and George MC CRONE of Detroit, were called to Fairport and Victor because of the death of their cousin, J. Milton MC MAHON of Fairport, and visited relatives here following the funeral, Wednesday morning.

J. Milton McMahon, Sr., eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. M. E. McMahon of Victor, and a native of this township, passed away Sunday evening, September 23, 1934, at his home in Fairport, where he had been engaged in business for 24 years. He was stricken Sunday, September 16th, with heart trouble, which was followed by an attack of pneumonia. Mr. McMahon was 57 years old. He was held in high esteem here in the town of his birth and in Fairport, where his mature years were mostly passed.

The surviving relatives are the widow, Mrs. Nellie Keefe McMahon, a daughter, Madeline, a son, J. Milton Jr., all of Fairport, a sister and three brothers, Miss Elizabeth McMahon, William H. and Jerome E. McMahon, of Victor, and Charles J. McMahon of Rochester. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning from the family home and from the Church of the Assumption in Fairport. Burial was made in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Victor.

OBITUARY- COLLIGAN

Mrs. Nellie Keefe Colligan, wife of James Colligan, passed away in the Thompson Memorial Hospital in Canandaigua, Friday afternoon, September 28th, 1934, after an illness of several weeks. The news of her death was a shock to her many friends here, as up to Thursday evening she had apparently been slowly improving. She had been in the hospital since the preceding Monday.

Nellie Keefe was born in Victor, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Keefe. She was married to James Colligan, May 18, 1916, and for about five years thereafter lived in Hemlock, and Shortsville, Mr. Colligan being Lehigh Valley station agent in those villages. They returned to Victor in 1921, and had since remained here. She was of a happy and friendly disposition, and will be missed by many friends, as well as in the bereaved home in which she was a deeply devoted wife and mother.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Colligan is survived by a son and a daughter, John D., and Jane E., by a brother, Peter V. Keefe of Phelps, and a sister, Mrs. W. S. Lyon, of Binghamton. Funeral services were held from the family home and from St. Patrick's church, Monday morning, and burial was made in St. Patrick's cemetery.

+ Mrs. Mary D. O'BRIEN, widow of John O'BRIEN, passed away at the home of her son, William, Thursday, September 27, 1934. She is survived by another son, James and by 3 grandchildren. Funeral services were held from the family home and from St. Patrick's church, Monday morning and burial was made in St. Patrick's cemetery.

+ Mrs. L. G. LOOMIS and daughter, Mrs. Robert Dudley COYE, entertained a few ladies at luncheon, Tuesday.

+ Donald JACOBS, son of Everett JACOBS, is carrying his left arm in a sling, having sustained a fracture of the collar bone, Tuesday, while playing.

+ Miss Marion JONES of the Victor High School faculty is quite ill at the home of Dr. and Mrs. W. B. CLAPPER, where she makes her home during the school week.

+ The faculty of Victor High School, Miss Sara M. HARRINGTON, Mr. and Mrs. Ira A. COREY, Mr. and Mrs.. Ralph N. BUTLER, Dr. W. B. CLAPPER, George W. HIGINBOTHAM and Mr. and Mrs. Max DUNN of Mendon, were among friends of Principal Carl PAYNE who attended the funeral of his father at Albion, Wednesday afternoon.

+ The pupils of Victor High School were dismissed at noon, Wednesday to permit the faculty to attend the funeral of Principal Carl PAYNE'S father, Mr. Irving PAYNE, at Albion.

+ E. B. CASE has sold the SIMPSON house on Coville Street, which he recently purchased, to Fred ALDRICH. Mr. ALDRICH and family have moved from the CAINE house on Maple avenue to their new home.

+ Mr. and Mrs. SIGRIST and daughter, Miss Ruth SIGRIST, will move from the former Ralph W. SMITH residence on High street, now owned by the Ladd estate, into Mrs. W. M. BOYNTON'S house on West Main street.

+ Five potatoes taken from one hill on the M. W. MC KEE place, tipped the scales at 4 pounds. Other hills that have been dug make nearly as good a showing and Mr. and Mrs. MC KEE expect to have a good crop of the tubers despite the drought.

+ A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. H. C. WEST of Geneva, Friday, September 21st. Mrs. WEST was formerly Miss Lucile MC KEE, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. W. MC KEE. On Monday, Mrs. MC KEE went to Geneva t o care for the other two sons and the two daughters of the WEST family, while the mother is in the hospital.

+ A large maple tree in the parking in front of William BLOODGOOD'S residence was removed, early this week, the trunk having become badly decayed. Many of the old trees along Main street are showing signs of waning vitality and must soon be taken down, wholly or in part, in the interest of public safety and for the benefit of (cut off)

+ Miss Gwendolyn GILLIS is taking the kindergarten teaching course at the Wheelock School in Boston.

+ Mr. and Mrs. Waldo MISNER of Rochester, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil MAINUS, Nellie CLOOS and Fred BOSTRICK of Knoxville, Pa., were Sunday guests of Mrs. Andrew MISNER and family.

+ Miss Viola HANSON and her son in law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph JORDEN, left Saturday for Marshall, Mich., after a 10 days visits with Mr. and Mrs. M. W. MC KEE and children. Mrs. HANSON is Mr. MC KEE'S sister.

+ Mrs. Homer JACOBS and son, Francis, motored home, Saturday, with Mr. and Mrs. Howard JACOBS of Albany, where they had been visiting the past week, after attending the JACOBS-HARRISON wedding in Manchester, Conn.

+ Doris C. ENGLISH and Isabelle J. ENGLISH are both students in the Morrisville Agricultural School, Doris having returned as a senior in the Home Economics Department and Isabelle having entered the school as a freshman.

+ Mrs. M. A. HARRIS of Perry, will return to her home, Saturday, after having been a guest of her daughter, Mrs. Carl D. SMITH, and family, for a week. Miss Mildred I. HARRIS of Rochester, and Perry, spent last Friday night here with her mother and sister.

+ Mrs. Leonard BROWNELL of Rochester called at The Herald office, Thursday, to renew the subscription of her aunt, Mrs. Elizabeth MUNSON, who was for many years a resident of Victor. Mrs. MUNSON who has long made her home with her niece, is in poor health.

+ Mrs. F. M. LOCKE will leave, tomorrow (Saturday) for a visit of a week or ten days with her son, Peer LOCKE, and family in Ravenna, Ohio. She will make the trip by motor, her son, James LOCKE and his family taking her to Erie, Pa., where her son, Peer, will meet her with his car.

+ Mrs. L. G. LOOMIS Jr., has returned from Nantucket Island, where she spent several weeks in company with Miss Bertha CONCANNON. Miss CONCANNON motored to Victor, bringing Mrs. LOOMIS home, and has now returned to Pittsburgh to resume her business duties there.

+ Captain William J. MOSHER of the US Marine Corps, and Mrs. MOSHER have been visiting the past two weeks, with the Captain's sister, Mrs. A. ASHDOWN. They left here Monday by motor for San Francisco, Cal., there to embark on the U.S.S. Chaumont, for a tour of duty in Shanghai, China.

MURRELL - Mrs. Lilla M. MURRELL of East Bloomfield, sister of Edgar PAGE of Victor, passed away Friday, October 5, 1934, after a long illness. She was 68 years old. Her husband, Cyrus A. MURRELL and a nephew, Remington PAGE of East Bloomfield are the other surviving relatives. Funeral services were held at the family home, Sunday afternoon and burial was made in the East Bloomfield Cemetery.

The surviving relatives are her mother, Mrs. Isabelle Bennett of Canandaigua, two daughters and a son, Mrs. Eugene C. Bradt of East Orange, N. J., Mrs. Roy E. Vollick and Arthur B. George, of Rochester, three sisters and a brother, Mrs. John V. Barry of Victor, Mrs. William Washburn of Honeoye Falls, Mrs. Charles Moore of Canandaigua and Allinson T. Bennett of Victor. Funeral services will be held, Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, from her home, 103 Savanah Street, Rochester. Burial will be made here in the Boughton Hill Cemetery.

+ Victor Man Killed in Car - Tractor Crash - Like a candle snuffed out, the life of Howard M. CROWLEY came to an abrupt close, shortly before 6 o'clock Friday afternoon, October 19, 1934, when a car crashed into the rear of his threshing rig in the Victor Rochester road about two miles west of Victor. On the way to his home in Farmington, after having finished a bean threshing job., Howard had stopped on the roadside, to hang warning lanterns on the rear of the thresher, and was crushed between his own machine and an automobile driven by Frank E. RUPERT of Geneva, 65 years old, who was accompanied by his wife. RUPERT said that he was blinded by the lights of an approaching truck and did not see the threshing rig. Frank YAHN and Elijah FRANCISCO, both of Victor, also with the thresher, escaped injury. Mr. and Mrs. RUPERT were slightly injured.

The surviving relatives are the widow, Mrs. Ruby Broderick CROWLEY; the father, Michael CROWLEY of Farmington; eight brothers and three sisters, John, Leo, and Clement of Rochester, Charles of Geneva, Francis and James of Victor, Albert of Farmington, Arthur of Macedon, Mrs. Julia TOBIN of Holcomb, Mrs. Daniel MC MULLEN of Long Island, Mrs. Earl BRODERICK of Macedon. Funeral services were held from the home and from St. Patrick's church in Victor, Monday morning. Burial was made in St. Patrick's cemetery.

+ 50 Years Ago - Mrs. William FITZGERALD and her two sons of Victor, were thrown from a wagon when their team of horses ran away. Mrs. FITZGERALD received injures from which she died the following day.

+ Mrs. Minerva ROWLEY, widow of Andrew ROWLEY, died in Battle Creek, Mich., Oct 15, (1894) at 93 years.

+ A Victor bartender was victimized by a stranger who borrowed $10 from him, leaving as security a horse and buggy, which proved to be the property of the owner of a Mendon livery stable.

30 Years Ago - George W. HILL of Victor has been engaged as rhetorical instructor at Canandaigua Academy.

+ Miss Minerva Marie NORTON and Wallace T. CARPENTER of Chicago were married Oct. 20th. (1914)

+ Mrs. Emmett WILKINSON picked and canned red raspberries during the last week in October.

+ Miss Isabelle GUNNISON and William F. MILLARD, were married October 19th (1924)

+ Dr. D. J. TILLOTSON, formerly of Victor, died in Rochester, October 22nd (1924).

+ THOMPSON - George J. THOMPSON, who was born in Fishers and spent his boyhood there, passes away in Rochester, Sunday, December 15, 1934, aged 49 years. He was employed by the Rochester lines of the New York State Railways for 30 years, having been a division superintendent and at the time of his death was an inspector. His father was station agent and also postmaster at Fishers, where the family lived for many years.

Mr. THOMPSON is survived by his widow, Mrs. Anna M. THOMPSON; by his mother, Mrs. Nellie THOMPSON; three sisters, Mrs. Frank BOWER of Forest Lawn, Mrs. C. J. ANDERSON of Lockport,, and Mrs. H. D. WOOD, of Bend, Ore., Mrs. WOOD is a sister in law of Charles and Dwight WOOD of Victor. Funeral services were held from the family home in Rochester, Tuesday afternoon, and interment was made in Riverside cemetery.

+ MARLATT - Miss Jennie MARLATT, a cousin of Miss Estella and Ray C. VAN DENBERGH of Victor, and a lifelong resident of Honeoye Falls, passed away at her home Sunday, December 16th. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, the Rev. John DENNIS officiating.
