+ Obituary - SMITH - Mrs. Jennie B. SMITH, 56 years old, died at Baldwinsville, Sunday, January 1, 1939. She leaves her husband, Charles M. SMITH, two daughters, and a son, Mrs. Paul O'BRIEN of Liverpool, Miss Margaret SMITH and Bernard SMITH of Baldwinsville. Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Church in Baldwinsville at 8:30 Wednesday morning, the Rev. Father KIRCHEN officiating. Burial was made at Palmyra with the Rev. Father CROWLEY conducting services at the grave.
+ Mr. and Mrs. Henry BAILEY of Victor and Charles BAILEY of Honeoye Falls, attended the funeral of their sister, Mrs. Jennie SMITH at Baldwinsville, Wednesday morning.
+ Mrs. Rose JACOBS returned home last Friday night, after visiting her sister, Mrs. F. J. CAREY & Mr. CAREY, in Rochester, since Christmas Day.
+ Mrs. Harriet WEBSTER is spending this week visiting her sons, James WEBSTER and family of Cortland and John WEBSTER and family of Ithaca.
+ Miss Madeline HULBERT, who had been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. Leslie HULBERT, during the holidays, left Sunday for the Potamac State College at Keyser, W. Va.
+ Miss Ruth SAXBY returned to Albany, Sunday, to resume her studies at the Albany State Teacher's College, after spending the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John SAXBY.
+ Mrs. A. C. ALDRIDGE and daughter, Miss Caroline ALDRIDGE, returned home Monday morning, form New York City, where they spent the holidays with Dr. and Mrs. Albert H. ALDRIDGE and family.
+ Mr. and Mrs. Winfred NELSON and family and Mr. and Mrs. Howard SEAMANS and family attended a gathering of the SEAMANS family at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred WILLIAMS in Naples, New Years Day.
+ Mr. and Mrs. Robert WEBSTER, who spent Christmas holidays with her relatives in Edmeston, visited his mother, Mrs. Harriet WEBSTER and sister, Mrs. Arthur ALLEN and Mr. ALLEN, several days of last week.
+ Mr. and Mrs. Roy H. OUTTERSON and son, Hugh, moved from their home in Caledonia to Rochester, Monday, for the balance of the winter, in order that Mr. OUTTERSON may not be obliged to commute during severe weather.
+ Mr. and Mrs. Francis HENEHAN, who have been spending the holidays with their parents, Mrs. Mary HENEHAN and family and Mr. and Mrs. L. G. LOOMIS, and family, returned to their home in Bridge (cut off)

+ SCOTT - Mrs. Amelia A SCOTT, entered into rest, Friday, May 12, 1939. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. J. C. TOWNSEND of Rochester and Mrs. William PEARL of Victor; a son, William MIDDLEBROOK of Rochester; several grandchildren. Funeral services took place Monday morning, from the home of Mrs. PEARL and from St. Patrick's church. burial was made in St. Patrick's cemetery.
+ Kathryn FITCH To Enter National Finals - Kathryn FITCH, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson FITCH of Rushville and granddaughter of Mrs. W. of WOOLSTON of Victor, received a rating in the State High School Music Association competition at Snyder, Saturday, which entitles her to entrance in the national finals in New York City, May 25-27. Kathryn, who is 16 years old, was given a superior rating on the solo selections, "The Crying Waters" and "The Cuckoo." Her mother, the former Alice WOOLSTON of Victor, accompanied her on the piano. Besides instrumental and vocal instruction in the Rushville Central school, Kathryn has lessons from Clyde MILLER of Rochester. She sings in the the school chorus and girls' trio, is soprano soloist in the Methodist church choir and was accepted for the all state choir which met in Ithaca last December. She plays baritone with both the Rushville nad Gorham Central school bands. Kathryn plans to attend the national finals, accompanied by her parents and music instructor in the Rushville school, Miss Ursula DUNBAR.
+ R. H. OUTTERSON Will Retire Soon - Announcement is made that Roy Hugh OTTERSON of Caledonia, will in July, relinquish his work as director of teacher employment and certification in the Rochester Board of Education, a position which he has held for 18 years. He has been connected with the Rochester public school system for nearly a third of a century, and is also a former principal of the Geneseo Normal School and a member of the Caledonia Board of Education.
Mr. OUTTERSON and Mrs. OUTTERSON, the former Anne HIGINBOTHAM of Victor, are both accomplished musicians, and he plans to spend his new leisure largely in the enjoyment of that art, in gardening nad in traveling with his family. Caledonians rejoice that the family will continue to occupy their pleasant home in that village and many friends in Victor hope they will frequently return to Mrs. OTTERSON'S home town for a renewal of contacts here.
+ Mrs. John LAUDER Happily Surprised - Mrs. John W. LAUDER was pleasantly surprised on Sunday (Mothers' Day), when her 7 daughters and their families and her son and his family, gathered at her home. Mr. and Mrs. George NEWTON of Rochester were also present. The party included 20 of Mrs. LAUDER'S 24 grandchildren, four of whom are away in school. A tureen dinner was served to the group of 39 persons.

+ Miss Clara FISHER is still in the Strong Memorial hospital in Rochester for eye treatment.
+ E. T. MALONE who has been ill for some time, is now improved and is able to sit out on the upper porch of his home on Maple avenue.
+ George HIGINBOTHAM, who is in the Thompson Memorial hospital in Canandaigua, is reported as making good progress toward recovery.
+ Mr. and Mrs. Lewis BLEIER Jr., will be entertained by friends in Rochester, Saturday, in honor of their 14th wedding anniversary.
+ Mrs. Lewis BLEIER entertained her mother, Mrs. Sadie LEVET of Fairport, Mr. BLEIER'S mother, Mrs. Lewis BLEIER Sr., of East Rochester, and Mrs. Dorothy QUNITER at the Mother and Daughter banquet, last Friday evening.
+ Sixty years ago, May 21st, the mercury stood at 90 degrees in the shade in Victor. Bumper crops of cherries, plums and pears were anticipated.
+ Mrs. Charles MILLITELLO Sr., returned home from the Thompson Memorial hospital in Canandaigua, Sunday morning. She is steadily improving.
+ Mary HAWKINS entertained tow of her schoolmates, Carolyn LORTSOBER and Mildred MC CARTHY at supper, Monday evening, in honor of her 9th birthday.
+ Mrs. A. E. COLLINS entertained her daughter, Mrs. Luther MOYER of Canandaigua, Mrs. Clifford COLLINS and daughter, Virginia, of Mendon and Annie JONES, at the Mother and Daughter banquet, Friday evening.
+ Mrs. A. C. REHME, who underwent an operation in the Thompson Memorial hospital in Canandaigua, recently, returned home Sunday, and is making good progress toward recovery.

+ Mrs. Fred LOCKE and Mrs. Eunice HALL were at the Locke cottage at Ashgrove on the west side of Canandaigua Lake, Friday and Saturday of last week.
+ Miss Ruth BEAL and Ernest BROWN visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harland BROWN of Mayfield, and her sister, Mrs. Stanley FRANKS in Albany, the past weekend.

+ Leslie J. ALDRIDGE returned home Monday morning, after spending last week in New York City, attending a Moral Rearmament citizens' meeting at Madison Square Garden.
+ Mr. and Mrs. John TEMPERATO and sons, Angelo and Junior, of Mt. Morris, called on Mr. and Mrs. Charles MILLTELLO Sr. and family, on Sunday. Mrs. TEMPERATO and Mrs. MILLTELLO are sisters.
+ Mr. and Mrs. Terry ALDRIDGE and daughter, Leora, and Mrs. ALDRICH'S mother, Mrs. Mary BORTLE, spend Sunday with their daughter, Mrs. Matthew GAFFNEY and Mr. GAFFNEY at LeRoy.

+ Miss Bertha CONCANNON of Pittsburgh, is expected to arrive at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie G. LOOMIS, Sunday, for an indefinite stay. Miss CONCANNON, who has been seriously ill, is now much improved.

+ Miss Rhoda ROOT left last Saturday for her home on Long Island, after visiting Mrs. Herbert ALLEN, (formerly Miss Grace BOWERMAN) and Mrs. Marion BOWERMAN and family, since last Thursday.
+ Miss Lillian ROSE of Rochester, formerly of Victor, visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest ROSE and friends in Victor. Saturday and Sunday, Miss ROSE is now employed by the Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester.
+ Mr. and Mrs. Frank LOGAN and children, Lena, Katherine, and Dick, her mother, Mrs. Daisy BUNCE and son, Harold of Clifton Springs, Mr. and Mrs. William BUNCE and son, Billie, of Seneca Falls and Mrs. Mildred LOGAN of Canandaigua, motored to Letchworth Park, Sunday.

+ Friends and neighbors of Elias RICHARDSON gave him a surprise birthday dinner at his home, Wednesday.
+ Friends of Nelson BLAZEY of Macedon, formerly of Victor, will regret to hear that he is again on the sick list.
+ Mrs. Margaret SULLIVAN and family have moved from an apartment in the Frank Eisenmann block, to the TOBIN residence on East Main St.
+ Miss Clara B. FISHER, who has been in the Strong Memorial hospital in Rochester for several weeks past, returned home Saturday, and is resting quite comfortably.
+ Miss Kathryn BURNS returned home from St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, last Thursday. She is improving from injuries received in an automobile accident several weeks ago.
+ Superintendent of Schools, Carl PAYNE and Mrs. PAYNE of Bath, formerly of Victor, are the parents of a son born Monday, May 29th, at the Bath Hospital. Mrs. PAYNE who was in a critical condition for a time, is now improving.
+ Miss Adelaide DURSTON of Skaneateles, her niece, Miss Adelaide J. DURSTON and a friend, Miss Verna WALKER, both of Buffalo, were luncheon guests of Miss DURSTON'S cousins, Mrs. William G. LANE and Mrs. Ellis BOUGHTON, last Saturday.
+ Word has been received by Mrs. Fred CLOVER from Mrs. Minnie MOORE of Wellsville, formerly of Victor, that she is much improved, following an illness of grippe since the 10th of May. Mrs. MOORE was planning to be in Victor, Memorial Day, but was unable t come here.

TEACHER DIES AT AGE OF 75
Victor - Death Tuesday night, claimed Miss Sara M.
HARRINGTON, 75, retired school teacher and poetess, who for the past
54 years endeared herself to residents through her contact with pupils at
the Victor High School where she taught history and German, and was also
librarian for nearly half a century.
She came to Victor from Dansville where she had taught one year and was a
graduate of Genesee State Normal School. She accepted a position at the
Victor Union School 49 years ago and was made preceptress of the school 45
years ago. Since that time the name of the Victor Union School has been
changed to Victor High School. She retired from the local teaching
position five years ago and continued to make her home with Miss
Mary DRAPER in West Main Street. Her time was filled to great
extent with her poetry work and each Commencement Week she composed a poem about
the members of the current senior class and read it at commencement ceremonies.
In the past two years she had compiled a book of her work and copies were
given to the graduating class.
Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Presbyterian
Church. The Rev. Raymond E. DRONSFIELD will
officiate. Burial will be in Palmyra Cemetery.

Looking Backward - 20 Years ago: 1919
+ Several accidents occurred during the week, September 8 - 12. Frank PARILLA was seriously injured when he fell from a ladder. Edward PHILLIPS caught the second finger of his right hand in a buzz saw. Clifford O'NEIL was thrown form a hose, and both bones of his right forearm were broken just above the wrist. William O'LEARY made a misstep, when descending a flight of stairs, and his left leg was fractured in two places below the knee.
+ Clarence H. UPTON, a former resident of Victor, died in a Rochester hospital, September 5th. (1919)
Looking Backward - 10 Years ago: 1929
+ Mrs. John CHISHOLM died, September 12th, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Louis CROWLEY.
About Town & Personals:
+ Mrs. Myron BOUGHTON and Mrs. Leon B. SMITH entertained at a 1 o'clock luncheon and variety shower today (Friday) in honor of Miss Mildred BOUGHTON.
+ Mr. and Mrs. Ira A. COREY and son, Leonard, who have been at their summer home on Canandaigua Lake during the summer months, returned to their home on West Main street, Monday.
+ Mr. and Mrs. R. O. WHITNEY and daughter, Mary Louise, returned to their home on West Main street, Monday, after having been at their summer home on Canandaigua Lake during the summer vacation.
+ Mr. and Mrs. Edward BAUER and family who have been occupying the east apartment over The Victor Herald office for several months past, have moved to Palmyra, to make their home with his father, Edward BAUER and family.
+ The men who wore color guard uniforms of the War of 1812 at the unveiling of the official landmark at the Ellsworth GREENE home on Boughton Hill, last week Thursday, were Frank A. PUGSLEY of Pittsford, Major Wheeler C. CASE and Hugh H. WILSON, both of Rochester.
+ Mr. and Mrs. C. A. PHILLIPS entertained at a family dinner party Sunday. those present included Mr. and Mrs. Warren ROOT and family, Mr. and Mrs. Charles PHILLIPS Jr., all of Rochester; Mr. and Mrs. Edward PHILLIPS and family, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond PHILLIPS and family, all of Victor.
+ Mrs. Fred KOHLHAGEN was pleasantly surprised Wednesday evening, August 30th, when Mrs. Nellie LEWIS, Mrs. Frank GUEST, Mrs. A. T. BENNETT, Miss Flora MURPHY and Mrs. Melvin COHICK, came to her home, bringing with them a cake and ice cream. The occasion was her 70th birthday.
+ Mrs. Florence MALLORY of Cleveland, Ohio, is spending a few days with her sister, Mrs. George KRATZENBERG.
+ Miss Eileen MURPHY of Chicago, Ill, as been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John MURPHY and family.
+ Mr. and Mrs. Leon PATTERSON and little son, Warren, of Rochester, called at the HAWKIN'S home, Monday.
+ Mr. and Mrs. Marvin UTTER of Rochester were guests of Mr. and Mrs. William COTTON and family, Monday.
+ Gerald RYAN of New York City is visiting his mother, Mrs. Mary RYAN and sister, Miss Theresa RYAN, this week.

+ Mrs. Harriet WEBSTER left Saturday for Silver Lake, to spend this week at the cottage of Mr. and Mrs. Elman WRIGHT and son, Donald, of Buffalo.
+ Mr. and Mrs. Herbert ALLEN and Mr. and Mrs. Reginald LAUGHLIN of Rochester were guests of their mother, Mrs. Marion BOWERMAN and family, Monday.
+ Roger GREENE, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ellsworth GREENE, began his studies at the Rochester Business Institute, Tuesday. He is taking a course in accountancy.
+ Mr. and Mrs. Fred BROWN were dinner guests Tuesday, of Mrs. Emma STEVENS of Lyons. Mrs. BROWN and Mrs. STEVENS were schoolmates at Macedon.
+ Rev. and Mrs. R. E. DRONSFIELD and daughter, Mary, are at home, following a 2 weeks vacation at Chautauqua and a 2 weeks stay in the Adirondack mountains.
+ Mrs. Arthur ROOT and son, Gordon, and Walter BOUGHTON, attended the air races at Cleveland, Oh. They left Victor on Saturday morning and returned home Monday night.
+ Mr. and Mrs. Charles JACOBS returned to their home in Boston, Mass., Tuesday, after having spend several weeks with Mr. JACOB'S parents, Mr. and Mrs. Homer JACOBS and brother, Francis.
+ Miss Elizabeth BARTHOLOMEW will return to Jackson, Mich., the latter part of the week, to resume her work as Girl Scout director, following a 3 weeks vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. W. BARTHOLOMEW.
+ The Misses Madaline LYONS, Rita BARRY, Elizabeth BARRY, Alice CONDON and Mary CROWLEY, spent the weekend at Camp Kennedy on Canandaigua Lake. On Sunday evening, Miss Eileen MURPHY and her sister, Bernadette, visited the group of girls.
+ Miss Marion PHILLIPS returned to Cornwall, Monday, to resume her duties as school nurse. Her sister, Miss Margaret PHILLIPS, returned to Smyrna, Monday, to resume her teaching duties, following the summer vacation at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. PHILLIPS.
+ Mr. and Mrs. Byron BLAZEY, Clifford LYONS, Marsden SALE, Mr. and Mrs. Everett BLAZEY of Canandaigua, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert WILKINSON of Egypt, spent last week fishing at the Thousand Islands. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd BLAZEY visited them on Friday and on Saturday, attended the Toronto Fair.
+ Mrs. Myron BOUGHTON, Mr. and Mrs. Leon B. SMITH and daughter, Lois, have been on a vacation trip through the New England States. They visited Rev. and Mrs. George KINNEY at Ellsworth Falls and Bar Harbor, Maine. The return trip was along the coast to Cape Cod and through Rhode Island and Connecticut.
+ John MC CARTHY and daughters, Marie and Alice & son, Jackie, attended the New York State Fair at Syracuse last Thursday.
+ Mr. and Mrs. Fred C. GREEN visited his cousin, Clarence TIMMERMAN, at Little Falls, from Saturday until Tuesday evening.
+ Miss Faith SMITH has returned to her home in Syracuse, following a week's vacation with her brother, Mrs. and Dr. Carl B. SMITH.
+ Miss Joan E. KEEFE, a member of the class of 1939 of Victor High School, entered St. Mary's training school for nurses in Rochester, Thursday.
+ Mr. and Mrs. Louis LOCKE, Mr. and Mrs. John BEERS and Dr. and Mrs. E. T. SHARP stayed at Mrs. Fred LOCKE'S cottage on Canandaigua Lake, over Sunday.
+ Mr. and Mrs. William SCHRADER and family called on Charles THIEL at Jordon, Sunday and also visited Mr. and Mrs. Elmer LANNING of Clyde, formerly of Victor.
+ Miss Mary G. KEEFE, who had been spending a week's vacation and the holiday at her home, has returned to Rochester, where she is employed by the Eastman Kodak Company.

+ Miss Mary DRAPER called at the home of Frank HULBERT and also on Mr. and Mrs. Fred TITUS, all formerly of Victor, while in Shortsville, Wednesday, to attend the county W.C.T.U. convention.
+ Mr. and Mrs. John SULLIVAN and daughter, Mary Catherine, of Indianapolis, Ind., have been spending ten days with their respective parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph MC CARTHY and Mrs. Katherine SULLIVAN of Rochester.

GALLUP - Mrs. Jennie Gillis GALLUP of Fairport, widow of the late Frank S. GALLUP, entered into rest, September 13, 1939, a little more than 6 weeks after the death of her husband. she lived in Victor for many years and was held in high esteem by many friends here. The surviving relatives are a daughter, Rose of Fairport; a son, George, of Rochester; and six grandchildren. Funeral services at the family home, 20 Avenue A., at 3 o'clock, Saturday afternoon. Burial will be made in the Boughton Hill Cemetery in Victor.

+ Mrs. Monroe GARDINER, who makes her home with her son, George M. GARDINER, and Mrs. GARDINER, is visiting her son, Byron GARDINER at LeRoy.
+ Mr. and Mrs. J. BROOKS and daughters of Ashville, NC, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. John HILL and family for several days, the first part of the week.
+ Mrs. Rose JACOBS attended the FAUGH family reunion Sunday, at the home of the Misses Emma and Anna GRAVES, at Rush. There were 22 present at the gathering.
+ Mr. and Mrs. George GARDINER Sr., and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond CLOVER and family visited Mr. and Mrs. George GARDINER Jr. and family at Warners, Sunday.
+ Mr. and Mrs. Josiah BROOKS and daughters, Allison and Marsha, of Asheville, NC were guests of Mr. and Mrs. John K. HILL and family, from Monday to Wednesday.
+ Mr. and Mrs. Edwin K. HAAS of Rochester toured through the New England States and visited the World's Fair during the Labor Day weekend and all of last week.
+ Basil BREWSTER, who has been visiting his mother, Mrs. Clara M. BREWSTER in Brownsville, left for his home in Tustin, Calif., September 3rd and arrived there September 9th.
+ Mrs. Fred GREEN, Mrs. Russell SIMONDS, Mrs. O. L. POLHEMUS, Mrs. R. O. WHITNEY and daughter, Mary Louise, were luncheon guests of Mrs. Emily CALWALLADER in Palmyra, Tuesday.
+ Mrs. I. B. STAFFORD and son, James, and daughter, Ann, Miss Marion JENKS and Donald MILLER of Syracuse, visited Mrs. STAFFORD'S parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl E. BUTTON, last Thursday.
+ Miss Lois WOOD, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carol O. WOOD of Victor, will return to Keuka College at the beginning of the college year, to continue her studies. Miss WOOD is a senior at Keuka.
+ Miss Ruth SAXBY drove up from Albany, Sunday, to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John SAXBY. On Tuesday afternoon, she went to Auburn for her friend, Miss Betty OSTROM, who is also employed in Albany.
+ The Misses Joan and Mary KEEFE spent the weekend with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emmet KEEFE, on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. William J. C. KLEM of Rochester were guests of Mr. and Mrs. KEEFE and Mr. KLEM gave a showing of (cut off)
In Surrogate's Court - Dr. William B. CLAPPER, Victor physician and one time supervisor of the town, left a gross estate of $25,824.99, transfer tax proceedings (cut off)
