+ GILLETTE - Fred E. GILLETTE, a former station agent at the NY Central depot at Victor, died Saturday, March 16, 1940 at St. Mary's hospital in Rochester, Minn., where he had been a patient for 3 weeks. He would have been 58 years old on March 18th. He had been in poor health for some time but attended to his duties as NY Central freight agent in Oakfield until shortly before he went to the hospital. After leaving Victor, Mr. GILLETTE served as agent at several different points on the NY Central before going to Oakfield, where he has been on duty for 7 years.

He is survived by his widow, Helen, two sons, Jack and Richard, 5 sisters and 2 brothers. Funeral services took place Tuesday in the Presbyterian church in Oakfield, Mich.

+ GARLING - Mrs. Lena GARLING, widow of Louis GARLING, passed away on March 20, 1940. Surviving are two sons and one daughter, Otto of Pittsford and Frederick GARLING of Fishers. Mrs. Mary KEUER of Railroad Mills; 9 grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Reka BOHEEN of Rochester. Funeral services will take place at her home in Fishers at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Interment will be in Pittsford.

+ WASHBURN - William WASHBURN of Victor, entered into rest Tuesday, March 19, 1940. He is survived by his wife (Helen), a daughter Mrs. Lester (Ellen) BILL of Canandaigua; 3 sons, Earl, Ira and William; a sister, Mrs. Lewis BARNUM; a brother, George WASHBURN and several grandchildren. Funeral services took place from the home this (Friday) afternoon.

SCHMIDT - John C. SCHMIDT of Fairport, brother of Lewis SCHMIDT of Fishers, died on March 17, 1940. He is survived by 3 sons, a daughter, 4 brothers, a sister & 7 grandchildren. Funeral services took place in Fairport, Thursday afternoon, and interment was made in Pittsford.

+ James STEVENS, brother in law of Charles BOWERMAN, is ill of pneumonia in Florida.

+ Miss Marion COMMISSO underwent an operation at the Thompson Memorial Hospital in Canandaigua, Thursday.

+ Mrs. Everette GARLOCK entertained 10 little guests in honor of her son's 10th birthday, last Thursday afternoon, March 14.

+ Mrs. Bert MC CLOSKEY is still confined to her home but is improved, following a fall at the home of her neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Edward PROSSER, recently.

+ Mr. and Mrs. H. R. BROWN, who have been living in the 2nd floor apartment of the Ralph BUTLER house on West Main street, moved on Monday to Farmington.

+ Mr. and Mrs. Roy SEAGER, Canandaigua, announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Joyce SEAGER to Stephen L. JONES, son of Mr. and Mrs. John JONES of Victor.

+ Mr. and Mrs. Roy KEEFE are moving into the upper flat in the Butler apartment house on West Main street. Mrs. KEEFE will operate a beauty parlor in that location.

+ Word received by Mrs. George HIGINBOTHAM from friends in St. Petersburg, Florida, announce that her father, Rev. A. M. SPANGLER is feeling improved following his recent hip injury.

+ Mrs. Eunice HALL is visiting friends at Valley Stream this week and over Easter.

+ Mrs. Elizabeth SKEA of Warsaw, visited Mrs. William MURRAY and family the past weekend.

+ Mrs. Francis ODERKIRK left last Friday for Florida where she will vacation for several weeks.

+ Mrs. George H. GUNNISON of Bristol was a guest of Mrs. F. M. LOCKE over the past weekend.

+ Ira A. COREY was in Oakfield, Mi., Tuesday, to attend the funeral of Fred E. GILLETTE, formerly of Victor.

+ Miss Mary BREWER and Wayne MOYER of Canandaigua spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. A. E. COLLINS.

He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Kesel of Victor, Mrs. Anna Denniston of Penn Yan, a brother, Albert Dunlap of Shortsville, several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted in the Methodist church, this Friday afternoon, with the Rev. A. C. Rehme officiating. Burial took place in Boughton Hill Cemetery.

Robert Kesel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Kesel of School Street, suffered a brain concussion, bruises, and cuts, late Sunday afternoon, when the motor scoot he was riding was crowded off the road by a passing automobile. Joe Sullivan, son of Mrs. Margaret Sullivan of East Main Street, was a passenger on the motor scoot.

Friends accompanied Bobbie to the house of Everett Edwards from which place he was later taken to his home. His condition is such that he will be obliged to remain in bed for at least this week.

WEDDING BELLS - KEEFE - KINGSLEY

An attractive mid-summer wedding took place in the rectory of St. Augustine's church in Rochester, Monday, July 15, 1940, when Miss Florence Kingsley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter R. Kingsley of Victor, became the bride of J. Maurice Keefe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Keefe of Victor. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. L. Emmett Davis.

The bride was attired in a white crepe redingote with white accessories, and wore a corsage of Tailisman roses. The bridesmaid, Miss Ruth Kingsley, sister of the bride, wore white sharkskin with matching accessories. Laurence Keefe was best man for his brother. The mother of the bride was gowned in blue silk print and wore a corsage of yellow roses.

Following the ceremony a luncheon was served at the home of the bride's parents. After a wedding trip through the Adirondacks and the New England States, Mr. and Mrs. Keefe will reside at 117 Barton street, Rochester.

FARRELL - Mrs. Grace M. Farrell, widow of Joseph Farrell, entered into rest suddenly at her home on East Main Street, Monday morning, September 2, 1940. Mrs. Farrell was born in Rochester, February 18, 1896, and had resided in Victor about 35 years.
The surviving relatives are two daughters, Esther and Madeline, and a son, Edward, all of Victor, two sisters, Mrs. Mildred Finnerty of Canandaigua, and Mrs. Gertrude Gielow of Rochester, three brothers, Archie and Howard Cuykendall, of Victor, and Earl Cuykendall of Rochester, several nieces and nephews. Funeral services took place from her home and from St. Patrick's Church. Burial was made in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

GARLICK - Mrs. Julia Flynn GARLICK, whose death was mentioned in last week's issue of The Herald, was born in Fishers in Victor township, 65 years ago. She passed most of her life in Fishers and Victor, bur during the past four years, had lived in Buffalo with her son, Donald, and part of the time with her daughter, Mrs. Thomas SNYDER of Blasdell. she died on August 22, 1940, at Waneka, NY, where she had been staying at a lake home for 10 weeks for the benefit of her health, after having returned from a hospital. Besides her daughter and son, Mrs. GARLICK is survived by a brother, William FLYNN of Fishers, and 3 grandchildren, Marie, Thomas and Catherine SNYDER. Funeral services were conducted here at the Sale & Cotton Funeral Home and from St. Patrick's church, August 26, and burial was made in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

GARLING - Frederick GARLING entered into rest at his home on Thornell Road in Pittsford, Wednesday, August 28, 1940. He is survived by his widow, Anna WEIGERT; two daughters, Mrs. Walter HOLDERMAN of Manchester; Mrs. Alfred BURKHARDT of Toledo; four sons, Lewis, Frederick, Clarence and Ernest, of Pittsford; 19 grandchildren; a brother, John; a sister, Mrs. Lena WATERSTRAW; several nieces and nephews. The funeral took place from his home, Saturday afternoon. Burial was made in Pittsford.

+ Philadelphia mint officials have said that nothing but coppers were turned out during July because of the demand for the pennies, the result of defense taxes. The mint is running 24 hours a day, sever days a week, and is still behind schedule. The superintendent of the mint has issued a call for 30 machinists as part of an expansion plan.

+ The Japanese Salvation Army has decided to sever all connections with the London organization, changing it's name to the Salvation Corps. A growing campaign in Japan to eliminate foreign financial aide and direction from Christian religious institutions, is termed by foreign clergymen as the reason for the action. Also in Japan, Rotary clubs continue their meetings, but have dropped the name Rotary in compliance with government requirements.

+ On Sunday, September 1, the New Jersey Child Labor Act became effective. The law limits employment of minors between 12 and 18 years of age, provides for an eight our day and a 40 hour week. No minor may be employed in a factory if under 16 years of age and none in a hazardous occupation if under 18 years of age. Working hours in factories must be arranged between 6 o'clock in the morning and 1o o'clock at night. No person under 18 years old may be employed where alcoholic beverages are sold

After coming to this country when a young man, Mr. Brady lived in Shortsville for a time. He was a farmer by occupation and after his stay in Shortsville he went to Mertensia in the town of Farmington. He was married to Mary Brady, and 11 children were born to them while they were living in Farmington. The oldest son, Edward, died in 1929 in Rochester, and the eldest daughter, Mary Brady Grant, died in 1928, in Rochester.

Mr. Brady and his family lived in Farmington until 1906, when they moved to Victor village. For a time he carried on the lighter work of being towerman at the crossing of the Lehigh Valley railroad on Maple avenue. He worked a 12 hour trick. Three years after moving to Victor village, he made a trip to Ireland.

When in his youth he was a pitcher on the baseball team in Farmington, and has taken great enjoyment through the years listening to the radio broadcasts of the games over the country. It is the wish of all that Mr. Brady may have good health and much happiness in the years that are to come.

KEEFE - Frank E. KEEFE entered into rest at the home of his mother, Mrs. Kathryn KEEFE, on the Honeoye Falls road, Monday, October 14, 1940. He was born in Victor 36 years ago and recently returned form New York City, where he had resided for several years. The surviving relatives are his widow, Mrs. Beulah Collins KEEFE; his mother, Mrs. KEEFE; three sisters, Mrs. Leonard BARRY of Victor, Mrs. M. J. RAUSCH of Waterloo and Miss Madalyn KEEFE of Victor; three brothers, Arthur of Fairport, Donald and Roy KEEFE of Victor. Funerals services took place Thursday morning from the home and from St. Patrick's church. Interment was made in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

+ Mrs. Fred GREEN and Miss Mary PRYOR of Rochester, went to Bristol, Wednesday. Miss PRYOR and Mrs. GREEN were friends when attending Mechanics Institute of Rochester.

+ Miss Blanche CLARK of Sandusky, has been a guest of Mr. and Mrs. Brice BOWERMAN.

+ Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. HUDSON of Rochester recently called on Miss Mary L . DRAPER.

+ Mrs. John LYNAUGH of Canandaigua, spent Thursday of last week with Mrs. Mary LYNAUGH.

+ Mrs. Rose JACOBS was agues of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert ROLLINGSWORTH of Fairport the past weekend.

+ Mrs. Howard BLOODGOOD and daughter, Mrs. Mabel ESTEY of Geneva, spent Wednesday in Rochester.

+ Mr. and Mrs. Howard BLOODGOOD and Mrs. Flora COX called on Mr. and Mrs. Frank SIDDONS and family of 7 Colbert Place, Rochester, Sunday.

+ Mr. and Mrs. A. E. COLLINS were Sunday dinner guests of their daughter, Mrs. Luther MOYER and family in Canandaigua.

+ Mr. and Mrs. Frank THOMPSON and daughter, Jean, of Rochester, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Melville BEARD and family.

+ Miss Carrie STRONG has returned to her home in the Catskills, after having visited her cousins, Mrs. Marlon PLUMB and Mrs. Lillian ROSS.

+ Mr. and Mrs. Charles N. SMITH of Syracuse were guests of Dr. and Mrs. Carl B. SMITH and daughter, Cynthia Laidlaw SMITH, from Wednesday until Saturday, last week.

+ Rev. and Mrs. Nelson L. LOBDELL and Rev. and Mrs. R. E. DRONSFIELD, motored to Syracuse, Tuesday, to visit Miss Marian E. LOBDELL, who has charge of 17 Freshmen girls at Syracuse University this year.

+ Miss Mary L. DRAPER and her guest, Mrs. E. A. DREW of St. Paul, Minn., called on Miss Ella MEAD at St. Ann's Home in Rochester, last Saturday. Mrs. DREW is now spending a few days with relatives at Clifton Springs.

+ Mr. and Mrs. Ralph HAWKINS attend the wedding of Miss Edna KEMP and Carl SLADE of Macedon, Saturday evening, at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles KEMP. Mr. SLADE is a brother of Mrs. HAWKINS.

John P. Brady, who spent a considerable portion of his life in Ontario County, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William Woodside, in Rochester, Tuesday noon, February 11, 1941. He had lived for nearly a century, having been born in Ireland on September 12, 1841.

Mr. Brady came to this country when a young man. He was a farmer by occupation and after living for a long time at Shortsville, he located at Mertensia in the town of Farmington. He was married to Mary Brady, and 11 children were born to them at their home in Farmington. While n his farm, Mr. Brady found much enjoyment in fox hunting. He was a baseball enthusiast, and in his youth pitched on the Farmington nine.

In 1906, Mr. Brady and his family moved into Victor village, and for a time he was towerman at the Maple Avenue crossing of the Lehigh Valley railroad on a 12 hour trick. In 1909 he made a trip to Ireland. About 24 years ago, Mr. Brady went to Rochester to live with his daughter, Mrs. Woodside. He took daily walks, made new friends and acquaintances, read the newspapers, went for automobile rides, and enjoyed radio programs, especially the broadcasts of baseball games. He frequently returned to Victor for visits with his relatives and friends, and in September, 1940, he attended the centennial celebration of the first train over the Auburn branch of the New York Central. Friendly and whimsical, he was an interesting companion and opportunities to renew acquaintances with him were welcomed by all who knew him.

The surviving relatives are three daughters and six sons, Mrs. William Woodside and Miss Viola Brady of Rochester, Mrs. Edward Keefe of Victor, Frank and Leo, of Rochester, Louis of Leroy, Arthur of East Rochester, John J. and Walton, of Victor, 29 grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted in S.S. Peter and Paul's church in Rochester, Friday morning. Burial was made in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Victor.

Couple Reaches 53d Milestone Together

Mr. and Mrs. Edwin E. Prosser will attain their 53d wedding anniversary tomorrow, Saturday, February 15th. The week holds two

special occasions for them, Mr. Prosser's 82d birthday having fallen on Wednesday, February 12th. Mr. and Mrs. Prosser are able to be about their home, but they get out very little.

Frank CARPENTER is 95 Years Old Today - Frank CARPENTER, who arrived in this world on St. Valentines' Day, is today quietly celebrating his 95th birthday at the home of his son, Benjamin CARPENTER, where eh now lives. He is in fairly good health.

She is survived by two daughters and a son, Mrs. Edgar Lyons of Rochester, Julia and Thomas of Victor, four grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Barrett of Rochester. Funeral services were conducted from her home and from St. Patrick's Church, Tuesday, March 18. Interment was made in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

GERMANN - Mrs. Florence Cuykendall Germann of Rochester, entered into rest Monday, April 7, 1941, in the Genesee Hospital in Rochester. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Cuykendall of Rochester, former residents of Victor, and a niece of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Cuykendall. The surviving relatives besides her parents are her husband, Richard Germann, a sister, Ruth, a brother Henry, all of Rochester. Funeral services took place from the home of her parents. Interment was made in White Haven Memorial Park.

KNIGHT - APPLETON - Announcement is made of the marriage of Miss Clara Appleton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Appleton of Rochester, former residents of this village, and Abraham Knight. The ceremony was performed Sunday, March 30, in the Congregational Church at Kent, Ohio, by the Rev. Mr. Wilcox, pastor of the church. Mrs. Knight has been a resident of Kent for the past year and Mr. Knight is an employee of the United States Government.

Miss Elizabeth Osborne, who has been with her mother, Mrs. W. B. Osborne, during the Summer, left last Saturday to resume her work as a lecturer and advisor to college students, clubs and other groups of people.

Mr. and Mrs. Osborne Hunt and sons, Jerry and Leonard, Mrs. William Washburn of Canandaigua, and Edgar Mead motored to the Adirondacks, Last Friday, returning Monday evening.

The marriage of Miss Lois Prosser, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn D. Prosser of Farmington, and Earl V. Hill, son of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Hill of Canandaigua, took place December 1, 1941, in the parsonage of the Rev. Mr. Hopkins. Mr. and Mrs. Hill spent a short honeymoon touring through Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware.

SULLIVAN - Ella of Victor, N. Y., at the home of Jerry KEATING, Sunday, Dec. 28, 1941. She leaves three sisters, Mrs. Mary KEATING, Victor, Mrs. William DOLAN and Mrs. John HEINSLER, both of Rochester; one brother, Daniel SULLIVAN of Rochester; several nieces and nephews.
Services from the home of Mrs. Mary KEATING, Victor, N. Y., Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. and St. Patrick's Church at 9 a.m. Interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Arrangements by Sale & Cotton.

McMAHON - Gertrude CONCANNON McMAHON of 53 Arvine Heights, Rochester, N. Y., entered into rest, Apr. 1, 1942. She is survived by one son, Charles J. Jr.; two sisters, Miss Bertha CONCANNON of Syracuse, Mrs. Dewey WILBUR of Victor; several nieces and nephews.
Services from the home Monday at 9 a.m. and 9:30 o'clock at St. Monica's Church. Interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Victor, N. Y.
