WEDDING - Miss Shirley M. Broderick
Weds Edward Erdle
A wedding of wide spread interest took place at 10 Saturday morning, September
6, 1952, in St. Patrick's church in Macedon, when Miss
Shirley Marie Broderick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Earl E. Broderick of Farmington, became the bride of Edward
J. Erdle of Canandaigua.
A prie dieu covered with gold cloth, before an altar beautifully decorated with
tall gold vases of white gladioli, flanked on each side by seven branched
candelabra with white candles, gave a touch of simple dignity to the impressive
double ring ceremony, which was performed by the Rev.
Bernard C. Hanna, pastor of the church, who also celebrated the nuptial
Mass.
The bride was escorted to the altar by her father. She was most charming in a
gorgeous gown of white slipper satin, princess style, with a fitted bodice,
sheer yoke with portrait neckline, and long sleeves with calla points. A wide
panel of rose point lace down the front of the waist and along the sides of the
full skirt, extended to the length of the long cathedral train. Her double
tiered finger tip veil of French illusion, fell from a tiara halo of tulle
trimmed with seed pearls, and she carried a white prayer book adorned with a
white orchid, and narrow satin streamers.
Miss Patricia Broderick, sister of the bride, was
maid of honor, and Mrs. Ila Gerew was matron of
honor. They wore American Beauty bouffant gowns of heavy slipper satin with
matching jackets and mitts and carried round bouquets, tied with shaded pink
ribbon. The bridesmaids were Miss Doreen Kelly
cousin of the bride, Mrs. Dorothy Straight and Mrs.
Genevieve Christian, sister of the bridegroom. They were dressed in
French blue bouffant gowns of heavy slipper satin, fashioned like the dresses
worn by the honor attendants and they all wore low satin halos to match their
gowns. They carried bouquets of shaded pink miniature gladioli, tied with ribbon
to match their dresses.
James Erdle of Canandaigua was best man for his
brother, and the ushers were Leo Erdle and John Erdle,
brothers of the bridegroom. Stanley Steele of
Holcomb and William Christiansen of Rochester. The
organ music was rendered by Miss Monica Crowley,
cousin of the bride, and the church choir sang, Panis Angelicus, and two
beautiful communion hymns, Jesus, Jesus, Come to me, and O Lord, I am not
worthy.
The bride's mother was attired in a street length dress of raspberry crepe with
matching accessories and wore a corsage of white miniature chrysanthemums. The
bridegroom's mother wore a street length dress of plum crepe, with accessories
to harmonize with her gown, and also wore a corsage of white miniature
chrysanthemums.
An afternoon reception was held at the Potter Memorial in Fairport, where about
275 guests were graciously entertained. A large four tiered wedding cake, topped
with a miniature bride and groom, centered the long serving table, which was
beautifully adorned with the colorful bouquets of the attendants, and lighted
white tapers in low crystal candlesticks. Those serving were Betty
Schrader, Evelyn Beard, Patricia Clifford, and Monica Crowley.
The bride was graduated from Victor Central School and attended the Rochester
Business Institute. She was employed as medical secretary in the Social Welfare
department of the Genesee hospital. The bridegroom is a graduate of the
Canandaigua Academy. He served with the United States Army in World War II, and
one year in the Occupational forces in Japan. He is now in the employ of W. F.
Excell of the Case Machinery company, Canandaigua.
Prenuptial events were a personal shower by the bride's aunts, Mrs.
Ruby Crowley, Mrs. Flossie Kelly, and a cousin, Miss
Doreen Kelly, a linen shower by Mrs. Ila Gerew,
a crystal and linen shower and party by Miss Danby,
and a grocery shower by Mrs. Dorothy Straight, Mrs. Ruth
Power, and Mrs. Nancy Herendeen. Upon their return from a wedding
trip through the New England states, Mr. and Mrs. Erdle will
be at home at 90 West Main Street, Shortsville.
