S. - W. ANDREWS

Smedley³ Andrews was born Canandaigua, New York August 09,1793. His obituary states that he was born in 1795. Smedley died January 25, 1882 in Bloods, New York, at 88 years of age.

THE NAPLES RECORD January 27, 1882

Mr. Smedley Andruss, of Cohocton, the father of Mrs. Millard of this village, died quite suddenly yesterday morning, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Solomon Woodward. The funeral is today.

NAPLES NEOPOLITAN January 26, 1882

Uncle Smedley Andrus, residing with his daughter, Mrs. E. Woodard, was taken dangerously ill with pneumonia on Saturday last. Dr. Woodard, who was immediately called, has been in almost constant attendance. At this writing the old gentleman is some better. Fears are entertained lest his great age, 87 years, and extreme debility preclude recovery.

Death of Smedley Andurs The Bloods Correspondent of the Neopolitan says:

Smedley Andurs, one of the oldest and most noted citizens of this place, who recently departed this life at the advanced age of 87 years, was born at Canandaigua in 1795.

He was educated at the old academy of the same place, and after acquiring a preliminary education, commenced the study of law and was about to be admitted to the bar when the war of 1812 broke out

Mr. Andurs being then a strong and vigorous boy and full of patriotic zeal, he was one of the first to enlist in the service. He also drove the first load of provisions from Canandaigua to Buffalo, where the army was then contesting. He served the life of a brave soldier, many times being the last man to retreat. After the war he came back to his father's home, and at the age of 23 years was married to Sally Drake.

Starting then for himself, laboring with the disadvantages of those days and disturbed by the howling of wolves and other animals. After all this, acquiring a good fortune, and being blessed with eleven children, nine of whom are left to mourn the loss of their aged father.

The Death Record information obtained from Cohocton records office is as follows,

Smedley Andrews, Born Canandaigua, August 20, 1794, Farmer, Died January 24, 1882, Bloods, explained as being in Atlanta, Father listed as Samuel, and his mother is listed as Soliloe Conn or Corn. This informant was listed as C. H. Woodard. His age was shown to be 87 years, 5 Mos, 4 Das. His body was interred 1882 in North Cohocton, New York, Old Clearview Cemetery.

He married Sarah Drake December 01, 1816. Sarah was born 1796. Sarah was the daughter of Lt. Samuel Drake and Eunice Carpenter . Sarah died June 17, 1880 in North Cohocton, New York, at 83 years of age.

NAPLES NEAPOLITAN NEWSPAPER

BLOODS - Mrs. Sally Andrews, wife of Smedley Andrews, died at her home about two miles west of this village, Thursday June 17th. She had been in poor health for some months for the past few weeks very low, and therefore her death not unexpected. Her disease was dropsy of the heart. Funeral Saturday, June the 19th from the house, her late residence. Sermon by Rev. S. T. Dean from words of her own selection.

Her remains rest in the family grounds, beside her relatives, in the cemetery at North Cohocton. She was born at Newtown, now Naples, in the year 1796, consequently at her death was 84 years old. Her maiden name was Drake. She married Smedley Andrews in 1816 at the age of 19, who still survives her. She was the mother of eleven children, nine of whom are still living, all of whom occupy useful and honorable positions in society.

She joined the Methodist church when only twenty three years old, since which the long period of sixty one years has lived a devoted Christian life. She fulfilled well all the relations of life. A good woman has departed, deeply mourned not only by relatives, but a large circle of friends and acquaintance.

The NAPLES RECORD

Mrs. Sarah Andrews, mother of Mrs. M. Monier of this village, died at her residence, near Blood's Depot, on Thursday, June 17th, at the advanced age of 83. Mrs. Andrews was one of the oldest residents of that vicinity, and very highly esteemed by all who knew her.

For sixty years she had been a faithful, consistent Christian, and dying, as she did, in the full possession of her faculties, she manifested a perfect willingness, rejoicing even, to commit herself to her Savior's keeping. To her, death was a welcome guest, and she has entered upon her rest.

All of her daughters now living, five in number, were present at her funeral, which took place on Saturday, June 19, Rev. Mr. Dean of Bloods, officiating, of whose church she was a member. Her husband still lives to mourn his loss, as well as a large circle of relatives and friends.

Margaret Andrews was born January 11, 1820. Margaret died February 05, 1903 Naples, New York, at 83 years of age.

ONTARIO COUNTY JOURNAL February 6, 1903

Mrs. B. F. Millard died at her home in Naples yesterday afternoon as the result of a paralytic stroke suffered on Saturday evening. She was 83 years of age. Her daughters, Mrs. H. C. Fiske, of Buffalo, Mrs. Margaret Young, of Long Island, and Mrs. Adelaide Monier, of this town, were with her. She had suffered many years with rheumatism.

Besides the daughters mentioned, deceased is survived by her husband, Rev. B. F. Millard, and one son, James Monier, of Naples.

NAPLES - Mrs. Margaret Millard, whose funeral was held from her late home on Saturday, was a woman of great prominence in this vicinity. Her ability, courtesy and benevolence were evidences of her fine character.

She was left by her first husband, the late James L. Monier, in charge of large possessions, and developed remarkable ability as a business woman. But these cares did not close her heart to the needs of others, or the demands of the many benevolent and religious societies and schemes of which she was among the foremost helpers in Naples.

She had been for sixty years a great worker in the Presbyterian church, and for 18 years was the wife and able counselor of its honored pastor. Her birth place was Canandaigua. She was married at the age of 20, and for 63 years had presided over the home which she died.

She married twice. She married James Livingston Monier December 06, 1842. Page 281 in the book Steuben County Newspapers Marriages, shows both to be of Naples, NY.

Samuel⁴ Andrews was born September 27, 1816. Samuel died March 09, 1854 in Seneca, at 37 years of age.

Newspaper dated April 6,1854 Samuel Andrews, aged 39 years, Seneca.

He married Mary Jane Smith 1841. ONTARIO MESSENGER November 1843 on the 10th or 11th.

Harris Jr. was born April 16, 1817. Harris died November 25, 1892 Canandaigua, New York, at 75 years of age.

Harris Andrews died last Saturday at his residence on Wood Street. The funeral took place Monday. Mr. Andrews was born in this neighborhood and spent his life of 75 years here. For years he managed a farm in Hopewell and only gave it up in old age to come to Canandaigua to reside.

Few men were more generally known in this and neighboring places than was Mr. Andrews. His body was interred 1892 Canandaigua, New York, West Avenue Cemetery. (Picture of grave taken.)

He married Mary J. Lamport . Mary was born Troy, New York June 11, 1825. Mary died February 21, 1917 Canandaigua, New York, at 91 years of age.^[i] [i]. Canandaigua City Clerk office record. The record states that she was 91 years 8 mos. and 10 days old.

ANDREWS - The death of Mrs. Mary Jane Andrews occurred at her home on West Gibson Street on Wednesday PM following a long illness. She was born in Troy, June 11, 1825 and had resided in Canandaigua the past 25 years.

There survive two daughters and one son, Mrs. Margaret LeRoy of Akron, Ohio, Mrs. S. E. Case and Charles H. Andrews of Canandaigua, also two sisters, Mrs. C. B. Anderson, and Miss Helen Lamport, of Canandaigua, six grand and 3 great grand children. Funeral services will be held at the home tomorrow afternoon at 3 PM. Rev. Guy L. Morrill will officiate. Interment at West Avenue Cemetery.

William Alden⁷ Andrews was born Canandaigua, New York April 24, 1934. He married Donna Lou Hanley Canandaigua, New York, September 05, 1953. Donna was born Canandaigua, New York December 04, 1933.

In Bristol, July 17, 1895, by Rev. Mr. Chatfield, William R. Andrews and Miss Irene C. Bliss, both of Bristol.

Irene was born July 30, 1861. Irene was the daughter of Philenzo Payne Jr. Bliss and Catherine Louise Totman . Irene died June 29, 1925 Bristol, New York, at 63 years of age.

BRISTOL VALLEY - The funeral of Mrs. Irene Bliss Andrews, wife of William R. Andrews, was held from the home on Wednesday afternoon. Her death occurred the previous Monday after a long illness.

She was the oldest daughter of Philenzo and Katherine Totman Bliss, born in Missouri 63 years ago. When a child she moved with them to this town where her life was spent. Two children were born to them, Maurice, who lives at home, and Malvina, wife of Irwin Hicks of Cheshire.

She is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Winifred Flanders, Mrs. Alfred Henish of this place, and Mrs. John Wilder of Cleveland, two brothers, Gooding H. Bliss of Shortsville, and Lester Bliss of Canandaigua town. There were many beautiful floral tributes. Interment made in Andrews Cemetery.

Malvina Sophia Andrews was born Bristol, New York August 06, 1898. Malvina died February 09, 1941 Holcomb, New York, at 42 years of age. Mrs. Irwin S. Hicks Mrs. Malvina Andrews Hicks, 42, wife of Irwin S. Hicks, of Holcomb, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 1941, following a major operation four weeks earlier.

Mrs. Hicks was born in Bristol, August 6, 1898, daughter of William R. and Irene Bliss Andrews. Besides her husband, she leaves a son and daughter, Irwin M. Hicks and Irene Caroline Hicks, Bristol, and one brother, Maurice Andrews of Lima. Her body was interred 1941 Canandaigua, New York, Andrews Cemetery.

She married Irwin Sanford Hicks in Baptist Hill, New York, August 21, 1924.
