BACON

Harold Gallup⁴ Bacon was born Canandaigua, New York August 20, 1890. Harold died September 28, 1951 Canandaigua, New York, at 61 years of age.

He married Florence A. Phetteplace Canandaigua, New York, February 27, 1924.^[i] i]. Canandaigua City clerk office record number 769.

PHETTEPLACE - BACON

The marriage of Miss Florence A. Phetteplace, Park Street, and Harold Gallup Bacon, of the Chapin Road, took place at St. John's church this morning at 9 AM. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Herbert L Gaylord in the presence of the immediate families.

The bride who was attended by her sister, Mrs. William Tracey, was given in marriage by her brother-in-law, Mr. Tracey. The groom was attended by his brother, Orin S Bacon Jr. After a wedding trip to New York. Mr. and Mrs. Bacon will reside on the groom's farm on the Chapin Road.

Florence was born in Brighton, New York 1888. Florence was the daughter of Edward R. Phetteplace and Mary Elizabeth Beal . In 1917 all males ages 17 to 45 had to enroll for military census, and Harold Gallup listed his age as 26 years, Canandaigua, and he was a farmer.

Orin S. Bacon Sr. was born New York March 1837. Orin died July 22, 1901 Canandaigua, New York, at 64 years of age. Ontario County Death Record at City Clerk office is number 1491.

OBITUARY - BACON

The announcement of the death of Orin S. Bacon on Monday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Edward W. Simmons, was received throughout the village with profound sorrow and regret.

Mr. Bacon had been for many years a prominent figure in the business circles of this place, and his death is a public loss. Mr. Bacon had been ill for many weeks, and during that time had endured great sufferings which was made more intense the last four days of his life by the fracture of a limb just below the thigh, on Thursday, as he was being assisted from a chair to the bed.

While Mr. Bacon had been identified with Canandaigua since 1880, his home had not been here until 3 years ago, when upon the death of his wife in February 1898, he gave up the Victor residence and had since resided with his daughter, Mrs. Simmons. Mr. Bacon's life had been exceedingly active and his success was due largely to his untiring energy, together with his splendid business ability.

He was born in this town March 29, 1837, and was therefore 64 years of age. His father was Rev. Hiram Bacon, a free will Baptist minister. The family moved to Potter when Mr. Bacon was a boy, and in the District school of that town and the Dundee Academy he received the education which contributed so largely to his future successes.

In 1855 he settled at Victor, and there for many years conducted a meat market and also carried on a real estate business. He was always closely identified with the best interest of the town. He took an active part in the politics and in 1879 he was elected Sheriff by the Republicans of the county.

Upon conclusion of his term of office, in 1883, he was appointed deputy revenue collector. In 1887 he became financial manager of McKechnie and Co. Bankers, and at the reorganization of that bank into the McKechnie Bank on March 1, 1899, he became its president.

Mr. Bacon is survived by two daughters, Mrs. George M. Dunlop of Spring Valley, and Mrs. Edward W. Simmons, of this village, two sons, Orin S. Bacon, of this village, and Rev. Albert S. Bacon, of Niagara Falls, and two brothers, Rev. John S. Bacon and Daniel R. Bacon of Pultney.

The funeral was held from the Simmons home on Wednesday afternoon, and services conducted by Rev. Charles N. Frost of Bath, formerly pastor of the Presbyterian church of Victor, and Rev. C. H. Dickenson. Interment was made in Woodlawn.

He married Harriet Elizabeth Simonds. Harriet was born New York March 19, 1838. Harriet was the daughter of Albert Simonds and Caroline Mansfield . Harriet died February 18, 1898 Victor, New York, at 59 years of age.

ORIN S. BACON - Orin Stebbins Bacon, formerly a prominent businessman of Canandaigua, died at his home in East Street, this city, Sunday morning, after a long and painful illness.

He was sixty five years of age, having been born at Victor, April 1, 1860. Mr. Bacon was the oldest son of the late Orin S. and Eliza Simonds Bacon, of Victor, his father having been a former Sheriff of the County and served for a number of years as manager of the McKechnie bank here being actively interested also in local political affairs.

Orin S. Bacon Jr. was associated in business with his father and later became interested in various business enterprises and engaged extensively in farming. He acted as manager of the McKechnie brewery and as proprietor of the Canandaigua Hotel, the sale of which he affected to Mrs. Frederick F. Thompson.

The funeral service was held at the home yesterday morning with his brother Rev. Albert S. Bacon of Niagara Falls officiating. Interment at Woodlawn.

Mr. Bacon is survived by his wife, Minnie Gallup Bacon, two sons, and four daughters, Orin S. Bacon, Jr., Harold G. Bacon, Misses Jane and Charlotte Bacon, and Mrs. Carl Shiebler, all of Canandaigua, and Mrs. Thomas Scoon, of Geneva, also by a sister and brother, Mrs. Edward W. Simmons, Canandaigua, and Rev. Albert S. Bacon of Niagara Falls. His body was interred 1925 Canandaigua, New York, Woodlawn Cemetery.

He married Minnie Minerva Gallup Victor, New York, February 14, 1884.

Orin S. Bacon Jr. and Miss Minnie Gallup were united in marriage last evening at the residence of William Gallup, Victor. There were a goodly number of friends present, and the affair passed off very pleasantly. The couple have the best wishes of a large circle of friends.

Minnie was born New York May 12, 1865. Minnie was the daughter of William Gallup and Caroline . Minnie died February 01, 1945 Canandaigua, New York, at 79 years of age.

OBITUARY - BACON - Mrs. Minnie Gallup Bacon, widow of Orin S. Bacon, died suddenly at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carl H. Shiebler, North Road, Thursday morning, February 1, 1945. A native of Victor, Mrs. Bacon was married February 14, 1884, and had lived in Canandaigua since that time.

Survivors are two sons and three daughters, Under sheriff Harold G. Bacon, this city, Orin S. Bacon 2nd, Miami, Florida, Mrs. Shiebler, Mrs. Arthur R. Munson of Canandaigua and Mrs. Thompson Scoon, Geneva Turnpike, also 12 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Her body was interred February 04, 1945 Canandaigua, New York, Woodlawn Cemetery.

At 33 years of age Minnie became the mother of Lillian M. Bacon Canandaigua, New York, December 01, 1898.

VICTOR - It was with much satisfaction that the Victor people learned of the capture of Will Gilroy, the escaped prisoner, who so brutally assaulted Mr. O. S. Bacon Jr., in his office a few months since, and who is yet suffering from the effects of the vicious blows received.

Lillian M. Bacon was born Canandaigua, New York December 01, 1898.

Orin S. III⁴ Bacon was born Canandaigua, New York March 10, 1885. Orin died July 03, 1954 in Miami, Florida, at 69 years of age.

ORIN S. BACON DIES IN MIAMI

Orin Stebbins Bacon, 69, a native of Canandaigua, died Saturday, July 3, 1954, at his home in Miami, Fla., after a year's illness. Son of Orin Stebbins and Minnie Gallup Bacon, he was born here Mar 10, 1885.

He attended the local schools, and was a graduate of Mercersburg Academy. He engaged in farming for some years on the Bacon property, now part of the VA Hospital Reservation. Active in Boy Scout work, he was county executive and director of Camp Tarion, Scout camp on the East Lake Shore, before going in 1925 to the Greer School, near Poughkeepsie, where he served about 10 years as boys director. Since that time he had made his home in Florida.

On Mar 21, 1907 Mr. Bacon married Miss Lovetta Cappon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Cappon, Canandaigua. Besides his wife he leaves one daughter and four sons, Mrs. Melvin Leon, Binghamton, Orin S. Jr., and Jean, Miami, George, Poughkeepsie, and John S. Bacon, Canandaigua, three sisters, Mrs. Thompson M. Scoon, Geneva, Mrs. Carl H. Shiebler, and Mrs. Arthur R. Munson, Canandaigua, also 12 grandchildren. He was a brother of the late Sheriff Harold G. Bacon. Interment in Miami.

He married Lovetta W. Cappon Canandaigua, New York, March 21, 1907.^[i] i]. Canandaigua City Clerk office record number 1742, states he is a Foreman, age 22 years.

Marriage - CAPPON - BACON

The marriage of Miss Lovetta Cappon and Orin S. Bacon Jr., was quietly solemnized at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Cappon, Bristol Street, yesterday morning at 11. Only the immediate families witnessed the ceremony which was performed by the groom's uncle, Rev. A. F. Bacon of Niagara Falls.

A wedding breakfast was served, the guests being seated at one long table. Mr. and Mrs. Bacon left at 1 PM for the wedding journey and upon return will reside on the Bacon farm known as the Henry Metcalf place.

Miss Lovetta W. Cappon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Cappon, and Orin S. Bacon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orin S. Bacon, were united in marriage at the home of the bride's parents, in Bristol Street, Thursday morning. Only the immediate families were present at the ceremony which was performed by the groom's uncle, Rev. A. F. Bacon, of the First Presbyterian church, of Niagara Falls. The bride and groom were unattended.

The bride was attired in a princess gown of point d' esprite over white silk and carried a bouquet of white lilacs. After the ceremony a wedding breakfast was served in the dining room, the decoration of which were carried out in white and pink. Covers were laid for twenty four. Mr. and Mrs. Bacon left for a trip through Ohio and Indiana and upon their return the will reside at the Bacon farm in East Street.

Lovetta was born Canandaigua, New York April 03, 1887. Lovetta was the daughter of Abram C. Cappon and Nellie O'Brien . Lovetta died January 1965 in Binghamton, New York, at 77 years of age.

Mrs. Orin S Bacon - Mrs. Lovetta Cappon Bacon, 77, widow of Orin S. Bacon, formerly of Canandaigua, died Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Melvin W. Leon, Binghamton.

Born in Canandaigua, April 3, 1887, Mrs. Bacon was the daughter of the late Abram C. and Ella O'Brien Cappon. She attended local schools and in 1907, was married to Mr. Bacon who died in 1954. They moved in 1925 to Florida and since her husband's death, she had made her home in Canandaigua and for the past year in Binghamton.

Besides her daughter, survivors are four sons, Orin S. Bacon Jr., Charlotte, NC, John S., Canandaigua, George D., Tampa, Fla., and Jean F. Bacon, Belle Glade, Fla., a sister, Mrs. W. Donald Johnson of Canandaigua, 14 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Orin S. III Bacon and Lovetta W. Cappon had the following children:

WEDDING BELLS LEON - BACON

At St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Geneva, Wednesday, took place the marriage of Miss Lovetta Cappon Bacon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orin S. Bacon, of Verbank, formerly of Canandaigua, and Dr. Melville W. Leon, of Binghamton. Ceremony was performed by Rev. H. H. Hassinger, rector of the church. Mrs. Launt Lindsay of Geneva, sister of the groom played wedding music.

Following the ceremony, luncheon was served at LaFayette Inn, Geneva, after which Dr. and Mrs. Leon left for a motor trip to the Adirondacks and Canada. They will live at 4 James Street Binghamton. He studied at Amherst College and was graduated from Rochester School of Optometry.

His bride who has been spending time here with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Cappon, Bristol St., studied in Canandaigua Academy and completed an art course in Mechanics Institute .
