Obituary - Brockelbank
Early
Sunday morning occurred the death of Caleb Brockelbank at his home on
Bristol Street. He had been in poor health for some time, and three weeks ago
suffered a stroke of paralysis, since which time he had failed rapidly.
Deceased
was nearly 77 years of age and had always lived in this town, where his
industrious and upright life was known and appreciated by all who had dealings
with him. By trade he was a mechanic and for some years past had conducted a
copper shop.
Besides
his wife he leaves four daughters and two sons, Mrs. E. W. Johnson, Misses
Flora and Blanche Brockelbank, and Charles Brockelbank, of this village, and
Miss Lillian Brockelbank of New Haven, Conn., and Alton of
Sherman. Burial in West Avenue Cemetery.
His
body was
interred 1902 Canandaigua, New York, West Avenue Cemetery.

Buckalew's Funeral
The
funeral of Mrs. William Buckalew who died on Friday was held Monday afternoon, and
was largely attended. Rev. F. F.
Buckner officiated, and his discourse was based on the 15th Chapter of First
Corinthians.
The deceased is survived by her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Wilbur Ashley, of Honeoye, and two sons, George and Arthur Buckalew of Bristol. Mrs. Buckalew was 57 years of age. Her body was interred 1902 Honeoye, New York, Lakeview Cemetery.

Death came suddenly to Mrs. William
Briggs
Mary
Jane Briggs, wife of William A. Briggs, died at the family home on
West Avenue on Monday afternoon following a stroke of apoplexy which she
suffered a few hours before.
Mrs.
Briggs was born in West Bloomfield 46 years ago and had been a resident of
this village for the past 21 years.
She is survived by her husband, three children, Roy A.
Briggs, Charles Briggs, and Mrs. Tipton Carter, her father Harrison
Ferrin, of this village, three brothers, Frank Ferrin of Bristol,
Irving Ferrin of Livonia, and Louis Ferrin of Cheshire, and one
sister, Mrs. Charles Case of Onstead, Michigan.
Mrs.
Briggs was a member of the Methodist church and her pastor, Rev. Ward
Mosher officiated at the funeral services on Wednesday afternoon. Interment
at Woodlawn. Her
body was
interred 1907 Canandaigua, New York, Woodlawn Cemetery.

- The death of William
Abner Briggs, formerly of Canandaigua, occurred at his home in Moundsville,
W. Virginia Saturday. Mr. Briggs was born in Canandaigua town September
8, 1856 the son of Elihu E. and Emeline Reed Briggs.
On
January 10, 1877 he married Mary Jane Ferrin who died in 1907. In 1909 he
married Priscilla Jane Cunningham of Viola W. Virginia. Besides his widow
he leaves three children, Roy A. Briggs of Shortsville, Mrs. Adah J.
Carter and Charles F. Briggs of this city, 8 grand children, a brother Elnathan
Briggs of E. Bloomfield, a half brother Louis Briggs, and a half
sister, Mrs. Ina Fogarty of this city.
Funeral services were held from the home of his daughter Mrs. T. S. Carter, Adelaide Avenue, Tues. PM. Interred in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Miss Nancy M. Ferris, aged 79 years, died at home of J. H. Vandenbergh, West Gibson Street on Saturday following a very long illness. One sister, Mrs. Vandenbergh, and one brother William Ferris of Lima survive. Burial was at the latter place.

Petition of Surrogate court gives her death date and place of death. Her
daughter was listed as Helen S. Scanlon whose name at the time of the probate
was then Helen S. Riddell, and she was named in 1912 as the executrix of the
will. Helen is shown in the 1900 Canandaigua Census as having been born March
1889.

- The marriage of Miss Jennie
Ferris of Rochester, formerly of Lima, to Mr. Jacob VanDenbergh of
Canandaigua, took place at the home of the sisters of the bride, Misses Ellen
and Nancy Ferris, in this village on Tuesday afternoon at seven o'clock. Mr.
and Mrs. VanDenbergh left that evening for their home in Canandaigua.

Aged Veteran Passes Away at Canandaigua
Dec.
12, 1911, Jacob Shulters Vandenbergh died at his home on West Gibson
Street about 12:15 o'clock this morning, aged 85 years. He was born in Hoosick,
NY, February 26, 1826.
He
was twice married. His first wife was Miss Jane Reddington, and his 2nd
wife was Miss Jennie Ferris, to whom he was united in 1890. During the
Civil War, he served as a nurse and was attached to the ambulance corps. For the
greater part of his lifetime he has been a resident of this village and
vicinity.
He
leaves his wife and two children, Philip L. Vandenbergh, of Rochester,
and Mrs. Helen Scanlon, of Boston. The funeral will be held from the late
residence, No. 113 Gibson Street on Thursday afternoon with the Rev. Guy L.
Morrill pastor of the local Presbyterian church officiating. Interment will
be made in Woodlawn Cemetery.

The
death of Jacob S. VanDenberg occurred on Monday night at his home on West
Gibson Street, after a four weeks illness due to a stroke of paralysis. Mr.
VanDenberg was born in Hoosick in 1826, but had been a resident of this village
for many years.
He
leaves his wife, who was formerly Miss Jennie Ferris of Lima, and a
daughter, Mrs. Helen Scanlon, and a son, Philip L. Vandenberg. The
funeral will be held from his late residence on Thursday afternoon, the Rev.
Guy L. Morrill officiating. Interment at Woodlawn.

OBITUARY
VANDENBERGH
Jacob
Shulters VanDenbergh a well known figure in Canandaigua and
throughout the county by reason of his occupation as subscription agent,
died at his home on W. Gibson Street on Tuesday AM aged 85 years.
Deceased
was born in Hoosick on February 26, 1826.
Mr. VanDenbergh was twice married, his first wife having been Jane
Reddington. In 1890 he married to Miss Jennie Ferris, who with one
daughter, Mrs Helen Scanlon, of Boston, and one son Phillip
VanDenbergh of Rochester,
survive.
Funeral
services conducted by Rev. G. L. Morrill, burial at Woodlawn. Mr.
VanDenbergh during the Civil War served as a nurse attached to the ambulance
corps. Most of his life was spent here in this village and vicinity.

A
small article as follows, Mrs. J. S. VanDenbergh and Mrs. Nellie Reddington,
West Gibson Street, started on Wednesday morning on a 15 day trip to Buffalo,
Detroit, and St. Louis.
There is a marriage record at the City Clerk office, number 1708, dated
November 14, 1906 for Helen Vandenburgh and Thomas Scantlin.

On Tuesday, Mrs. J. S. VanDenbergh, West Gibson Street, attempted to revive a low furnace with kerosene and as the oil came into contact with the coal, an explosion of gas followed and the flames burst out of the furnace, burning Mrs. VanDenbergh severely about the face and arms.

KICK of COLT FINALLY FATAL
Death of Patrick Finnegan at East Bloomfield saddens Community
The death of Patrick Finnegan occurred very suddenly early Tuesday morning, at the family residence in the Eastern part of the town. Mr. Finnegan was severely injured several months ago by a colt and ever since had been confined to his bed.
His
injury was healing nicely when on last Saturday he had an attack of heart
trouble. Dr. Wheeler was called but to no avail. Mr. Finnegan was
born in Ireland 77 years ago. His family moved to this country and he spent his
early years in Bristol and Henrietta. For
40 years Mr. Finnegan had been an upright and much respected citizen of
East Bloomfield.
His
death will be a great loss to the community. He is survived by his wife, two
daughters, Miss Emma Finnegan of this place, and Mrs. E. J. Pedley,
of Cleveland, Ohio, and three sons, Herbert, Emmett, and William, all of
this place. The funeral was held on Thursday afternoon, at the family residence,
Rev. W. D. Robinson officiating. Burial
in Village Cemetery.

BLOOMFIELD - The
death of Mrs. Jennie Donaldson Finegan occurred at her residence in the
eastern part of the town on Tuesday night, after a short illness from pneumonia.
She was the widow of Patrick Finegan, whose death took place about
16 months ago.
Jennie
Stafford Donaldson was born in Rochester, January 27, 1843, and May 1, 1868,
she and Patrick Finegan were married, coming soon after to this town, where they
have since made their home.
Honored and respected by the entire community, Mrs. Finegan was devoted to her family and friends, and was a true home maker. She leaves two daughters and three sons, Mrs. E. J. Pedley, of Cleveland, Ohio, Miss Emma Finegan, who resides at home, Herbert and William Finegan of this town, and Emmett, of Canandaigua, also one brother, George H. Donaldson, of Charlotte.
The
funeral will be held from her late home tomorrow afternoon, being conducted by Rev.
W. D. Robinson, pastor of the Congregational church, and interment will be
in the East Bloomfield Cemetery.

BLOOMFIELD - Herbert Finagan,
73, died Tuesday, February 24, 1942, in the family farm home in the Buffalo Road
three miles east of here.
A
lifelong resident of East Bloomfield, he was a farmer residing on the homestead
with his brother, William Finagan. He also leaves another brother, Emmett
Finagan of Canandaigua, and another sister, Mrs. Ernest Pedley of
Cleveland Ohio, and three nephews.
Funeral
will be tomorrow in the Finagan home. The Rev. W. Heber O'Hara,
pastor of Union Congregational Church, Churchville, will officiate. Burial in
East Bloomfield Cemetery.

EAST BLOOMFIELD - A quiet and pretty home wedding took place on Wednesday noon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Finnegan, when their daughter Edith was united in marriage to Ernest Pedley, of Cleveland.
The
ceremony was witnessed by only the immediate relatives of the bride and groom,
and was performed by Rev. W. D. Robinson, pastor of the Congregational
church. The bride was attired in
white muslin and was attended by her sister, Miss Emma Finnegan.
The groom was attended by his brother, Walter Pedley, of Cleveland, Ohio. After the ceremony a wedding supper was served, after which the bridal party left for a short wedding trip. They will reside in Cleveland.
William
Finagan was born New York September 1882.

died
April 23, 1971 Canandaigua, New York, at 88 years of age.
EAST BLOOMFIELD - William Finagan, 89, former resident of Centerfield, died Friday, April 23, at Canandaigua after a long illness.
Surviving are three nephews, Emmett Pedley of Cleveland, Ohio, Harry Finagan of Fort Worth, Texas, and Emmett Finagan of Canandaigua. Funeral services were Sunday from the Wheeler Funeral Home. Burial in the East Bloomfield Cemetery at the convenience of the family. His body was interred 1971 East Bloomfield, New York, East Bloomfield Cemetery.

born New York May 1878. Emmett died May 30, 1954 at 76 years of age.
The records at East Bloomfield Town Hall indicate he may have resided
last in Hopewell. His
body was interred 1954 East Bloomfield, New
York, East Bloomfield Cemetery.

married Clara
A. Appleton
who was born East Bloomfield, New York
January 08, 1886. Clara was
the daughter of Robert Appleton
and Frieda Beutler. Clara
died April 03, 1967 at 81 years of age.
Emmett
Finnegan and Miss Clara M. Appleton, daughter of Mrs. Robert Appleton,
were married by Rev. W. D. Robinson at the Congregational parsonage on
Wednesday evening. Miss Emma Finnegan, the groom's sister, and Leonard
Appleton, the bride's brother, attended them. Mr. and Mrs. Finnegan
will reside on the Gunn farm, which Mr. Finnegan has rented.
Born
January 8, 1886, in East Bloomfield, she was the daughter of Robert and
Fredericka Beutler Appleton. Mrs. Finagan was a lifelong resident of the
area.
Surviving
are two sons, Harry of Texas and Emmett of Canandaigua, a foster
son, Harry Stierer of Buffalo, six grandchildren, and two great
grandchildren. Burial will be
in the East Bloomfield Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
At 26 years of age Clara
became the mother of Harry E. Finagan

BOYS RIDING BICYCLE HIT BY AUTOMOBILE
Robert
and Henry McKerr, sons of Robert H. McKerr, Daily Avenue, had a
narrow escape from serious injury on Tuesday noon, when they were both riding a
new bicycle in Main Street North, opposite the Historical Building.
The auto was driven by Emmett Finagan, a local liveryman, and was trailing a buggy.
The
boys were riding southward, Henry, the smaller of the two, riding the
handle bars of the wheel. The car came down Main Street and Mr. Finagan
blew his horn as he approached the boys, turned to the left to pass them, when
suddenly the wheel was turned into the road and ran directly between the auto
and trailing buggy at the street car tracks.
Both
boys were thrown to the pavement and the buggy passed over them. They were
rendered unconscious and carried to the office of Dr. George McClellan, where
scalp wounds were dressed and the boys revived. Later the boys were taken to
their home and no serious developments are looked for.

OBITUARY
Catherine Redfern Finagan
Canandaigua
Catherine Redfern Finagan, 71, of the Geneva Turnpike, Routes 5 and 20,
died today, July 28, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. She was a
graduate of Canandaigua Academy and a member of St. Mary's Church, the Ontario
County Women's Republican Club, the Ontario County Historical Society, and the
Monday Bridge Club.
She was a volunteer at Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua.
Surviving are her husband, Emmett S. Finagan Jr., a son, Emmett W.
Finagan III, and daughter in law, Suzanne Finagan, daughters, Mrs.
Robert Patricia M. Bolkosky and Mrs. David Martha Meredith, one grandson, Jason
Finagan, and sister, Mrs. William B. Peg Rayburn, all of Canandaigua,
and two aunts and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
There will be no prior calling hours. A memorial mass will be held Saturday at St. Mary's Church. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Fort
Worth, age 82, a retired Bell Hellicopter Engineer, died Dec. 3, 1995 at Fort Worth,
Texas. He was born January 7, 1913
in Canandaigua. He was always
interested in aircrafts and began his career with Bell Hellicopter in Buffalo
when the 1st hellicopter was built. In 1952 he was transferred with his family
to Fort Worth for the opening of Bell Hellicopter Textron.
Surviving
are his wife, Winifred Finagan, son Christopher Finagan, and daughter, Linda
Tout, all of Texas, and a daughter, Barbara Stowe of California,
brother Emmett Finagan Jr., of Canandaigua, 10 grandchildren and 6 great
grandchildren.
He married Winifred Mae Douglass. Winifred was born 1919. Winifred is the daughter of Ira P Cribb Douglass and Mae M. Davis
