This is an estimated guess since he does not show on the 1870 census with
wife and his son. His
body was interred Canandaigua, New York,
Calvary Cemetery. The Ontario County Journal, Friday, May 9, 1909, listed him as a
soldier buried in Calvary.
He
married Bridget
Hagerty.

died May 24, 1898 Canandaigua,
New York, at 75 years of age.

James
S. Fogarty died here on Sunday night following a long illness, at the age of
71 years. Mr. Fogarty was a
life long resident of Canandaigua, having been born here on June 2, 1856. He had
been active in the affairs of the community having served as a member of the
former Canandaigua village light commission and for several years as chief of
the Canandaigua fire department.
He
joined the old Steamer Company, No. 1, in 1875 and upon its merger with the
Erina Hose company became a charter member of that organization. He was for 35
years engineer at the Smith Bros. Mill and held a similar position with the New
York Canners for the past ten years.
He is survived by his wife, four daughters, Mrs Louis H. Brown, Mrs. W. G. Lapham, Mrs. Charles Henderson, and Mrs. Edward M. Breen, and a son, W. J. Fogarty, all of Canandaigua, NY. The funeral was held this morning from St. Mary's church, with interment in Calvary Cemetery. His body was interred 1927 Canandaigua, New York, Calvary Cemetery.

Seven
children motherless, Mrs. James S. Fogarty died on Sunday following an
operation, aged 43 years. Her death has aroused the deepest sympathy for seven
children are left motherless. Mrs. Fogarty was formerly Miss Sarah
Phipps.
She
was a devoted member of St. Mary's church and there she will be sadly missed
also. She leaves besides her husband and children, her mother, Mrs. David
Phipps of this village, one brother, David, and four sisters, Misses
Margaret and Emma Phipps, and Mrs. Harry Cory, Shortsville, and Mrs.
Elizabeth Diets of Bloomington, Ill.

In Canandaigua, December 16, Mrs. James S. Fogarty, aged 43 years.
FOGARTY
- Sunday afternoon at the Canandaigua Hospital of Physicians and
Surgeons occurred the death of Mrs. James S. Fogarty, aged 43 years.
Mrs. Fogarty had undergone an operation on the previous Wednesday,
but her recovery was confidently looked for and her death was a shock to her
many friends.
Mrs.
Fogarty before her marriage was Miss Sarah E. Phipps. She was born in Manchester, July 29, 1868, and on
June 30, 1886 she was married to James S. Fogarty, of this place, and has always
resided here. She was a woman of the Christian character and life , and her
beloved husband and children have the sympathy of the entire community in their
affliction.
She
is survived by her husband and seven children, two boys, William and Henry,
and five little daughters, Catherine, Marguerite, Mildred, Agnes.
Her funeral was held from St. Mary's church. Interment will be in Calvary
Cemetery.
At 41 years of age Sarah
became the mother of Dorothy Sarah Fogarty

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM tomorrow at 20 Atwater Place for Mrs.
Ina Tiffany Fogarty, 71, Canandaigua resident who died suddenly Saturday in
Brockport, where she was visiting a daughter, Mrs. Fred Cramer.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Cramer, Mrs. W. A. Ryan,
and Mrs. Frank Andrews, Canandaigua, and Mrs. Clement Donoghue Rochester,
also two sons, Policeman Rolland B. Tiffany, Canandaigua, and Norman
Tiffany, Buffalo, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Mrs. Ina
Tiffany Fogarty, 71, of this city, died suddenly of a heart attack this
morning in Brockport, where she was visiting her daughter, Mrs. Fred Cramer.
Born in Bristol, she had been a lifelong resident of Ontario County,
more recently making her home with her daughter, Mrs. W. A. Ryan.
Survivors are
four daughters and two sons, Mrs. Cramer, Mrs. Clement Donohue,
Rochester, Mrs. Frank Andrews, Mrs. Ryan, and Patrolman Roland B. Tiffany,
Canandaigua, and Norman Tiffany, Buffalo, nine grandchildren, and one great
grandchild.
Funeral services
will be held Tuesday at 2 PM from the home of Mrs. Ryan, 20 Atwater Place, the
Rev. Stephen S. Pratt, pastor of Chapin Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

became the mother of Hazel Lucretia Tiffany

Miss
Josephine Agnes Fogarty and Charles Constant Henderson, both of this city,
were married at St. Mary's rectory Monday. Rev. William H Darcy, rector
of the church performed the ceremony in the presence of the immediate relatives.
The
bride was attended by Miss Madeline Broderick, of this city, and Lewis
Henderson, brother of the groom was best man. Mr. and Mrs. Henderson left
immediately for a trip to New York. They will spend the summer at the Lapham
cottage East Lake shore

living in Washington, DC, and was a barber. His mother's name appears as
Mollie Hamilton but really was Mary Jane. Dorothy was a clerk. Record
number at the Archives in Hopewell is 106.

of the Affidavit for License to Marry and Marriage License are found on PG 2N
and PG 2O in the book, A Tree Trunk. Canandaigua City clerk office record number
932 states, he is listed as a Barber on the license. Witnesses were shown as Leo
H. Breen of Canandaigua, and Agnes J. Henderson, Canandaigua.

Sarah Dorothy Fogarty, daughter of James Fogarty, and Edward M.
Breen of Washington, D. C., son of Cornelius Breen of this city, were
married at St. Mary's church on Thursday morning, Rev. William H. Darcy
performing the nuptial mass. Mrs. Charles Henderson, sister of the bride,
was matron of honor. The new Breen's will reside in Washington.

OBITUARY - James E.
Fogarty Sr., 57, Seneca Drive, died yesterday at Thompson Hospital.
Mr. Fogarty was a member of St. Mary's Church and past member
of the Canandaigua American Legion Post 256, and past member of the Elks Lodge.
He served with the United States Army during the Korean War. He was employed by
the Canandaigua Post Office and was a car salesman in the area for many years. At the time of his death he was employed by the
Canandaigua Veterans Administration Medical Center.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Dean Fogarty, four sons, Sgt. James Jr. of Pensacola, Fla, Timothy, Kevin, and Michael, all of Canandaigua, his mother, Mrs. William Blanche Fogarty of Canandaigua, a brother, Ronald of Shortsville, a sister, Mrs. Paul Anne McGuane of Interlaken, three grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. His body was interred 1986 Canandaigua, New York, Woodlawn Cemetery.

Mrs.
VanDenbergh, wife of the late Peter
VanDenbergh, died at her home in this place last Thursday. Mrs.
VanDenbergh had been sick for a good while and has suffered a great deal.
She had lived in this vicinity for a great many years, and was a consistent
member of the Presbyterian Church here for over forty one years.
A
large circle of friends mourn her loss. Her
body was
interred 1877 Victor, New York, Victor Village Cemetery

VanDenbergh
in
Saratoga, New York, November 24, 1819.
Peter was born in Hoosick, Rensselear Co. N. Y. November 20, 1792.[i] Peter was the son of Winant C. VanDenbergh and Sarah Harmense Fort. Peter died February 21, 1877 Victor, New York, at 84 years of age. [i]. Dutch Reformed Church Records of Schaghticoke, Page 220, Batch number c510331.His obituary stated he was born in Hoosick, NY.

VICTOR - Mr. Peter VanDenbergh, an old and respected citizen of this place, died at his home in the village, on Wednesday morning at seven o'clock.

We
are again called upon to record the death of one of our oldest and most
respected citizens. Mr. Peter VanDenbergh
died at his residence, in this village, on February 21st, at seven o'clock in
the morning. Mr. VanDenbergh was born in the town of Hoosick, Rensselear
county, in 1792.
He
removed to the town of Farmington in the spring of 1835, and as he moved with
wagons, was ten days on the road. He purchased what was known as the Tim
Allen farm, upon which he resided until the spring of 1876, when he sold it
to his two sons, and purchased a residence a short distance east of this
village.
He
was a man of remarkably strong constitution, which successfully resisted the
inroads of disease until the very last, but finally yielding to the weight of
years, the oil in the lamp of life was exhausted, and, like a shock of grain
fully ripe, he has passed to his reward. He experienced religion early in life,
and was a member of the Presbyterian church in this village for many years.
He was a kind father and obliging neighbor, and leaves a large circle of friends and relatives to mourn his loss. The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church on Friday morning, Feb. 23rd, at 11 o'clock. The sermon was preached by the Rev. Mr. Ennis, from the text, "Weep not for me, but for yourselves and for your children", which was selected by the deceased, as was also the funeral anthem which was sung at the services.
His body was interred 1877 Victor, New York, Victor Village Cemetery
