L. Gerould, 83, 172 N. Main Street, died this AM January 21, 1957 in the
Thompson Hospital following a long illness.
He was the husband of Gertrude G. Potter Gerould.
He was born in the town of Gorham, March 13, 1873. He was the son of the late Horace and Olive Griswold Gerould. He was a retired cattle dealer and farmer, a member of the Methodist Church and Canandaigua Grange, and past Supervisor of the Town of Canandaigua.
Survivors besides his wife are a daughter, Mrs. A. Morrise Gifford of Canandaigua, two grandsons, Robert G. Gifford, of Smithtown, LI, and Wesley A. Gifford, Canandaigua, and two granddaughters. Burial at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Canandaigua, will take place at the Methodist parsonage, Saturday afternoon. Rev.
Stephen S. Pratt officiating.
Following
the ceremony a wedding dinner will be served at the home of the bride's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Scott Gerould, on the Rochester Road.

A.
Morris Gifford, 89, died yesterday, June 8, at the Canandaigua Veterans
Administration Medical Center. A lifelong resident of Canandaigua, Mr. Gifford was a well known
building contractor and built many homes on Canandaigua Lake from the mid 1930's
until his retirement in 1970.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church and served on
the board of directors and the board of trustees of the church.
He was a past master of the
Canandaigua Masonic Lodge and former member of the YMCA board of directors.
Surviving are his wife, Esther Gifford of Canandaigua, two sons, Robert G. Gifford of Carmel, California, and Wesley A. Gifford of Canandaigua, a sister, Mabel Poreca of Rochester, three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and two nieces. He was predeceased by a brother, R. Leslie Gifford. There will be no prior calling hours, and burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.

EAST BLOOMFIELD GIFFORD
BUCKELEW
The
marriage of Miss Catherine Augusta
Buckelew, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur G. Buckelew of Holcomb, and George
Stetson Gifford, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gifford of Newark, Delaware,
took place at noon Friday, December 23, at the home of the bride's parents.
Rev. Roy F. Gamble, pastor of the Congregational church of East
Bloomfield officiated.
The
bride wore a gown of hyacinth blue sheer crepe and carried an arm bouquet of
white chrysanthemums. Her sister, Miss Ruth Buckelew, as maid of honor,
was gowned in Nassau blue crepe. DeWitt Mowry, of East Bloomfield, was
best man.
Preceding
the ceremony, Miss Ruth Buckelew played Christmas carols and accompanied Mrs.
James Gibson of Stanley, college roommate of the bride, in the singing of It
Came upon the Midnight Clear, and I Love You Truly. The bride's sister, Miss
Edith Buckelew, played the wedding party and Miss Mary Elizabeth Buckelew
acted as escort to the wedding party. Christmas trees and wreaths and ropes of
greens were used in the house decorations. The table centerpiece was of greens
and pine cones with red.
Following
a wedding trip to Washington, DC
and Delaware, Mr. and Mrs. Gifford will make their home in Oneida.
Out
of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. George Sheeler and children, Mae,
Ivan and Arthur, of Mendon, Mr. and Mrs. James Gibson, of Stanley, Mr.
and Mrs. Burton Deuel of Honeoye, and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Buckelew, of
Bristol, and Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Hanselman, of Maryville.
Catherine
Augusta Buckelew was born
Bristol, New York April 09, 1908. Catherine
was the daughter of Arthur Garfield Buckelew
and Augusta Sheeler. Catherine
died July 29, 1975 Canandaigua, New
York, at 67 years of age.
GORHAM - CATHERINE GIFFORD
Catherine
B. Gifford, 67, active in cooperative extension work for a number of years,
died yesterday at Thompson Hospital following a long illness.
She
formerly resided at West Swamp Road, Gorham. Born in Bristol, she was the
daughter of Arthur and Augusta Buckelew and was the widow of George
Stetson Gifford.
A
1925 graduate of East Bloomfield High School, Mrs. Gifford was graduated
from Cornell University in 1929 and was a member of Phi Betta Kappa. She was
employed as an agent with the Madison County Extension Service from 1929 to 1933
and in Yates County from 1956 to 1962. She was a member of the Ontario County
Home Bureau and the Bethel Baptist Church of Gorham.
Survivors
include three daughters, Mrs. Bruce Martha Allen of Penn Yan, Mrs.
Douglas Carolyn Seymour of Jamestown, and Mrs. Jay Gladys Malborough of
Buffalo, a son, Roy of Spokane Washington, three sisters, Mrs. DeWitt
Ruth Mowry of Holcomb, Mrs. Ralph Edith Harris of Penn Yan, and Mrs.
Charles Mary Elizabeth Wynand of Rochester, and four grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Saturday at the Bethel Baptist church with burial in Gorham Cemetery.

TWO DEATHS RECORDED
Samuel Douglass, aged resident passed away
At
2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon occurred the death of Samuel Douglass, at
the home of his son, F. G. Douglass, Chapin Street. Mr. Douglass
had suffered from heart trouble for several years, but had been able to be about
the house almost to the end. Deceased was born in Pittstown, Rensselear County, March 5,
1825, and had he lived until next Monday, would have been 81 years of age.
About
60 years ago he married Waity Gifford, and 49 years ago they removed to
this town, living for a short time on a farm on the East side of the lake, when Mr.
Douglass purchased the handsomely situated farm on the West lake shore road,
which has since been his home. During the past two winters he and Mrs.
Douglass had lived with their son in the village.
Mr.
Douglass was a staunch Democrat, and while he had no political ambitions, he
was always well posted and was a reliable and dependable member of his party. He
served one term as town assessor. Besides his wife, who at almost exactly his
age, is well and strong, there survive six children, Mrs. Caroline A.
Warfield, Mrs. Isaiah Case, Miss Mary Douglass, F. G. Douglass, Mrs. Ira P.
Cribb, and James S. Douglass, all of this town. One brother, John
Douglass of Troy, also survives.
Mr. Douglass was a member of the Methodist Church, and his pastor, Rev. Ward Mosher will officiate at the funeral service this afternoon. At Mr. Douglass' request, made some time ago, six of his stalwart grandsons will bear the body to it's last resting place. They are, H. D. Warfield, Freed D. Cribb, Samuel M., Ray, Everitt, and James Douglass. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

OBITUARY
LEVI GIFFORD
The
funeral of Levi Gifford occurred from his late residence near Canandaigua
at 2 PM, on Thursday, and was largely attended by friends from the immediate vicinity,
also Middlesex, Pittstown, Cohoes, NY, and Williamsport, Pa.
Rev. Theron Green, of the ME church, officiated, and Mr.
Gifford being a member of that church for the past nine years.
Levi
Gifford was born in Pittstown, Rensselear County, NY, December 23, 1818, and
came to Ontario County nearly fifty years ago, where he has since resided.
Mr.
Gifford was thrice married, and leaves a widow and two sons, N. J. and D.
D. Gifford, also six daughters, all of whom are married, Mrs. John
Douglass, Pittstown, NY, Mrs. John Sanford, Gorham, NY, Mrs. A. J.
Cooley, and Mrs. Edward Spangle, Canandaigua, Mrs. Samuel Bates,
Syracuse, Mrs. M. S. Eldon, Williamsport, Pa. Two brothers, Ira and
Charles Gifford, live at Pittstown, and one brother, Nathaniel Gifford,
and one sister, Mrs. Samuel Douglass, reside near Canandaigua.
For
two or three years Mr. Douglass had been failing in health, and for some
weeks previous to his death was very much troubled with sleeplessness, and on
November 12th he was overcome by shock of paralysis, but lived until the 19th,
when he passed away.
During
the week he lived he never spoke, though his mind was clear to the last, and he
by signs gave directions to his family, and to his pastor gave evidence of
strong faith in God and hope of a blessed future life.

OBITUARY - GIFFORD
Friday
last at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. D. Spangle, Bristol Street,
with whom she resided, the death occurred of Mrs. Mary Jane Gifford,
widow of Levi Gifford, aged seventy one years and eleven months. Mrs. Gifford was born in Amsterdam, NY, September 17, 1834,
and came to this section about sixty years ago.
She
is survived by five daughters, Mrs. John P. Sanford, of Rushville,
Mrs. O. J. Cooley, of Canandaigua, Mrs. S. G. Bates, of Syracuse, Mrs.
E. D. Spangle, of Canandaigua, and M. S. Eldon, of Bayonne, NJ, two
sons, N. J. and D. D. Gifford, of this place, a step daughter, Mrs.
John Douglass, of Troy, NY, one brother, David Dayton Gifford, of
Honolulu, Sanwich Islands, and thirteen grandchildren.
Mrs. Gifford had been in ill health with nervous complaint for some time and her death was not unexpected. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon from the residence of Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Spangle, Rev. Ward Mosher officiating and interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery.

The
death of Nathaniel A. Gifford occurred at his home a few miles North East
of this village on Friday. The deceased was 73 years of age. He had been an
invalid for many months, having suffered a paralytic stroke, and the recurrence
of the stroke caused his death.
He
is survived by his wife, three sons, Charles, Dudley, and George, two
daughters, Mrs. Charles Keene and Mrs. A. L. Mabbitt, both of Rochester,
and an aged brother, Ira Gifford of Troy. The funeral was held from his
late home on Monday afternoon. The services were conducted by Rev. J. Wallace
Webb, D. D.

Obituary Gifford
Mrs.
Mary S. Gifford, widow of Nathaniel J. Gifford, died at the home of
her daughter, Mrs. Charles Mabbett, at Rochester, on Friday, aged 76
years. Mrs. Gifford had been
afflicted with a cancerous trouble for several years, and her sufferings had
been intense. During those years she had been tenderly cared for by her two
daughters, Mrs. Charles Keene and Mrs. Mabbett.
The remains were brought here, and funeral services were held from the undertaking rooms of Gillett and Kennedy, on Monday morning, Rev. Dr. J. Wallace Webb officiating. Mrs. Gifford had resided in this town for many years. The homestead was situated north of the village. After the death of her husband, she made her home with Mrs. Mabbett at Rochester.
She leaves besides her two daughters, three sons, Douglass Gifford, of California, George Gifford, of Chicago, Ill., and Charles Gifford, who resides on the homestead.

L. Mabbett, in her 86th year.
She
is survived by nieces and nephews. Edith
Keene Hendrik, Elizabeth Keene Englehardt, Robert Leslie Gifford, Alfred Morris
Gifford, Mabel Gifford Porreca; three grand-nieces, four grandnephews,
one great-grandniece. Mrs.
Mabbett was a member of the Central Presbyterian
Church for more than 50 years.
Memorial services will be held at Hedges Memorial Chapel Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock. Flowers gratefully declined."

years, a retired farmer, occurred at his home on Granger Street Monday PM
following a long illness. Mr. Gifford was born in Rensselear County, coming to
Canandaigua when about 14 years old.
He
is survived by his wife, Hattie VanGelder
Gifford, two sons and a daughter, Leslie and Morris Gifford and Miss
Mabel Gifford of this city, also by two sisters, Mrs. Charles Keene and
Mrs. Alonzo Mabbett of Rochester. Burial in Woodlawn.

Harriet J. Gifford, 90, oldest member of Chapin Methodist Church, died unexpectedly
yesterday, Nov 16, 1949, at the home of a son, R. Leslie Gifford, North
Road, Canandaigua RD 4. Mrs. Gifford, widow of Charles Gifford, was born
August 28, 1859, and had always been a resident of New York State.
Her parents were
the late Alfred and Mary Dean VanGelder.
She lived in this vicinity many years and was active in church affairs
until her death.
Survivors
include a daughter, Mrs. H. C. Porreca, West Henrietta, two sons, R.
Leslie Gifford, Canandaigua Town, and A. Morris Gifford, Canandaigua
City, two brothers, J. Edgar VanGelder, California, and B. Emerson
VanGelder, Wilmington, Del., also four grandchildren, and several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services
will be held tomorrow in the Kennedy Funeral Chapel, this city, with the Rev.
Robert Green, Chapin, and the Rev. Lloyd V. Moffit, Canandaigua,
Methodist pastors officiating. Burial will be Woodlawn Cemetery, here.

GIFFORD - GOURLAY
The
marriage of Miss Orrene Relief Gourlay, assistant superintendent of
Thompson Memorial Hospital, and Robert Leslie Gifford of Canandaigua,
took place at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mark C. Gourlay
of Victor, on Wednesday afternoon, June 15th.
Rev. Stephen S. Pratt, pastor of the Canandaigua Methodist church,
performed the ceremony in the presence of about 70 guests.
The
bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a gown of white flat crepre
with tulle veil arranged in Spanish comb effect, caught with a bandeau of pearls
and lilies of the valley. Her shower bouquet was of bride roses and lilies of the
valley.
She
was attended by her sister, Miss Ethel Gourlay, who wore yellow rosebuds.
The best man was LeVerne Darling of Geneva. Mrs. Eli Gourlay of
Victor aunt of the bride, played the wedding marches.
Immediately
after the ceremony the bridal party received the guests, standing before an arch
of peonies and daises banked with palms and ferns. Quantities of peonies,
daises, roses, and other seasonal flowers were effectively arranged about the
spacious rooms, a color scheme of pink and yellow predominating.
Dinner was served at small tables, pink rosebuds centering the bride's
table, laid for four, and pink and yellow rosebuds were used on the remaining
tables. Associates of the bride on the Memorial hospital staff assisted in
serving.
After
two weeks wedding trip, Mr. and Mrs. Gifford will reside on the groom's
farm on the Norris Road, Canandaigua. Mr. Gifford is employed at the
Lehigh Valley railroad transfer station in Manchester.
