Thomas Michael² Radford was born Baltimore, Md July 28, 1946. He married Nancy Lee Hanley Crofton, Md., September 12, 1970.

BIRTHS - HANLEY At F. F. Thompson Hospital, July 28, 1949, a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Albert F. Hanley Jr., of South Main Street. Nancy is the daughter of Albert Francis Jr. Hanley and Lena Louise Bal .

Bertha Radloff was born in Illinois September 1873. She married Thomas J. Hanley in Chicago, Illinois, 1896.^[i] Thomas was born Canandaigua, New York February 20, 1870. Thomas was the son of John Charles Hanley and Catherine Madden. Thomas died March 29, 1904 Chicago, Ill., at 34 years of age. [i]. Bertha's name appears in Thomas death notice in the Chicago newspaper. After Bertha Hanley it had nee Radloff.

ONTARIO COUNTY JOURNAL Fri. April 1, 1904

Thomas J. Hanley died at his home in Chicago on Tuesday, aged about 33 years. Deceased was a Canandaigua boy, widely and favorably known, who went to Chicago many years ago, learned the plumbing business and prospered until cut down by illness.

He is survived by his wife, one brother, William Hanley of this place, Canandaigua, who attended the funeral in Chicago, and two sisters, Mrs. John Long, Julia, and Mrs. N. H. Regan, Lillian, of New Jersey.

Sent for and received a newspaper notice of his death from the Chicago area, HANLEY THOMAS J., beloved husband of Bertha Hanley, nee Radloff. Funeral Thursday, at 2 PM, from late residence, 2222 State Street, to Oakwoods. Member of Atlas Lodge 261, I.O.O.F., and Timoleon Lodge K.O.P., and Apollo tent K.O.T.M., No. 63. 1035 East 67th Street 6700 South. This was obtained through the Newberry Library.

DIED - HANLEY - At Chicago, Illinois, March 29, 1904, Thomas J. Hanley, formerly of Canandaigua.

His body was interred 1904 in Chicago, Illinois, Oakwoods Cemetery

Newell H.² Ragan was born in Morencia, Michigan 1867.

He married Lillian M. Hanley Canandaigua, New York, January 03, 1894.^[ii] Record number 1178 at Canandaigua City Clerk Office. Married by Rev. D. English. [ii]. A copy of the church record can be found on PG 1D in the book, A Tree Trunk.

Lewis Hyram³ Randall was born Newark, New York November 30, 1918. Lewis died May 17,1963 Elmira, New York, at 44 years of age. He married twice.

NEWARK - Lewis H. Randall of 100 Bloomer Ave., Elmira, a native of Newark, died Friday, May 17, 1963 in Elmira. He was 44. Mr. Randall was born Nov. 30, 1918, a son of Lewis H. and Dorothy Mae Randall. He attended Newark schools and had been employed at the Corning Glass Works.

A World War II veteran, Mr. Randall was a member of the American Legion and VFW posts in Elmira. Surviving are his widow, Margaret Armstrong Randall of Elmira, two daughters, Mrs. Rhuel Hibbard, of Newark, and Kathleen Randall of Clifton Springs, and one son Lewis H. Randall 3rd of Rochester, one brother, Arthur B. Williams of Newark, and one granddaughter.

A service will be held Monday in the Olthof Funeral Home in Elmira, with burial in Elmira. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. His body was interred May 1963 Elmira, New York, Woodlawn Military Cemetery.

He married twice. He married Katherine Marie Norsen. Katherine was born February 25, 1921. Katherine was the daughter of Charles Lewis Norsen and Sophie M Bremer. Katherine died September 20, 1988 Manchester, New York, at 67 years of age.

At 24 years of age Katherine became the mother of Kathleen Randall Manchester, New York, April 02, 1945.

BIRTH RECORD - RANDALL - At F. F. Thompson Hospital, April 2, 1945, a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Randall, Manchester.

John¹ Rannie was born in Aberdeenshire, Scotland 1815.^[iii] John died February 20, 1887 in Palmyra, New York, at 71 years of age. [iii]. This is on his grave marker, A native of Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

OBITUARY RANNIE

Mr. John Rannie, an old and well known citizen of Palmyra, dropped dead at the Cumming House in that place on Sunday evening at about nine o'clock. Mr. Rannie had been in his usual health, although he sustained a severe fall on the icy pavements about two weeks ago.

He married Anne M. Bales. Anne was born Devonshire, England August 1815. Anne was the daughter of William Bales and Elizabeth. Anne died December 30, 1899 Canandaigua, New York, at 84 years of age. ^[iv] [iv]. Canandaigua City clerk office record number 1332.The death record shows her father to be William Ells, of England. It also states she was a widow, and came to the US 33 years ago.

ONTARIO COUNTY JOURNAL January 5, 1900

Mrs. Anne M. Rannie died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Alexander Grieve, Chapin Street on Saturday after an illness of 10 weeks. Mrs. Rannie was born in Devonshire, England 84 years ago. She had been in this country about 33 years. Two daughters survive her, Mrs. Alexander Grieve and Mrs. W. M. Smith, Gorham Street.

Her death record shows her father to be William Ells, but her grave marker shows Bales as a surname.

DIED - RANNIE At Canandaigua, December 30, 1899, Mrs. Anne M. Rannie, widow of John Rannie, aged 84 years and 4 months.

Jane Rannie was born London, England September 1843. Birthplace found in her obituary. Jane died April 12, 1903 Canandaigua, New York, at 59 years of age.

Death of Mrs. Alexander Grieve. Passed away suddenly on Easter Evening.

Death has suddenly entered another Canandaigua home, and this time has taken a wife and mother. Mrs. Alexander Grieve passed away without a moment's warning at the family home on Gibson Street on Easter evening.

She had come in from attending evening services at the Presbyterian church and to her bedroom to lay aside her wraps. Mr. Grieve was in the sitting room adjoining the bedroom when he heard Mrs. Grieve fall, and going to her assistance found her lifeless on the floor. Dr. F. P. Warner and Dr. O. J. Hallenbeck answered the hurried call, and found that death was caused by paralysis of the heart.

The announcement of the death of Mrs. Grieve was received with surprise and sincere sorrow throughout the village. For those friends and acquaintances who had seen her in her accustomed seat at the morning and evening Easter services at the Presbyterian church, and who had received her friendly greeting, it was hard to believe that the span of her life could have broken off so suddenly.

Mrs. Grieve had been unusually well during the past few weeks. The anxiety connected with her husband's recent serious illness from pneumonia had not been the slightest symptom of the approach of the fatal trouble.

Mrs. Jane Rannie Grieve was born in London, England, 59 years ago. In 1863 she went to Palmyra, where on May 26, 1871, her marriage to Mr. Grieve took place. In 1880 the family took up residence in Canandaigua, and have become prominently identified with its life.

Mrs. Grieve leaves her husband and two daughters, Mrs. George T. Thompson and Mrs. George D. Wood, to whom she was peculiarly devoted. To them did she give her love and thoughts and they alone can tell the measure of the richness and fullness of her life.

She possessed a cheerful disposition, which made her ever prone to look upon the bright side of life and which won her many friends. From them a loving tribute to her memory springs spontaneously. Her friends were always welcomed to her home with gracious hospitality, and it gave her genuine pleasure to have them near her. Mrs. Grieve was a member of the Presbyterian church and was interested in its welfare and prosperity.

The funeral was largely attended from the family residence on Wednesday afternoon. The services were conducted by the Rev. Arthur Dougall. The bearers were Harrison B. Ferguson, Alexander Davidson, Ralph S. Wisner, James Davidson, Willet M. Spangle, and Herman VanVechten. The interment was in Woodlawn.

The Death Notice in the same paper said she was aged 59 years, seven months. Her body was interred 1902 Canandaigua, New York, Woodlawn Cemetery. Section 6.

She married Alexander Grieve in Palmyra, New York, May 26, 1871. Alexander was born in Turriff, Scotland September 16, 1844. Alexander was the son of Alexander Grieve and Jessie Ogg. Alexander died December 13, 1907 Canandaigua, New York, at 63 years of age.^[v] [v]. Canandaigua City clerk office record number 4170.

DIED - GRIEVE At Canandaigua Dec. 13, 1907, Alexander Grieve, aged 63 years 2 months and 27 days.

Death of Alexander Grieve A Native of Scotland, He became Successful Cracker Manufacturer in this Village. The funeral services of Alexander Grieve, whose death was briefly announced in The Journal of last week, were held from his late residence on Gibson Street on Sunday afternoon at 3 PM, Rev. Louis M. Sweet officiating.

There was a large attendance of friends and business associates of Mr. Grieve. The various organizations to which Mr. Grieve belonged were also represented. A quartet, composed of Mr. and Mrs. Robert F. Thompson, Mrs. Harriet Sterling and H. I. Dunton, sang Nearer My God to Thee, and Abide With Me. The bearers were Ralph S. Wisner, Harrison B. Ferguson, Herman VanVechten, Lewis T. Sutherland, and Hiram L. Hutchens, and Robert Bareham, of Palmyra.

The remains were placed in Woodlawn. In the death of Alexander Grieve, Canandaigua has lost a good citizen. He was public spirited and lent his interests and his aid to all projects for the welfare of the village. His splendid business qualifications, which were the foundation of his successful career, gave an authority to his advice and counsel. As trustee and president of the village, he served wisely and well, safeguarding the interests of the people.

A wholeheartedness characterized his service, whether public or private. Mr. Grieve was born in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, in 1844. He came to this country in 1869, settling near Palmyra, where he was employed on a farm, until he began farming in his own interests. His marriage to Miss Jane Ranney took place in 1871, and they continued to reside at Palmyra until 1877, when they removed to this village and Mr. Grieve became interested in the bakery business with his brother in law, William M. Smith under the firm name of W. M. Smith and Co.

In 1882 he sold out his share in the business and started a cracker factory at Syracuse, which he sold within a short time, advantageously and again resumed his interests in the Smith bakery. In 1888, at the death of Mr. Smith, he became the sole owner, and during the years until 1905, when he sold the business to his nephew, George Walker, and Edward J. Tracy, the business flourished and the Smith crackers gained a world wide reputation.

Mr. Grieve was a large stockholder in the El Canto Rubber Plantation company and was its president at the time of his death. He was a member of the Canandaigua Lodge, No. 294, F A M and of the Scottish society of Rochester. He was a member of the Mutual Hook and Ladder company, and acted as its foreman from 1883 to 1890.

He was a devoted member of the Presbyterian church, and had been a member of its board of trustees for many years. He gave largely to its support. In his home life Mr. Grieve's true character revealed itself and is the highest tribute to his memory. He gave to his family a devotion and love that were returned in large measure, and only his two daughters, Mrs. George T. Thompson and Mrs. George D. Wood, know how great is their loss.

His wife died suddenly on Easter evening, April 12, 1903. He leaves one brother, George Grieve, of Rochester, and two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Walker of Rochelle, Ill., and Mrs. Morrison, of Turriff, Scotland.

His body was interred 1907 Canandaigua, New York, Woodlawn Cemetery.

William Busby² Rayburn was born 1925. His body was interred Canandaigua, New York, Calvary Cemetery. He married Margaret M. Redfern Canandaigua, New York, August 24, 1946.

RAYBURN - REDFERN

In St. Mary's Church, Saturday, August 24, took place the marriage of Miss Margaret M. Redfern, daughter of Mrs. Mary Redfern, South Main Street, to William B. Rayburn, Hubbell Street, son of Mrs. Elizabeth Rayburn, Rochester, and Earl Rayburn, Marathon, formerly of Canandaigua. The Rev. William L. Reed received the vows.

Given in marriage by her brother, George F. Redfern, the bride was attended by her sister, Mrs. Emmett Finagan, Jr., Lafayette Highway. Edward B. Andross, cousin of the bridegroom, was best man and ushers were Walter Mace and William A. Sage, this city.

A wedding breakfast was served to 28 at McKenzies Lake View Inn, East Lake Road. The bride's cake, the bridal bouquets and candelabra decorated the table. A reception for 150 guests was held in the home of the bride's mother.

After a trip to New York City, Mr. and Mrs. Rayburn will live in Canandaigua. The bridegroom served 33 months with the Navy Air Corps, including 11 months in the Pacific Theater. Both he and his bride attended St. Mary's school and Canandaigua Academy.

Margaret was born Canandaigua, New York April 28, 1925.

ONTARIO COUNTY TIMES Wednesday April 29, 1925

BIRTHS - REDFERN - At Memorial Hospital April 28, 1925, to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Redfern of Pleasant Street, a daughter.

Margaret was the daughter of Francis George Redfern and Mary Jean Murphy.

Margaret died December 30, 1997 Canandaigua, New York, at 72 years of age.

ROCHESTER DEMOCRAT and CHRONICLE

CANANDAIGUA - Margaret Peg Rayburn, 72, of Fallbrook Park, died Tuesday, December 30, 1997 at Thompson Hospital. Mrs. Rayburn was born April 28, 1925 in Canandaigua, and was the daughter of Francis and Mary Murphy Redfern. She was a graduate of Canandaigua Academy, class of 1944, and had been a member of St. Mary's Church.

While living in Kenosha, Wisconsin, she had been active with many civic and community organizations.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, William B. Rayburn, a daughter, and son in law, Kathleen and Kevin Burris of Bloomingdale, Illinois, three sons and a daughter in law, John Rayburn of Canandaigua, William and Amy Rayburn of Kirkville, and James Rayburn of Bloomfield, six grandchildren, Steve, Paul, Kristen, Jennifer, Glenn, Amanda, Erica and Mark, and three great grandchildren, Kevin, Sarah, and Dominick. She was predeceased by her son, Stephen in 1950. Friends may call at Kennedy at 15 Bristol Street. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
