RECORD  - REDFERN

John Record and Lizzie Batchelor  had the following child:

 Myrle Batchelor2 Record was born Shortsville, New York 1899.  He married Catherine Gertrude Drury Shortsville, New York, February 10, 1927.[i]   [i]. Ontario County Archive marriage record Number 149. Witnesses were Mrs. Isabel King, and Irving Record.

            WEDDING  BELLS  Record -  Drury

Announcement is made of the marriage of Miss Gertrude Drury, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Drury, of Farmington, to Myrle Record, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Record of Shortsville, on Thursday, at St. Dominick's rectory in Shortsville. The wedding vows were pledged before Rev. J. J. Ganey, pastor of the church. 

 The bride was attired in  champagne crepe de chine with hat to match. She carried a bridal bouquet of sweet peas, tullips, and freeshas. The  bridesmaid, Mrs. William King of Shortsville, a sister of the bride, wore grey canton crepe with hat to match.  The groom  was attended by his brother Irving Record of Shortsville. 

A wedding breakfast was served by the bride's sister, Mrs.  William King. Covers were laid for twenty guests, all being seated at the bride's table. Mr. and Mrs. Record left after the  breakfast on a short eastern trip.  They will be at home to their friend's at Shortsville on or about the 15th of February.  A  variety shower was given by Mrs. Henry Sadler at the home of Mrs. William King in Shortsville. 

Cornelia Jane2 Reddington  was born Cameron, New York July 1858.[ii]  Cornelia died December 24, 1889 Canandaigua, New York, at 31 years of age.[iii]  Record number 66 at City Clerk Office.  [ii]. Place of birth given on her death certificate.[iii]. City Clerk Record number 666, shows father as Thomas T. Reddington, Ireland, and mother as Marian Pierson. This does not agree with facts found on marriage record for Helen.

The many friends of Mrs. J. M. VanDenbergh of this village are grieved to learn of her sudden death, which occurred at her home on West Gibson St. Tuesday morning. In her self sacrificing care of her little boy, who was recently afflicted with congestion of the lungs, she contracted a severe cold, which finally took the form of pneumonia. Although known to be seriously ill, the news of her death is a sad shock to her friends.

She was a highly respected member of the Baptist Church, and leaves a husband and two small children. Her body was interred 1889 Canandaigua, New York, Woodlawn Cemetery. She married Jacob Shulters VanDenbergh.

                     Jacob was born Hoosick, New York February 26, 1826.[iv]  Jacob was the son of Philip VanDenbergh and Elizabeth Shulters.  He married Cornelia Jennie Ferris Lima, New York, October 07, 1890.[v]   [iv]. Found this record on microfilm Voshberg collection of church baptisms.[v]. Marriage record at Lima, NY Town Hall, line 28. Shows her age to be 44 years, 1st marriage, and Jacob, age 64, 4th marriage.

 LIMA - The marriage of Miss Jennie Ferris of Rochester, formerly of Lima, to Mr. Jacob VanDenbergh of Canandaigua, took place at the home of the sisters of the bride, Misses Ellen and Nancy Ferris, in this village on Tuesday afternoon at seven o'clock. Mr. and Mrs. VanDenbergh left that evening for their home in Canandaigua.

 MARRIAGES     VANDENBURGH -  FERRIS  At Lima October 07, 1890 by Rev. Mr.  Willoughby, Jacob Vandenburgh of Canandaigua and Jennie Ferris of Lima.

                      Jacob died December 12, 1911 Canandaigua, New York, at 85 years of age.[vi]  Death Registered number 312 at Canandaigua, New York,  City Clerk office. Listed are Phillip and Elizabeth as parents. Jennie was listed as the informant on the certificate.   [vi]. Canandaigua City clerk office record shows he was born February 26, 1826, and the informant for the death record information was his wife, Mrs. J. S. VanDenbergh. She gave an address at 113 West Gibson which was the family home.

                                     Aged Veteran Passes Away at Canandaigua

Dec. 12, 1911, Jacob Shulters Vandenbergh died at his home on West Gibson Street about 12:15 o'clock this morning, aged 85 years. He was born in Hoosick, NY, February 26, 1826. He was twice married. (4 times per marriage Cert)

His first wife was Miss Jane Reddington, and his last wife was Miss Jennie Ferris, to whom he was united in 1890. During the Civil War, he served as a nurse and was attached to the ambulance corps. For the greater part of his lifetime he has been a resident of this village and vicinity.   

He leaves his wife and two children, Philip L. Vandenbergh, of Rochester, and Mrs. Helen Scanlon, of Boston. The funeral will be held from the late residence, No. 113 Gibson Street on Thursday afternoon with the Rev. Guy L. Morrill pastor of the local Presbyterian church officiating. Interment will be made in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Jacob S. VanDenberg - The death of Jacob S. VanDenberg occurred on Monday night at his home on West Gibson Street, after a four weeks illness due to a stroke of paralysis. Mr. VanDenberg was born in Hoosick in 1826, but had been a resident of this village for many years.

 He leaves his wife, who was formerly Miss Jennie Ferris of Lima, and a daughter, Mrs. Helen Scanlon, and a son, Philip L. Vandenberg. The funeral will be held from his late residence on Thursday afternoon, the Rev. Guy L. Morrill officiating. Interment at Woodlawn.

                               OBITUARY                 VANDENBERGH                   

 Jacob Shulters VanDenbergh a well known figure in Canandaigua and throughout the county by reason of his occupation as subscription agent, died at his home on W. Gibson Street on Tuesday AM aged 85 years.     Deceased was born in Hoosick on February 26, 1826.  Mr. VanDenbergh was twice married, his first wife having been Jane Reddington. In 1890 he married to Miss Jennie Ferris, who with one daughter, Mrs Helen  Scanlon, of Boston, and one son Phillip VanDenbergh of Rochester,  survive.

 Funeral services conducted by Rev. G. L. Morrill, burial at Woodlawn. Mr. VanDenbergh during the Civil War served as a nurse attached to the ambulance corps. Most of his life was spent here in this village and vicinity.   

                                       His body was interred December 1911 Canandaigua, New York, Woodlawn Cemetery.

 

 Mary Jane3 Redfern was born Ireland 1875.  Mary died December 29, 1952 at 77 years of age.  

                          DEATH   of   RESPECTED   MONEYHAW   RESIDENT

A shadow of deep gloom, was cast over a wide area at the news of the death of Mary I Moran, which took place at her residence, at Moneyhaw, Moneymore on Monday, December 29th. Deceased was a kind and highly respected lady. This was evident by the large number of people who visited her during her illness.

Every possible attention was given by Very Rev. F. Terry Adm., Doctors Fannigan and her devoted family. One daughter traveled specially from New York to be with her mother at the end. Deceased was bereaved some years ago by the death of a son and daughter, both of whom were involved in a car accident in America. The shock of this great loss seemed to linger with her forever.

 A devoted Catholic she belonged to a family that had given a number of its members to the church. The funeral which was largely attended, took place to St. Maichacy's Church, Drummullen, on Wednesday December 31st, where a Requiem Mass was celebrated by Rev. Father Terry.

The remains were subsequently interred in the family burying plot attached to the church.  The chief  mourners were Patrick Graham, USA, John Hugh and Frank Moran, sons, Anne G. Aufiero, Elizabeth G. Dobbin, USA,  Jopsephine Devlin, Teresa Vincent, daughter, Patrick and Charles Redfer, brothers, Mrs. Elizabeth Driscoll, and Mrs. Sarah Southworth, USA, sisters, H. J. Aufiero, and J. Dobbin, Peter Devlin, Joseph Vincent, sons in law, Nora Moran, daughter in law, Agnes Mary Wilson, John Joseph, Kevin, Bonnie and Mary Elizabeth Vincent, Raymond, Sheamus Agatha Anne Peter and Bernadette Devlin, Johnny and Brendan  Joseph Dobbin, Mary, Jane and Stephen Joseph Moran, grandchildren, Bobbie and Billie Wilson, great grand children, Charles Wilson. The Southworth and Redfern families, relatives.

 

  Elizabeth Redfern was born in Cullin, Ireland January 14, 1883.  Elizabeth died April 14, 1968 Canandaigua, New York, at 85 years of age.  

                                                      CANANDAIGUA DAILY MESSENGER April 15, 1968 

Mrs. Elizabeth Driscoll, 85, of 226 Pleasant St., died Sunday. A native of Ireland, Mrs. Driscoll was born January 14, 1883, the daughter of the late George and Ann Hamilton Redfern. She was a member of St. Mary's Church. 

Survivors are two sons, Ray D. Driscoll of Canandaigua and Edson J. Driscoll of Tampa, Fla., a sister, Mrs. Sarah Southworth of Rochester, and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the McElwee Funeral Home where a prayer service will be held Wednesday. Requiem Mass will follow at 9 AM in St. Mary's Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

                         Daniel R. Driscoll was born West Bloomfield, New York 1879.  Daniel was the son of Jerry Driscoll and Catherine O'Leary.  Daniel died May 10, 1944 Willard, New York, at 64 years of age.

                                                                    OBITUARY   -    DRISCOLL

Daniel Driscoll, 64, Pleasant Street, died Wednesday, May 10, 1944, at Willard State Hospital, after a long illness.  He was born in East Bloomfield, a son of Jeremiah and Catherine O'Leary Driscoll, and was a retired farmer. He had been a resident of Canandaigua for ten years.

 Besides his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Redfern Driscoll, survivors are two sons, Private Raymond D. Driscoll, technician with the Army Medical Corps,  Lordsburg, NM, and Edson J. Driscoll of Detroit Michigan, two brothers Michael Driscoll of West Bloomfield, and Timothy Driscoll of Victor, also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday from McElwee funeral chapel, and from St. Mary's Church. Interment at Calvary Cemetery.

 

Sarah Redfern was born in Belfast, Ireland March 11, 1891.  I took the birthplace as listed on the Ship Manifest when she arrived in 1906. Sarah died October 21, 1980 Canandaigua, New York, at 89 years of age.

Sara R. Southworth, 89, formerly of Pleasant Street, died at the Genesee Hospital in Rochester.  A native of Ireland, she is survived by three sons, Charles G., of Monmouth, NJ, Francis W. of Hempstead, LI, and Frederick J., of Rochester, four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.  There will be no prior calling hours. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary's Church Friday, burial in Calvary Cemetery. Her body was interred 1980 Canandaigua, New York, Calvary Cemetery. 

   She married John Frederick Southworth Canandaigua, New York, June 05, 1912.

MARRIED   SOUTHWORTH  -  REDFERN  At Canandaigua June 5, 1912, John Southworth and Miss Sarah Redfern, both of Canandaigua.

                   John was born Manchester, New York December 08, 1887.  John was the son of Charles Henry Southworth and Emma Cross.  He married 2nd Mary Jean Murphy in Erie, Penn., April 29, 1947.

    John died April 22, 1960 Canandaigua, New York, at 72 years of age. 

                      CANANDAIGUA  DAILY  MESSENGER April 25, 1960

John F. Southworth, 73, a retired employee of the Rochester Gas and Electric company, died of a heart attack Sunday at his home, 235 Center Street.  He was born in Manchester, December 8, 1887, the son of the late Charles and Emma Cross Southworth.  He had been a Canandaigua resident for many years.  He was a member of the Methodist Church, the Canandaigua Moose Lodge, and a 38 year member of the Rochester Gas and Electric Pioneer Club.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Redfern Southworth, three sons, Major Charles G. Southworth, retired, of Long Branch, NJ., Francis W. Southworth, Hempstead, LI., and Frederick J. Southworth, Rochester, two step daughters, Mrs. Emmett Finegan, Canandaigua Road, and Mrs. William Rayburn, Coatesville, Penn., a step son, George F. Redfern, Costa Mesa, Calif., 12 grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Mary L. French, Canandaigua.  Friends may call at the family home until noon Wednesday.  Interment will be made in Calvary Cemetery. 

Francis George3 Redfern  was born in Cullion, Londonderry, Ireland October 25, 1886.  Francis died April 23, 1945 Canandaigua, New York, at 58 years of age.[vii]   [vii]. Canandaigua City clerk office record number 68 on Page 194. Ward 3, 226 Pleasant Street. Record states he was divorced from Mary Murphy whose age was 50 years. The name of the informant was Catherine Finagan, Stanley Road. The date of the burial was April 25, 1945. License number 4582.

                                              OBITUARY    REDFERN

Funeral services for Francis G. Redfern, 60, who died suddenly, Monday evening, April 23, 1945, in the home of his sister, Mrs. Daniel Driscoll, Pleasant Street, were held from St. Mary's Church, Wednesday morning. Interment was made in Calvary Cemetery. 

A native of Ireland, Mr. Redfern had been a resident of Canandaigua many years.  He had been employed for some years as a painter for the New York Central Railroad Company.  Survivors are two daughters and a son, Mrs. Emmett Finagan, Jr., Stanley, RD, Miss Margaret M. and George Redfern, this city, two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Driscoll, Mrs. Sarah Southworth, Rochester, Felix and Charles Patrick Moran, Ireland, one grandson, James Redfern, Cranesville, Penn., and several nephews and nieces. His body was interred April 25, 1945 Canandaigua, New York, Calvary Cemetery.

                     He married Mary Jean Murphy Canandaigua, New York, June 29, 1916.[viii]   [viii]. Canandaigua City clerk office record number 220.

MARRIED  REDFERN - MURPHY   At Canandaigua June 29, 1916, Francis George Redfern of Buffalo and Miss Mary Jean Murphy of Canandaigua. Witnessed by Mary J. O'Brien and James Redfern. 

                 Mary was born in Galway, Ireland August 17, 1895.  Mary was the daughter of James Murphy and Marie Burke.  She married John Frederick Southworth in Erie, Penn., April 29, 1947.

           At 29 years of age Mary became the mother of Margaret M. Redfern Canandaigua, New York, April 28, 1925.

BIRTHS  -   REDFERN -  At Memorial Hospital April 28, 1925, to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Redfern of Pleasant Street, a daughter. 

Catherine Elizabeth Redfern  was born Rochester, New York January 28, 1917.  Catherine died July 28, 1988 Rochester, New York, at 71 years of age.

  OBITUARY  -  Canandaigua -  Catherine Redfern Finagan, 71, of the Geneva Turnpike, Routes 5 and 20, died today, July 28, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. She was a graduate of Canandaigua Academy and a member of St. Mary's Church, the Ontario County Women's Republican Club, the Ontario County Historical Society, and the Monday Bridge Club.  She was a volunteer at Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua. 

Surviving are her husband, Emmett S. Finagan Jr., a son, Emmett W. Finagan III, and daughter in law, Suzanne Finagan, daughters, Mrs. Robert Patricia M. Bolkosky and Mrs. David Martha Meredith, one grandson, Jason Finagan, and sister, Mrs. William B. Peg Rayburn, all of Canandaigua, and two aunts and several cousins, nieces and nephews.  There will be no prior calling hours. A memorial mass will be held Saturday at St. Mary's Church. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
