ROWLEY - RYAN

Lavinia Rowley was born 1797. Lavinia died 1830 Victor, New York, at 33 years of age. She married William Bushnell Victor, New York, December 11, 1824.

VICTOR ITEMS - The funeral services of Mr. Jireh Rowley were held at the homestead on Sunday afternoon commencing at 2 PM and the remains deposited in the family burial place. The death of Mr. Rowley was very sudden and unexpected. The particulars as we are informed are as follows, He went to Weedsport on Thursday to settle for some hay that he had purchased for shipment. Not feeling very well as soon as he concluded business he went to the station in order to take the first train to return to his home. He has always been an active business man being largely engaged in buying produce in this and adjoining towns.

Elizabeth B. Rowley was born Victor, New York July 04, 1827. Elizabeth died May 22, 1880 Victor, New York, at 52 years of age.

DIED Victor News - Mrs. Elizabeth VanDenbergh the wife of Mr. Dow VanDenbergh died after a lingering sickness at her home in Farmington on Saturday night. Mrs. VanDenbergh was a former resident of Victor and was respected and loved by a large circle of friends who mourn her loss and sympathize with the stricken family, which comprises her husband and six children. The funeral services were held at the house on Monday. Reverend Mr. Coe officiated. Her body was interred 1880 Victor, New York, Boughton Hill Cemetery.

She married Dow Fonda VanDenbergh March 11, 1847. Dow was born Buskirk Bridge, Washington County New York October 25, 1825. Dow was the son of Peter VanDenbergh and Jennett Fonda. He married Rachel M. Andrews 1882. His second marriage was to Mrs. Rachel Andrews, a former resident of Glens Falls, but a resident here at the time. Dow died January 18, 1911 Victor, New York, at 85 years of age.

DIED - VANDENBERGH - At Victor, January 13, 1911, Dow Fonda VanDenbergh, aged 85 years.

Dow Fonda VanDenbergh, aged 85 years, died at his home in Victor on Wednesday. His wife and four children survive. Funeral services will be held at the Presbyterian church at 2 PM.

His body was interred 1911 Victor, New York, Boughton Hill Cemetery

Sarah Jane Rowley was born December 25, 1830. Sarah died August 08, 1893 Victor, New York, at 62 years of age.

OBITUARY VANVECHTEN

Died at the home of her son Charles, just East of this village Tuesday morning. She had been in feeble health for about two years and a short time ago she suffered a stroke of paralysis from which she never recovered.

Mrs. VanVechten was the daughter of Mr. Andrew and Sarah Rowley, born in this town December 25, 1830. In 1848 she was married to Walter VanVechten. She leaves her son, Charles, husband, and a daughter, Mrs Frank Henry of Mertensia, also two brothers, Frank of this village, and A. B. Rowley of Jolliet Illinois. Her body was interred 1893 Victor, New York, Victor Village Cemetery. She married Walter VanVechten June 05, 1847.

Walter was born in Rensselear, Co., New York December 25, 1827.^[i] Walter was the son of Harmon W. VanVechten and Eve VanDenbergh. Walter died January 26, 1897 Victor, New York, at 69 years of age. Ontario County Journal stated in his death notice that he died at the home of his son Charles in Victor at the age of 70 years. [i]. Found this record on microfilm Voshberg church and baptisms.

Franklin⁹ Rowley was born Victor, New York October 14, 1822. Franklin died December 24, 1899 Victor, New York, at 77 years of age.

DIED - ROWLEY At Victor, December 24, 1899, Franklin Rowley, aged 77 years.

He married Jeanette M. Wilder Victor, New York, December 23, 1858. Jeanette was born January 15, 1830. Jeanette was the daughter of William W. Wilder and Ortensia . Jeanette died December 08, 1895 Victor, New York, at 65 years of age.

VICTOR - Jeanette Wilder Rowley, wife of Franklin Rowley, died at her home on Church Street, Saturday night, December 7. She was in usual health, and performed her usual duties on Saturday, and about 10 o'clock retired for the night. The next morning when Mr. Rowley awoke, he found her dead, and at once called his son, Dr. Charles Rowley. She had been dead several hours, and her death had been peaceful and painless. Dr. Mead was called and made an examination. He decided that death was due to apoplexy.

Mrs. Rowley was the second daughter of William Rowley, of South Bristol. She was married to Franklin Rowley, December 25, 1858, and the family have made Victor their home most of the time since. Besides her husband, she leaves six sons, Calvin, Charles, and George, of this place, William and Clark, of Chicago, and Frank, of Plainfield, NJ.

Mrs. Rowley was very much loved by her friends, she was devoted to the church, she was a member of the Methodist Church, and a teacher in the Sabbath school. The funeral was held in the M. E. Church on Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Mr. Hudnutt conducted the services, assisted by Rev. Mr. Frost. Music was rendered by Mrs. Powell, Mrs. Curtice, Mr. Phillips and W. F. Braco. The burial was at Boughton Hill Cemetery.

DIED - ROWLEY At Victor, December 8,1895, Mrs. Franklin Rowley, aged 68 years.

Franklin Rowley and Jeanette M. Wilder had the following children:

George D. Rowley of Rochester died in that city on March 15, 1941. He was a native of Victor, a son of the late Franklin and Jeanette, and a brother of the late Dr. Charles A. Rowley of Victor.

Mr. Rowley had lived in Rochester for 50 years, having gone there when 18 years old. He operated a grocery store from 1905 to 1908 and in more recent years conducted a home service company.

He is survived by a brother, Clark B. Rowley of Rochester, five nephews and three nieces. Funeral services were conducted in Rochester. Interment will be made later in Boughton Hill Cemetery in Victor.

Andrew Bigelow⁹ Rowley was born May 10, 1839. Andrew died October 25, 1907 Victor, New York, at 68 years of age.

VICTOR - Funeral services of Andrew Bigelow Rowley were held on Sunday afternoon at the home of his son, Frank. Rev. Loren Stiles of the Methodist Church and Rev. W. Hill of the Presbyterian Church officiated. The interment was made in the Village Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife and two sons, Frank T. of this village, and Edmund L., of Joliet, Il. He was 68 years of age. Death was caused by paralysis. His body was interred 1907 Victor, New York, Victor Village Cemetery.

Charles Andrew Dr.¹⁰ Rowley was born Victor, New York January 13, 1863. Charles died September 27, 1929 Rochester, New York, at 66 years of age.

OBITUARY - ROWLEY

Dr. Charles Andrew Rowley, aged 66 years, for more than 40 years a practicing physician in Victor, died in the Genesee Hospital, Rochester, on Friday after an illness of six days. He was born in Victor, January 13, 1863, the eldest of six sons of Franklin and Jeanette Wilder Rowley.

He was educated in the Victor school, the Genesee Wesleyan Seminary in Lima, and the Cleveland Medical College, Ohio. He was active in community life, having served as the town health officer, and a member of the Board of Education and was a member of the Presbyterian church. He was also a member of the N Y State Medical Society and the Modern Woodmen of America.

He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Ross Gunn, one grandson, Ross Gunn Jr., both of Washington, DC, two brothers, Clark Brace Rowley and George Daniel Rowley, both of Rochester. Funeral services were held at the home on Sunday with Rev. John V. Mills, officiating, assisted by Frank W. Hill, of Rochester, a former pastor. Interment was in Boughton Hill Cemetery.

TEN YEARS AGO - ROWLEY

Charles Andrew Rowley, M.D., a successful practitioner of medicine in Victor, passed away at the General Hospital in Rochester, September 27th. His body was interred 1929 Victor, New York, Boughton Hill Cemetery. He married Stella S. Power Victor, New York, January 06, 1897. Stella was born Farmington, New York July 13, 1866. Stella was the daughter of M. H. Sibley Power and Alida M. Shaw. Stella died April 10, 1924 Victor, New York, at 57 years of age.

ROWLEY - Mrs. Stella Power Rowley, daughter of Mark Sibley and Alida Power, and beloved wife of Dr. Charles A. Rowley, died on Thursday morning, April 10th, after a long illness. Deeply devoted to her family and home, Mrs. Rowley was also an enthusiastic and helpful member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Caroline Gallup Missionary Society, and Unity Club. Her associates in those organizations and in the general life of the community mourn with the bereaved family and share deeply in their recognition of the great loss sustained.

Mrs. Rowley is survived by her father and husband, a daughter, Mrs. Ross Gunn of New Haven, Conn., and a sister, Mrs. A. B. Parmele of Canandaigua. Funeral services will be held at the home on Sunday afternoon, Rev. Frank W. Hill, pastor of the Presbyterian church, officiating. Interment will be made in Boughton Hill Cemetery.

Gladys J.¹¹ Rowley was born 1899. She married Ross Gunn.

VICTOR HERALD March 30, 1917

Misses Elizabeth V. Hill and Gladys J. Rowley spent Wednesday afternoon at Mechanics Institute in Rochester and on Wednesday night Miss Elizabeth was the guest of Miss Isabel Richardson, and Miss Gladys the guest of Miss Bertha Bowerman, both students in Mechanics.

Miss Gladys J. Rowley, who had planned to spend this vacation with a school friend near Oberlin, gave her parents Dr. and Mrs. C. A. Rowley, a surprise by her unexpected arrival at midnight Saturday. She was compelled to give up the contemplated visit because of illness, being advised instead to leave immediately for home. By so doing she will have a few days more vacation.

Miss Rowley suffered from one of the prevailing bronchial colds, which is yielding to treatment, and she is beginning to get out again.

Patrick² Ryan was born in Connacht, Ireland 1820. Patrick died April 20, 1891 Canandaigua, New York, at 70 years of age.

RYAN - At Canandaigua, April 20, 1891, Patrick Ryan of East Bloomfield, aged about 68.

He married Margaret McGreal in Liverpool, England. Margaret was born 1824. Margaret died November 15, 1910 Victor, New York, at 86 years of age.

Mrs. Margaret Ryan of this town, occurred at the family home South of the village Friday afternoon. She had been ill for several weeks but her condition was not considered serious until the past week when her illness developed into pneumonia which was the cause of her death. Mrs. Ryan was 86 years of age and had spent the greater part of her life in this town.

She leaves to mourn her loss, three sons, Thomas, James, and William, all of this town, and four daughters, Mrs. Henry Dempsey, Rochester, Mrs. Thomas Henehan, Mrs. Henry Meagher and Miss Ella, of this town. Funeral Monday morning at St. Patrick's.

Her body was interred 1910 Victor, New York, St. Patrick's Cemetery.

Patrick Ryan met with a serious accident on Tuesday. While drawing lumber he was thrown to the ground by the jolting of the wagon, and fell in such a position that the wheel passed over him in such a way as to break his jaw. This injury is a very serious one for a man at his years.

Patrick Ryan and Margaret McGreal had the following children:

James Ryan was born Little Falls, New York 1854. James died December 01, 1914 Victor, New York, at 60 years of age.

James Ryan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Ryan, died at the home of his parents on Brace Street, Tuesday morning, aged 60 years. Mr. Ryan was born at Little Falls, NY, and came to Victor with his parents in 1867. When a young man he went to Kansas, where he worked for several years as an engineer. Wile thus employed he suffered injuries from which he never fully recovered and since that time he had been a semi invalid. He was, however, in his usual health until within a few days of his death, when he was stricken with paralysis.

Those who survive are the parents, three sisters, Mrs. Thomas Henehan of Victor, Mrs. Henry Dempsey of Rochester, and Miss Helen Ryan of East Bloomfield, and two brothers, Thomas Ryan of Victor, and William Ryan of East Bloomfield. Funeral services were held at St. Patrick's church in this village, Thursday morning, the Pastor, Rev. J. J. Donnelly officiating. Interment was made in St. Patrick's Cemetery on High Street.

ONTARIO COUNTY JOURNAL December 4, 1914

VICTOR - James Ryan, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Ryan, died at the family home on Tuesday. On Sunday he suffered a paralytic stroke from which he never rallied. He was born in Ireland 68 years ago, and came with his parents to this country when a youth. Much of his life was spent in the west, and he returned to his home about ten years ago.

He leaves four sisters, Mrs. Sara Meagher, of East Bloomfield, Mrs. Mary Henehan, Victor, Mrs. Anna Dempsey, Rochester, and Miss Ella Ryan, who resides at home, and two brothers, William Ryan of East Bloomfield, and Thomas Ryan of Victor, besides several nieces and nephews. The funeral services were held on Thursday, Rev. Father Donnelly of Victor officiated.

Sarah Ryan was born in Herkimer County, New York 1860. Sarah died December 26, 1932 East Bloomfield, New York, at 72 years of age.

EAST BLOOMFIELD MEAGHER

Mrs. Sarah Ryan Meagher, wife of Henry Meagher, aged 72 years, died Monday evening, at her home in the Northeastern part of the town. Besides her husband she leaves no near relatives, except nieces and nephews. The funeral was held Thursday morning at St. Bridget's Church, Rev. George W. Doud, pastor of the church officiating. Interment was made in the Catholic Cemetery.

Ella Ryan was born in Little Falls, Herkimer Co., New York 1861. Ella died April 23, 1925 Victor, New York, at 63 years of age.

The death of Miss Ella Ryan occurred at her home on Covil Street Thursday morning April 23 after an illness of several months. Miss Ryan is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Henry Meagher of East Bloomfield, Mrs. Thomas Henehan and Mrs. Anna Dempsey, two brothers, Thomas and William Ryan of Victor, and by several nieces and nephews. A Solemn Mass of Requiem was celebrated at St. Pat's Church by Pastor Rev. J. W. E. Kelly. Burial made in the family plot in St. Pat's Cemetery on High St.

William² Ryan was born in County Mayo, Ireland 1824. William died October 15, 1908 Victor, New York, at 84 years of age.

William Ryan Sr. one of the oldest residents of the town, and a man loved and respected for many sterling traits of character, died from the infirmities of old age at his home, two and a half miles South East of this village, Thursday morning.

Mr. Ryan was 85 years old and was born in County Mayo, Ireland. He came to the US in 1850, first settling in Little Falls. 38 years ago he moved to this town. He followed the occupation of farming at which he was successful being an indefatigable worker and a good manager. Six children survive him, 3 sons, 3 daus, Mrs. Ryan died about four years ago.

The children are, Mrs. Mary Coniff, Rochester, the Misses Catherine and Anna Ryan who reside at the home, John of Geneva, William of Farmington, Edward of Victor. Interment at St. Patrick's Cemetery. His body was interred 1908 Victor, New York, St. Patrick's Cemetery.

Michael T.³ Ryan was born Ireland 1847. Michael died October 22, 1907 Hopewell, New York, at 60 years of age.

LIFE WAS CRUSHED OUT MICHAEL RYAN CAUGHT IN CORN HARVESTER, MEETS HORRIBLE DEATH

A terrible death was that of Michael Ryan, a well known Chapinville farmer, who formerly resided in Victor, whose life was crushed out in the machinery of a corn harvester, Tuesday. Mr. Ryan was taking the harvester to his home from the farm of Daniel O'Brien near Shortsville, and driving a team of his own horses. Just how he became entangled in the machine, will probably never be known. Neighbors within a half mile of his home noticed the team coming along the road apparently without a driver, and upon investigation found that Mr. Ryan's body was caught in the machine and was being carried along as the horses quietly made their way home.

Mr. Ryan was quite dead when found, his chest and abdomen being crushed in and he was otherwise terribly injured. No one saw him fall from the machine, and no one knew that an accident had occurred until the driverless team came along the road. It was about 4 o'clock in the afternoon when the team was found. Mr. Ryan had many relatives and friends in Victor, and many expressions of sympathy at his death with the bereaved family are heard.

The deceased was about sixty two years of age. He is survived by his wife and five children, James P. Ryan of Hopewell, Edward Ryan of Canandaigua, The Misses Mary and Zetta Ryan, of Chapinville, and Mrs. John Dyer of Rochester. Also two brothers, John of Mertensia, and Patrick of Farmington, and one sister, Mrs. Patrick Carney, of Chapinville.

Funeral services were held at the home and St. Mary's Church in Canandaigua, Thursday AM, and interment made in St. Patrick's Cemetery, this village, Thursday PM.

He married Margaret Hanley. Margaret was born Ireland 1845. Margaret was the daughter of Edward Hanley and Mary McGriff. Margaret died December 20, 1920 Canandaigua, New York, at 75 years of age.

RYAN - The death of Mrs. Margaret Hanley Ryan, aged 75 years, occurred at her home on Phoenix Street on Monday, following a long illness. There survive three daughters, and two sons, Miss Mary E. Ryan, Canandaigua, Mrs. John Dyer, Rochester, Mrs. John Guinan, Mertensia, P. J. Ryan, Hopewell, and Edward M. Ryan, of Canandaigua, also one sister, Mrs. Mary Joyce of Canandaigua. The funeral services were held at St. Mary's Church yesterday. Interment was in Victor.

Sarah Zetta Ryan was born 1889. Sarah died June 20, 1938 Lima, New York, at 48 years of age.

OBITUARY - GUINAN

Mrs. Zetta Ryan Guinan, 49, of Honeoye Falls, formerly of Canandaigua, died before medical aid could be summoned, Monday afternoon, after her car collided with a tractor in the Lima Honeoye Falls Road. Mrs. Guinan is believed to have suffered a heart attack just before the collision.

Mrs. Guinan is a sister of Miss Mary Ryan, and Edward M. Ryan of this city. She was a former employee of the Lisk Company office here. Her daughter, Miss Anne Guinan has been elevator operator in Memorial Hospital and studying chemistry at Canandaigua Academy.

Thomas F.³ Ryan was born in Little Falls, Herkimer, New York June 09, 1854. Thomas died January 23, 1929 Victor, New York, at 74 years of age.

RYAN - Thomas Ryan, 74 years old, died at his home here, Wednesday. He is survived by his wife, Mary Mulheron, by six children, William, Frank, Leo, Howard, Mrs. Isabelle Mahoney and Helen Ryan, all of Victor, by two grandchildren, Eileen Mahoney and Bernard Ryan, and a sister, Mrs. Henry Meagher of East Bloomfield.

Funeral services were held this Friday morning, at St. Patrick's church. Burial was made in St. Patrick's cemetery. His body was interred 1929 Victor, New York, St. Patrick's Cemetery.

He married Mary E. Mulheron Victor, New York, June 10, 1886. Mary was born Mendon, New York January 02, 1862. Mary was the daughter of Patrick Mulheron and Catherine Holehan . Mary died November 02, 1940 Victor, New York, at 78 years of age.

RYAN - Mrs. Mary Mulheron Ryan entered into rest at her home Southwest of Victor, about 10 Saturday morning, November 2, 1940 after a short illness. She was born in Mendon, January 2, 1862. She is survived by four sons, William, Frank, and Leo of Victor, and Howard Ryan of Rochester, two daughters, Mrs. John Mahoney of Victor, and Mrs. Leo Crowley of Macedon, a sister, Mrs. Katherine Keefe of Victor, two brothers, Frank Mulheron of Rochester, and James Mulheron of Victor, and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services took place Tuesday morning from the home and St. Patrick's church, and interment at St. Patrick's cemetery.
