RYAN

Mary Isabelle Ryan was born May 26, 1891. Mary died January 17, 1973 at 81 years of age. She married John Mahoney Victor, New York, April 27, 1921.

WEDDING BELLS Mahoney - Ryan

A very pretty wedding took place on Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock in St. Patrick's Church when Miss Mary Isabel Ryan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Ryan, was united in marriage to John Francis Mahoney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Mahoney.

The nuptial mass was celebrated by Rev. J. W. E. Kelly, rector of St. Patrick's. The bride wore a pretty tailored suit of taupe color and hat to match, and carried white roses. She was attended by her sister, Miss Helen C. Ryan, who wore a blue suit and a georgette hat to match, and carried pink sweet peas. W. Edward Mahoney, brother of the groom, was best man.

Frank Ryan, brother of the bride, and Thomas Barry, cousin of the groom, acted as ushers. The wedding march was played by Miss Anna Ryan and Edward Ryan sang O Promise Me, and Ave Maria. After the ceremony a wedding breakfast was served to 125 relatives of the immediate families at the home of the bride's parents, Mrs. Fred Higinbotham being the caterer.

Mr. and Mrs. Mahoney left early in the afternoon for an eastern trip to Albany, Washington and New York City. Upon their return they will reside in Victor. The groom has a responsible position with G. W. Haxton and Son.

Frank Augustus Ryan was born April 29, 1893. Frank died February 29, 1964 at 70 years of age. He married Honora Esther McCarthy Victor, New York, May 17, 1922.

WEDDING BELLS Ryan - McCarthy

Miss Honora Esther McCarthy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James McCarthy of East Street, and Frank Augustus Ryan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Ryan, were united in marriage on Wednesday, May 17th, at St. Patrick's Church. The ceremony took place at 7 30 a. m. with the nuptial mass, Rev. J. W. E. Kelly, pastor of the church, officiating.

The wedding march was played by Miss Anna Ryan and Edward J. Ryan sang O Promise Me, and Ave Maria. The attendants were Miss Genevieve McCarthy, sister of the bride, and Howard Ryan, brother of the groom. The ushers were Arthur McCarthy, brother of the bride, and Leo Ryan, brother of the groom. The bride wore a suit of dark blue twill cord with a picture hat of gray hemp and a corsage bouquet of bride's roses. The bridesmaid wore a suit of old rose tweed with a hat of sand colored satin and a corsage bouquet of pink sweet peas. A wedding breakfast was served to the bridal party at the home of the bride's parents. After a wedding trip to New York and Atlantic City, Mr. and Mrs. Ryan will make their home in Victor, where Mr. Ryan is engaged in the produce business with George W. Haxton and Son.

Mrs. Ryan is manager of the local Postal Telegraph office. Pre nuptial events were a shower party given at the town hall on Thursday evening of last week by the Misses Sarah McMahon, Esther Dailey and Margaret Barry. Supper was served at 8 o'clock to 38 guests. On Friday evening the Misses Elizabeth McMahon and Stella Lincoln gave a variety shower at the home of Miss McMahon. The guest of honor received many beautiful and appropriate gifts.

John Howard Ryan was born December 02, 1901. John died 1985 at 83 years of age. His body was interred 1985 Victor, New York, St. Patrick's Cemetery. He married Gladys M. Turner Victor, New York, November 25, 1929.

RYAN - TURNER

Miss Gladys Turner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Turner, and Howard Ryan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Ryan, were united in marriage at St. Patrick's Church in this village at eight o'clock, Monday morning, November 25th, Rev. J. W. E. Kelley officiating.

The bride was gowned in brown chiffon with hat to match and carried a bouquet of bronze chrysanthemums. Her sister, Miss Crystal Turner, who acted as bridesmaid, wore a green chiffon with hat to match and carried pink chrysanthemums.

A wedding breakfast was served to the members of the two families at the Green Lantern Inn in Fairport. Mr. and Mrs. Ryan left for a trip to Detroit, and upon their return they will live in Rochester.

William A.³ Ryan was born in Herkimer, New York 1863. Date taken from his grave marker. William died August 27, 1925 Victor, New York, at 62 years of age.

William Ryan aged about 70 years was found dead in the house on the old Ryan farm on Brace Street early this Friday morning. Mr. Ryan, who made his home with his sisters, Mrs. Anna Dempsey and Mrs. Henry Meagher, on Covil Street in this village, went to the farm yesterday to help out with the work. Last evening he complained of not feeling well and decided to remain at the farm instead of driving home. Death occurred during the night and was caused by heart trouble.

Mr. Ryan leaves two children, Charles and Clara of Rochester, a brother, Thomas of Victor, and three sisters, Mrs. Thomas Henehan, Mrs. Dempsey, and Mrs. Meagher, all of this village. Funeral services held at St. Pat's on Monday morning. Interment will be made in St. Patrick's Cemetery on High Street. His body was interred 1925 Victor, New York, St. Patrick's Cemetery

William³ Ryan was born New York April 1861. William died February 06, 1922 Canandaigua, New York, at 60 years of age.

RYAN - William Ryan of Shortsville, aged 60 years, died at Memorial Hospital in Canandaigua on Monday morning, February 6th. He had been ill for some time and had been at the hospital for about a month.

The surviving relatives are his wife, three sons, and three daughters, Louis and Emmett Ryan and Miss Cecelia Ryan of Shortsville, Augustus Ryan of Canandaigua, and Miss Gertrude Ryan of Rochester, also three sisters and a brother, Mrs. Mary Coniff of Rochester, Misses Anna and Kate Ryan and Edward J. Ryan of Victor.

Funeral services were held at St. Patrick's church in Victor, Thursday morning. His body was interred 1922 Victor, New York, St. Patrick's Cemetery.

He married Theresa Mulheron Victor, New York, February 08, 1888. Vital Records fiche number 68M at the Rochester Rundel Library. Theresa was born Victor, New York November 1868. Theresa was the daughter of Patrick Mulheron and Catherine Holehan . Theresa died December 12, 1935 Farmington, New York, at 67 years of age.

RYAN - Mrs. Theresa Mulheron Ryan, of Farmington, entered into rest Thursday, December 12, 1935. She is survived by two daughters, and three sons, Mrs. P. McCormick of Rochester, Mrs. W. J. Overhiser of Watkins Glen, William A. and Louis of Canandaigua, and Emmett of Farmington, two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Mary Ryan and Mrs. David Keefe, and James Mulheron, all of Victor, and Frank Mulheron of Rochester, and six grandchildren.

Funeral will be held from her late home in Farmington, Saturday, December 14, and from St. Patrick's church, Victor, at 9 AM. Interment at St. Patrick's cemetery.

John L.³ Ryan was born Little Falls, New York October 14, 1867. John died March 20, 1917 Canandaigua, New York, at 49 years of age.^[i] [i]. Canandaigua City clerk office record number 37 on Page 112, states he was married, and sold Real Estate. It stated that the informant was Mrs. John L. Ryan.

OBITUARY RYAN

Friends and relatives of John L. Ryan were inexpressibly shocked, Wednesday evening, when news came to them of his death that afternoon at his home in Canandaigua. The circumstances of his death were particularly sad inasmuch as he was alone in his home when the summons of the Grim Reaper came to him.

Mrs. Ryan and a daughter left Canandaigua, Monday afternoon, to come to Victor that Mrs. Ryan might be with her aged mother, Mrs. John Brown, who has long been ill. The older daughter, Edna, remained with her father. On Wednesday morning he did not get up for breakfast but told her that he would wait upon himself in the matter of the meal, later on. He had been in his usual health and did not complain of being ill.

When Mrs. Ryan returned home, Wednesday evening, she found the house locked. She at once sought out Miss Edna, who was to spend the night with a friend, but she had no key. Finally gaining entrance to the house, they were horrified to find that Mr. Ryan had passed out of this life in their absence. He lay in the bed much as they had left him in the morning. John L. Ryan was born and grew to manhood in the town of Victor. He was about 49 years old.

One of his earliest business ventures was the management of the Old Opera House Hotel, which he was conducting when it burned on Easter Sunday, 1898. In October 1898, he entered into partnership with James H. Barry and they purchased the Victor Hotel property. This partnership continued for three and one half years, at the expiration of which Mr. Ryan sold his interest and soon after went into business in Geneva.

Leaving Geneva, he moved to Rochester and from there to Canandaigua. He had lately been successful as a real estate and automobile salesman. Mr. Ryan was an excellent businessman and one who commanded the confidence of his associates. Of quiet demeanor, he nevertheless dearly loved a good joke and many there are who remember with appreciation a bit of his dry humor which came their way.

His friends in his home town were always glad to greet him on the occasions of his visits and will deeply regret his untimely death. Mr Ryan is survived by his wife, and two daughters, the Misses Edna and Stella, three sisters, Mrs. Bernard Coniff of Rochester, and the Misses Catherine and Anna Ryan, who live on the homestead farm, and two brothers, William of Shortsville and Edward of Mertensia.

The funeral services will be held from St. Patrick's church in this village on Saturday, Fathers Reagan and Dacey will assist the pastor, Rev. J. J. Donnelly. Interment will be made in St. Patrick's Cemetery. His body was interred 1917 Victor, New York, St. Patrick's Cemetery.

He married Margaret Brown. Margaret is the daughter of John Brown.

THE VICTOR HERALD September 8, 1899

John Ryan, accompanied by his sister, Kathryn, and Mrs. M. C. Crowley, left on Saturday for Little Falls to attend the funeral of a cousin, Edward Dasey, son of Mayor Dasey, of that city. Mr. Dasey visited this village, some three years ago, remaining here for about six weeks, and is remembered by many of our citizens.

The funeral, which occurred on Sunday, is said to have been the largest ever known in Little Falls and was attended by every secret society and fire company of the city as well as by similar organizations from Utica and Syracuse, attesting the esteem in which the young man was held by all who knew him. Mr. Ryan afterward visited friends in Utica, returning home on Wednesday.

Edward J.³ Ryan was born Victor, New York June 20, 1872. Edward died November 15, 1940 Victor, New York, at 68 years of age.^[ii] [ii]. Canandaigua City clerk office record number 182 on Page 27, states that his wife was Theresa Donnelly, he owned his own farm, and he is to be buried in St. Patrick's Cem. in Victor, NY. The informant for the record was his wife of Victor RFD. He died at Memorial Hospital.

Edward J. Ryan of Mertensia died November 15, 1940. His wife was Theresa Donnelly, daughter was Mary Ryan, of Victor, two sons, John Ryan of Victor, Edward Ryan, Canandaigua. Two sisters, Mrs. Mary Conniff and Miss Anna Ryan, both of Rochester.

WELL KNOWN SINGER DIES IN HOSPITAL AFTER BRIEF ILLNESS

Edward J. Ryan of Mertensia, in the Town of Farmington, died in the F. F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua, Friday, November 15, 1940, after a two week illness. He was born in Mertensia in the old Ryan Homestead, 68 years ago, and in recent years had lived just across the road from his birthplace. Endowed with an exceptionally fine tenor voice, Mr. Ryan had given great pleasure to many audiences in this area. When he was a boy vocal teachers discovered that he had a natural singing voice.

The late Justice Robert F. Thompson, director for several years of the "Singers", a widely known musical organization, said of Mr. Ryan that had he had the opportunity for voice culture he would undoubtedly have ranked as one of the great tenors of his day.

Frequently called upon to sing in churches and at the social functions in Rochester and other cities as well as in the towns of this section, Mr. Ryan used his gift freely for the pleasure and benefit of his fellowman, and until the past few months continued to take part in public programs. The announcement that Ed Ryan would sing always drew a large audience. He will be missed by a large circle of friends and acquaintances.

The surviving relatives are his widow, Theresa Donnelly Ryan of Victor, one daughter, Miss Mary Ryan of Victor, two sons, John Ryan of Victor, and Edward Ryan of Canandaigua, two sisters, Mrs. Mary Coniff and Miss Anna Ryan, both of Rochester, and one granddaughter.

Funeral services were conducted from his late home and from St. Patrick's church in Victor, Monday morning. Interment was made in St. Patrick's Cemetery. His body was interred 1940 Victor, New York, St. Patrick's Cemetery.

Thomas Leo⁴ Ryan was born October 17, 1897. Thomas died February 29, 1960 at 62 years of age. His body was interred 1960 Victor, New York, St. Patrick's Cemetery. He married Margaret Lucille Erskine Victor, New York, November 19, 1930.

WEDDING BELLS RYAN - ERSKINE

The marriage of Miss Margaret Lucille Erskine, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Erskine of Victor, and Thomas Leo Ryan, son of Mrs. Mary Ryan, also of Victor, took place, Wednesday, November 19th, at 8 o'clock in St. Patrick's Church in Victor. Rev. J. W. E. Kelley performed the ceremony.

The attendants were Miss Helen Ryan and James Erskine. Mr. and Mrs. Ryan left on a motor trip, after which they will reside at Victor. Prenuptial events were a linen shower given by Mrs. Frank DeVelder and Mrs. Arthur Erskine, a kitchen shower given by Mrs. Edgar Lyons and a variety shower given by Mrs. Howard Ryan.

William Augustus⁴ Ryan was born Victor, New York February 05, 1889. He married Mildred Ann Tiffany Canandaigua, New York, February 06, 1918.^[iii] Took place at St. Mary's Church on Wednesday afternoon, performed by Rev. James T. Dougherty. [iii]. Record number 3965. Canandaigua City clerk office record number 316.

Wedding notice was as follows, The marriage of William Agustus Ryan of Canandaigua, and Miss Mildred Ann Tiffany, daughter of Mrs. Ina E. Tiffany, Beeman Street, took place at St. Mary's church on Wednesday afternoon. Rev. James T. Dougherty performed the ceremony. The groom's attendant was his brother, Emmett Ryan of Victor.

Mr. and Mrs. Ryan left during the afternoon for a short Western trip. They will reside in Canandaigua. The record on microfilm at the Hopewell Archives, number 3965, shows his age to be 28 years, born Victor, NY. Her age was listed at 24 years, born Canandaigua. Her parents shown were Wilbur Tiffany and Ina Briggs. His parents were William Ryan and Theresa Mulheron. Witnesses were Mae Finn and Emmett Ryan
