Predeceased by his wife, Grace and two grandchildren. Survived by daughter, Burniece Nathan Herendeen, two sons, Harry Tom Evelyn, and James Edgar Sharon Sadler, two sisters, Helen Ernst, Ruth Ernest Henehan, brother Clifford Joan Sadler, 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was Past Chief of the Mendon Fire Department with over 65 years of service. Miller's Corners Cemetery, Ionia, NY. His body was interred November 2001 Ionia, New York, Miller's Corner Cemetery.

He married Grace Bennett October 31, 1936. Grace is the daughter of Raymond Bennett. Grace became the mother of Harry Tom Sadler April 09, 1937.

At 21 years of age Henry became the father of Harry Tom Sadler April 09, 1937.

VICTOR NEWS ITEMS - October 3, John Flint Sadler died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Eli Gourlay, at Farmington on Wednesday morning, September 25. He was born in the town of Phelps September 28, 1845, and lived there until 1876, when he went to Farmington where he had since resided. In 1873 Mr. Sadler was united in marriage with Miss Diantha Macumber, who died on November 20, 1901. He was a member of the Farmington Grange and held the office of worthy master for a term of years.

Mr. Sadler is survived by three grandchildren, Lucile, Stewart, and Norman Gourlay, all Farmington, one brother, A. A. Sadler, a nephew, Frank Fish of Palmyra, and a niece, Mrs. W. A. Stevenson of Macedon. The funeral was held from the home of Mrs. Gourlay and burial made at Brookside Cemetery, Shortsville. His body was interred 1918 Shortsville, New York, Brookside Cemetery.

John Flint Sadler and Diantha Macumber had the following child:

Minnie L.³ Sadler was born New York. She married Eli M. Gourlay Farmington, New York, February 08, 1899.

Eli was born Glens Falls, New York 1868. Eli was the son of Norman Gourlay. Eli died March 16, 1946 Farmington, New York, at 77 years of age.

Jacob Peter¹ Sanders was born 1821. Jacob died June 01, 1904 South Bristol, New York, at 82 years of age.

DIED - SANDERS - At South Bristol, June 1, 1904, Jacob Sanders, aged 82 years. His body was interred 1904 South Bristol, New York, Coye Cemetery.

He married Mary Ann Barnes Thornell in Paterson, New Jersey, May 17, 1850. Mary was born in Pompton, Posaic Co., New Jersey August 01, 1829. Mary was the daughter of William Thornell and Elizabeth Barnes. Mary died July 14, 1923 Bristol, New York, at 93 years of age.

SANDERS - Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Ann Thornell Sanders aged 93 years, the oldest resident of S. Bristol, were held at 3 o'clock Tuesday PM from her home in Bristol Springs. Rev. W. T. H. Bayford, pastor of the Naples M. E. church officiated. Burial was in Coye Cemetery. Mrs. Sanders died Saturday night.

She was the daughter of William and Elizabeth Barnes Thornell, pioneer settlers of New Jersey, and was born in Pompton, Posaic Co. New Jersey, on August 1, 1829. She married Mr. Jacob P. Sanders May 17, 1850 in Patterson, New Jersey. Six years later they made their home on a farm in Academy residing there until 1877 when they purchased the farm in Bristol Springs where she died. Mr. Sanders died June 1, 1904.

She is survived by four sons, Peter J. Sanders of Bristol Springs, with whom she resided, Edson Sanders of Rushville, and Jacob J. Sanders of Canandaigua, two daughters, Mrs. Anna E. Alford of Bristol Springs, and Mrs. J. H. Tuttle of Canandaigua, 10 grandchildren, 21 gr grandchildren.

Peter J. Sanders was born 1851. Peter died January 24, 1925 Bristol Springs, New York, at 73 years of age.

DEATH - Sanders - at Bristol Springs January 24, 1925, Peter J. Sanders aged 73 years. He had been in failing health for over a year. His body was interred 1925 Bristol, New York, Coye Cemetery.

Jacob J.² Sanders was born Pompton, New Jersey June 06, 1855. Jacob died January 17, 1945 Rochester, New York, at 89 years of age.

SANDERS - Funeral services for Jacob J. Sanders, 89, who died, January 17, 1945, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Gordon W. Leaky, in Rochester, were conducted Friday afternoon from the Wheeler funeral home, the Rev. Paul H. Huyett, East Bloomfield Methodist Church pastor, officiating. Interment will be made in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canandaigua.

Mr. Sanders had lived with his daughter for three years and had been confined to his bed for several months. Born June 6, 1855, in Pompton, NJ, he was the son of Jacob J. and Mary Ann Thornell Sanders. When a small child he went with his parents to Naples and lived there until he moved to East Bloomfield, 36 years ago. He was well known in this locality as a carpenter.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Ray Hinds of Holcomb, Mrs. Rexford Inglis of Shortsville, and Mrs. Leaky, eight grandchildren and five greats, two sisters, Mrs. Harrison Tuttle of Canandaigua, and Mrs. Edgar Alford of Bristol Springs, and one brother, Daniel Sanders of Bristol Springs. His body was interred 1945 Canandaigua, New York, Woodlawn Cemetery.

He married Sarah Jane Jopson Bristol, New York, December 24, 1887.

December 24, 1887, at the home of the bride by the Rev. Geo R. Searles, Jacob J. Sanders, of South Bristol, to Sarah J. Jopson, of Bristol.

Sarah was born in Steuben Co., New York February 26, 1861.^[i] Sarah was the daughter of Luke Jopson and Mary Marie Amos. Sarah died December 07, 1903 Canandaigua, New York, at 42 years of age. [i]. Place of birth taken from 1875 Canandaigua Census. However her death record shows Bristol, New York as birthplace.

SANDERS - Mrs. Sarah Sanders, wife of J. J. Sanders, died on Monday at her residence on Davidson Avenue after many weeks of suffering from a cancerous trouble, aged 40 years. Mr. and Mrs. Sanders had resided here only three months, having come here from South Bristol. The deceased leaves three children, the oldest of whom is only 12 years old. Tuesday funeral, Rev. Dr. J. Wallace Webb officiating. Interment at Woodlawn.

Fannie Mae³ Sanders was born Naples, New York December 16, 1892. Fannie died March 17, 1988 Canandaigua, New York, at 95 years of age. Her body was interred 1988 East Bloomfield, New York, E. Bloomfield Cemetery. She married Robert Ray Hinds East Bloomfield, New York, December 21, 1910. Minister George S. Spencer of E. Bloomfield in the presence of Flora A Spencer and Clara B. Brown. Her mother's name appears as Jobson on the license for marriage.

SANDERS - HIND December 21, 1910

The marriage of Miss Frances Sanders and Robert R. Hind was solemnized at the Methodist parsonage Wednesday evening, December 21st. The ceremony was performed by Rev. George S. Spencer.

Robert was born Gaylord, Michigan January 23, 1888. Robert was the son of Robert R. Hinds and Margaret Alvina Coultes. Robert died April 24, 1945 Holcomb, New York, at 57 years of age.

HINDS - Ray Hinds, 57, died suddenly Tuesday morning, April 24, 145, at his home on Maple Street in Holcomb, New York, of a cerebral Hemorrhage. A contractor and carpenter, Mr. Hinds was born in Gaylord, Michigan, the son of Robert R, and Alvina Hinds, and came to New York State at the age of 17. He has resided at the Maple Street address for thirty years. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, the Methodist Church and the Methodist Brotherhood.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Frances Sanders Hinds, one daughter, Mrs. Elwyn Ingraham of Holcomb, one son, Robert Hinds, serving with the Merchant Marine, one sister, Mrs. Inez Jopson of Lansing, Michigan, two brothers, Earl Hinds of Battle Creek, Michigan, and Leigh Hinds of Detroit, Michigan. Also four grandchildren, Stephany and Bruce Ingraham, Leonard and Joseph Hinds, all of Holcomb.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon, Rev. Paul Huyett officiating. Burial was in East Bloomfield Cemetery.

Mahlon C.² Sanford was born Canandaigua, New York March 1852. Mahlon died January 20, 1925 at 72 years of age.

Mahlon C. Sanford, 72 years old, died at his home several miles south of this city Thursday after a long period of poor health. He had followed farming all his life until ill health forced him to desist from active labor.

He leaves his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Herbert N. Hicks, both of Canandaigua, and a brother, Byron K. Sanford, of Berkley, Cal. Funeral services were held at the home Saturday afternoon at 2 PM with Rev. Stephen S. Pratt, of the Methodist church officiating. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Herbert died February 07, 1951 Canandaigua, New York, at 71 years of age.

HEART ATTACK FATAL TO H. N. HICKS - Well known garage proprietor is stricken.

Herbert N. Hicks, president of West Avenue Garage Inc., former alderman and one of Canandaigua's best know residents, died suddenly Wednesday at his home, 99 Gorham Street. Mr. Hicks was 71. Mr. and Mrs. Hicks returned from Florida last Friday where they had spent the past seven weeks with their son, Irwin S. Hicks and his family at Deland Florida. It was their custom to spend a portion of the winter in the South. Mr. Hicks had suffered from a coronary weakness for the past eight years but this had not seriously affected his activity.

He gave close attention to his large garage business and was interested in a wide circle of Canandaigua activities. He was at his garage Wednesday morning and had returned home for lunch and to shovel snow from his driveway when he was stricken.

Mr. Hicks had spent his entire life in Ontario County. He was born in South Bristol June 14, 1879, the son of Irwin and Ellen Ingalis Hicks. The Hicks family came into South Bristol with the earliest pioneer fringe of settlers. Alonzo Hicks was one of the first supervisors of the town and one of the county's early members of assembly. Mr. Hicks had a varied business career.

As a young man he operated a farm on the Middle Cheshire Rd., residing there for about 15 years. He operated a hay and produce business on Niagara street in the years immediately after World War I. He was a capable salesman and it was inevitable that he would shift his interests to the fast expanding automobile business.

His first association with the automotive trade was as a sales representative for the Frank K. Marks agency which had its headquarters on Phoenix street. The Marks garage sold Ford cars in the era of the Model T. In 1921 the West Avenue Garage firm was organized by Stewart Hubbell, Leon W. VanDeusen and Pierre Bertin.

In 1922 Mr. Hicks began his association with the West Avenue Garage company and this was to continue during the remaining 29 years of his life. Ultimately he became the largest stockholder in the corporation and its president. Associated with him has been his son-in-law, E. Murray Benham, who is vice president and secretary, and Benjamin P. Moore, who is treasurer. The West Avenue firm sold Ford tractors originally but in 1922, the year Mr. Hicks started his association, the company was awarded the passenger car agency also. It has grown steadily with the years and has become one of the best known business establishments.

Mr. Hicks was named aldereman from the citys second ward in July, 1946, by mayor George McG Hayes and the common council. He succeeded Arthur C. Simmons who had moved from the ward. He served until Dec. 1949.

Mr. Hicks was twice married, first to Miss Lillian Sanford, who died in 1927 at Thompson Memorial hospital, and secondly to Elizabeth Phalen whose home had been for many years on Hubbell street and for briefer periods on Davidson and Gibson before Mr. Hicks acquired their Gorham Street residence.

Mr. Hicks was an active member and trustee of the First Methodist church. He was a member of the Canandaigua Kiwanis club, of the garden club, and of the chamber of commerce. Besides Mrs. Hicks, he leaves a daughter, Mrs. Millicent Hicks Benham, 249 South Pearl street, and a son, Irwin S. Hicks, Deland, Florida.

Surviving also are four grandchildren, Irwin M. Hicks, a member of the New York State Police, Mrs. Irene Gladding, Canandaigua, Mrs. Ellen Benham Mallory, and Mrs. Elaine Benham Fredrickson, both of Canandaigua.
