This page will hopefully grow by your volunteering to help others researching in the area that you live, to assist them in finding information of their ancestors.

Sharon  -

Sharon can help with federal census look-ups, she knows how to search various online records efficiently and sometimes she can go to her local LDS and her local Federal center to peruse microfilms.

Sharon has  a couple of Canandaigua Directories that she would be willing to do lookups  for anyone searching for people, addresses, etc, on their relatives.

She has the 1907-1908 Moore's Standard Directory and Reference Book of Canandaigua by S. H. Moore Company, Publisher and the Canandaigua City Directory for the Years Beginning July 15, 1918-19 by J. Chas. Smith, Publisher.

The 1907-8 Directory says "Containing, Besides an Up-to-Date House and Business Directory, Much Local and General Information Invaluable in the Home and Office."  The map is for the Village of Canandaigua.  The pages have business advertisements as well as a Business Directory in the back.  There is also a list of County, Town and Village Officials.  Residence Directory is only a list of people who have jobs or are students.  No wives listed unless a "widow of".  Gives "h" (home) and "res" (resides) listings.

Ron

Ron has resources at his finger tips and has published books on Ontario Co. History and lineages.  He also has contributed much information to this website and others. He is familiar with all the local sources of information and societies, including RAIMS, and many of the town Historical societies or organizations.

Ron has photos of locations, like homes or businesses which the person may want for their research in towns of  Canandaigua, Victor, Manchester, Shortsville, etc.
He can access newspapers right from  his home, such as the  Canandaigua Daily Messenger, 1922 - 1977 with a few War years that may be sparse on specific years or months missing.  Also there is the  Fultonhistory.com  website for all of NY State, which he has learned to peruse efficiently.

He can help with such things as the SSDI, Rochester Marriages, (I know that's Monroe Co. but people from Ontario Co. sometimes married there), Census records including the NY State Censuses [1855 - 1925], which has more information on the head and family members, for the early census reports.

If you too, would like to be listed as a volunteer to help others in their research for this county, contact me  with a quick list of what sources you may have in order to help others.   Please do not expect these volunteers to incur costs for your research.  They are valuable persons, and good friends.
