My McClurg family migrated from Killyleagh Co., Down,
Ireland to the Town of Richmond, Ontario County. McClurg Road is named
after them.
They appear in a number of the Ont. Co census starting
in 1850 though the name was misspelled McClury then. In 1855 Town of
Richmond census they are spelled Mclurg. In 1860 Town of Richmond
census name is spelled McClerg. In the 1865 Town of Richmond census
they finally get it right: McClurg. But in the 1870 Town of Richmond
census the name is spelled McClery. From the combination of first
names there is no doubt that each of these misspellings is the one and
same family, McClurg.
