 H. N. Clark, Druggist.

     This business was established in 1869 by the firm of Clark & Vail which continued until 1873 when Mr. Vail withdrew and the business was continued by Mr. Floyd C. Clark, who conducted the same until 1877 when Mr. H. N. Clark took charge, and has since carried on the same. Mr. Clark makes a specialty of choice confectionery, perfumery, toilet and fancy articles, dealing in drugs and medicines, and has built up a fine trade; residents of Cornwall and summer boarders will find Mr. Clark ready to supply them with everything in his line, in a gentlemanly manner and at reasonable rates, he has a fine soda fountain, from which he is prepared to furnish delicious cool beverage during the heated term, and is also prepared to furnish gentlemen with choice brands of cigars.  He is located in the Library building, Cornwall on Hudson.

 Chas. E. Hyde, Anemometer & Anemoscope.

     An illustration of the above mentioned instrument will he found in this work, it is the invention of Mr. Chas. E. Hyde of Syracuse, N. Y. and is for measuring and recording the force and velocity of the wind and is superior in many respects to anything of the kind ever before offered, the instrument is simple in construction, is not liable easily to get out of order, is self registering, being combined with a clock, perfectly reliable and requires no further care after setting up.  Mr. Hyde is also inventor and patentee of Hyde Elevating Burglar proof clothes dyer, and awning combined which is worthy the attention of every householder, either in town or country, any further information can be obtained by addressing the inventor, care of S.  S. T. Jeffery, American Plaiting Machine.

     The American Plaiting Machine sold by S. T. Jeffery, is one of the simple implements that go so far to lighten woman's work, all kinds of goods can be plaited upon it from the lightest gauze to the heaviest woolen fabrics, without injuring them in the least.  He is also agent for the Excelsior Coal Sifter, an ingenious affair, can be placed in box or barrel and coal sifted, avoiding all dust.  Talbot's Temperance Hotel.

     Many a traveler is annoyed and oftimes disgusted by the scenes he is compelled to witness when stopping at a hotel.  We can inform him where one hotel at least exists where no drunkards are encountered, no noisy brawlers disturb the travelers rest at night, and where the fumes of alcohol are not mingled with the odors from dining room or office.  Talbot's Temperance Hotel is such a house, cor W. Fayett and Clinton Sts., Syracuse, N. Y., and here is as good a hotel as any run upon the whiskey plan in this or any other country.

 Wm. H. Davis, Refrigerators.

     The name of Mr. Davis has been long associated with refrigerators, he manufacturing a cold dry air refrigerator, the same being his invention.  These refrigerators are made of the best material, lined with polished zinc, with galvanized iron bottom and all racks of galvanized iron wire, from the peculiar arrangement of these refrigerators, the contents is always free from dampness, thereby preserving articles longer and in much better condition, the doors being in front makes it self ventilating.  Mr. Davis also gives especial attention to the manufacture of desks for hotels, with advertising card apartments, these desks are made from the best quality of black walnut, put up in the best manner, and for neatness and beauty are superior to any in market.  Wells & Barnes, Rubber Stamp Works.

     This firm manufacture rubber hand stamps of every size and style for the use of bankers, merchants, manufacturers and business men generally, they manufacture a patent self-inking and dating stamp of the most perfect construction and of elegant finish.  Their office and works are located at 65 Salina St., Syracuse, while they have agencies in Chicago, St. Louis, Indianapolis, New Orleans, Boston and New Haven.  Mead & Taft, Contractors and Builders.

     The business was established in 1853 by Mr. Chas. H. Mead, who located at the junction of the Newburgh road with Hudson Street, in Canterbury, and continued the business until when he formed a partnership with Mr. Thomas Taft and under the firm name of Mead & Taft, conducted the business in the same shops until 1868, when they removed to Cornwall Landing.  In 1877, March 29, their entire establishment was consumed by fire, but they rebuilt the same summer. putting up a three story brick building 60 x 116 feet, and they now have one of the most complete and conveniently arranged planing mills and carpenter shops in the country.  Their business, embraces lumber and hardware together with the manufacture of doors, sash, blinds and moulding, and they are among the largest contractors and builders in this part of the State.  They manufacture a portable cottage, which can be put up or taken down at pleasure, is of especial convenience to camping parties.  Plans, prices and descriptions sent free.  They employ from fifty to one hundred and twenty-five men.  Among the hundreds of buildings they have put up we mention the Church of Our Lady, Star of the Sea, at Long Branch, the Palmer House at Nyack, and over eighty cottages and residences at Long Branch and in various parts of the State of New Jersey.  They are at present putting up a summer residence for Mr. Nevaro, at Oceanica, New Jersey. Messrs.  Mead & Taft are among the most enterprising citizens of Orange County, and have won a reputation for reliability, and a standing in community they may justly be proud of.
