DIED.
May 19--At Carpenter's Point, of consumption, Charles Hillerty, aged 46 years.
May--At Cochecton, James O'Reilly, son of Thomas O'Reilly, aged 26 years.
Fatal Railroad Accident.
Yesterday morning a brakeman on the Erie Railway, named Edward Dougherty, while in a state of intoxication attempted to cross the track, near the depot in this village, in front of the yard engine which was in motion, and was struck by the pilot and thrown down, the wheels of the engine passing over the upper portion of the stomach, crushing the spinal column, ribs, and left arm, killing him instantly. He was picked up and taken to the depot building; an inquest was held by Coroner Penny, and the jury rendered a verdict that the "said Edward Dougherty came to his death by being ran over by engine 253 while attempting to cross the track in an intoxicated condition." He was aged about 40 years and resided in this village.
