William Henry Benjamin
Middletown Daily Press, Monday, November 4, 1889

William Henry Benjamin, a mason died Saturday evening at his residence on Grant street.  The cause of death was Bright's disease, which had troubled him for some time.  He was able to be around, however, until two weeks ago.  The deceased had lived here a number of years, and for a long time was employed by Robert A. Malone.  Of late he worked for Robert Lemon.  He was a member of the Bricklayer's Union.  His age was 57 years.
He was a brave soldier in the late war, going out with Co. G. of the 124th Regiment, “Orange Blossoms,” which was raised at Washingtonville.  He was in the battles of Chancellorsville and Gettysburgh, when he was promoted from First Sergeant to First Lieutenant.  In the engagement before Petersburgh, June 18th to 22d.  Lieutenant Benjamin was wounded.  He was afterwards with Co. E. of the same regiment.
He is survived by his widow.  Although not a member of Gen. Lyon Post. G.A.R., that organization by request will take charge of the dead soldier's burial.  The notice appears elsewhere.
