Town of Warwick
List of Persons living in Warwick
THE Village is situated in the town of Warwick, in the valley of the Wallkill on Warwick Creek is the terminus of the Warwick Railroad, being about seventy miles from New York city. Warwick is situated in one of the finest agricultural regions of the county. The village was incorporated under special act in 1867, and is a thoroughly enterprising town, possesssing numerous fine residences several brick blocks and business houses, two banks, a fine public school, six churches, and a fine hotel.
The village is supplied with water from a reservoir situated about one mile and a quarter south upon Wawayanda Creek; the reservoir is at an elevation of one hundred and fifty feet above the village, thus distributing the water without the aid of pumps. The water was introduced in the village in 1871, and there is now laid some four miles of pipes. The reservoir is supplied by springs among the Warwick mountains. The works are under the control of a board of Directors composed of three members: the present members are Wm. L. Ogden, Wm. H. Hynard, and John W. Clauson.
The Fire Department consists of one Hose Company numbering sixty men, the height of the reservoir enabling the department to dispense with all engines, as by simply coupling their hose to the hydrants a stream of water can be thrown over the highest spire in the village. The Engine House is located upon Third street, S. S. Van Saun foreman, Norman L. Dill asst. foreman.
