The Will of Coonrad Sly

"Coonrad Sly of the Town of Warwick, County of Orange, State of New York, Blacksmith, living, of sound mind and memory do in the presence of that God whom I worship, make and publish this my last will and bequeath to my beloved wife, Anna Sly, during her widowhood, the use of all my farm and buildings on which I now live (excepting) fifty acres on and across the northerly side of my farm including the house built by my son, Thomas Sly, and after the decrease or intermarriage of my wife with another man, I give and bequeath to my son John Sly all the lands whereof I my dye seized together with the buildings thereon imposing on him to pay to his brothers and sisters the legacies hereafter bequeathed to them. Item - I do give and bequeath to my son, John Sly, 50 acres of land immediately after my death on the north side of my farm as heretofore described. Item - I give and bequeath to my son, Jacob Sly, $300.00. Item - I give and bequeath to my son, Thomas Sly, $355.00. Item - I give and bequeath to my daughter, Catherine Dolson, $250.00. Item - I give and bequeath to my daughter, Dolly Sly, $250.00. Item - I give and bequeath to my daughter, Elizabeth Sly, $250.00 and I do order and direct my son, John Sly, to pay all the above legacies to my several children at and immediately after the death of my wife or her intermarriage with another man. Item - I give and bequeath to my son, John Sly, all my stock of houses and cattle (excepting) 2 cows and all the sheep and hogs immediately after my death on condition he shall at the same time pay to my daughters, Dolly and Elizabeth, at the time or either of them having married and should he, my son John, might or refuse so to do then I order my executor hereafter to be named to fill and dispose of such stock and pay over the proceeds to such daughters not receiving $250.00 each. Item - I give and bequeath to my beloved wife all my household furniture during her natural life at her death to be divided between my three daughters share and share alike and I do order and direct xpenses and the means for that purpose is the debts due me together with my blacksmith tools, farming utensils, and grain of different kinds, and lastly I do nominate and appoint my wife, Anna Sly, and my sons, Jacob Sly and John Sly, together with my friend, James Burt as executors to this my last will and testament revoking all former wills by me made in witness thereof I hereunder fix my hand and seal this the first day of July in the year of our Lord 1812 signed, sealed, Published and declared by the above name Coonrad Sly to be his last will and testament in the presence of us who have hereunto subscribed our names witnesses in the presence of the testator and each other."
